For anyone still attempting this, don't use any usb-c connector for this. For a usb-c to usb a 2.0 cable, you *need* to have a usb-c connector with a 56k resistor. The ones without can be dangerous if used for charging.

Please make sure to put the heat shrink on before soldering the bulkier USB A type connector. It is important to make sure that the heat shrink is as small as you can get it while still being able to fit it around the connector. Alternatively, just use a smaller heat shrink that you can safely slide over the smaller usb c connector. What I like to do is to stack multiple heat shrinks when the thickness differs as much as it does between the USB A connector which is as wide as a 0 AWG cable and the sleeved cable, which usually works out to be around 8 AWG in size in custom cables If you stack around 3 smaller heat shrinks around the cable the final, largest heat shrink will adhere to the rest of the cable tightly, making the connector much more durable. You can put a teeny tiny amount of e-7000 or e-8000 glue as a thin laminate between the surface of the cable and on the outermost one right before you shrink the biggest wrap. That makes it secure beyond reason, which I love :)

Yes it alternates but it has to be in the right position and the right pads. You can't just put them anywhere (for consistency and understanding proper electronic wiring). Black, Green/Yellow, White, Red === Negative (-), Data +, Data --, 5V Exactly in that order. But depending on the USB connector, pcb or whatever you may get the position will vary. In this KIT however it is typically exactly as shown unless the pads have something else written on it which would mean it is not a JUJUCables Official kit.

0:38: Actually, I'm watching this video a bit more for repair... coincidentally of a keyboard, but not a high-end one. I'm actually mildly surprised I ended back up at this channel (which I subscribed to for the keyboard memes) rather than a different one. Basically, my old HHKB Lite2 was dying due to an old cable. Although I upgraded to an HHKB Pro2 before it went completely, eventually it did go completely as I used it on the side, which means I have an extra perfectly usable, although slightly low-end, keyboard, which can't work only because its cable doesn't work. It is a very repairable keyboard, BUT the manufacturer won't sell a replacement cable to me, so I am looking to see how I might be able to repair its weird cable myself. It has USB A on one end, and on the other, a weird 4-pin JST and a loop ground connector. I haven't found any options to buy these online yet, but maybe I might be able to make one myself given the right tools?
