I have been a leather-smith for 28 years. My teacher made me sew EVERYTHING by hand for the first year for multiple reasons. The main one was to strengthen my fingers and develop the callouses to be able to do it without concern. I thought I was going to be crippled after the first couple months. Now, all these years later I can do it without effort. It was a good lesson but I still like having my turn of the century Singer machine. I made a mask my first year too! Folks are still creeped out by it.

Wilson was a rancher who loved his herd as much as he loved his family. One fateful night, while some fencing on the far side of a corral, some pillagers invaded his homestead, stealing all his valuables, disposing of his family and taking out his prized bull, cow and calf. Only being able to salvage a small amount of hide from each of his beloved animals, Wilson stitched together a mask, which he wears as he journeys the earth in search of the marauders who destroyed his life-intent on getting his revenge!

For future projects or if you want to fix something on Wilson there you might want to add some ventilation around the mouth section. Running around in an enclosed mask without sufficient ventilation is going to wind him really quickly. Anyways that little bit of wet forming and shading really elevated the look.

Before you assume his face is symmetrical, give him a center part drawing it from his nose! If you can't get a straight center part, his nose likely isn't in the middle of his face and you'll want to make separate templates for each side. If he wears glasses, and you can't do center parts, you can bypass the center part trick: if plastic frames are cockeyed on him, then his nose isn't in the middle of his face, and on metal frames tou can check to see if the nose pads are centered.

We know that Bubba (LeatherFace) did do a bit of crafting on his masks. Fred Kruger is seen in the beginning of A Nightmare on Elm St. assembling his iconic glove. Also in Twisted Metal for the PS3, Marcus Kane is seen carving his Sweet Tooth madk before he goes of on his un-aliving spree of his family. So yeah, serial deleters and crafting kind of have a bit of overlap.

@@SkillTree In today's "Creepy world" you could also add dreadlocks to the skull, or a skull cap (No pun unintended!) or both. For the use of women, a old fashion bonnet would be an added surprise, one that you would see from the old South with the large sides. (Picture this, a woman dressed in old fashion clothes, with bonnet hiding her face. Then she raises her head so that you could see her face in this leather mask! Not something I would show someone under 8 years old, or someone from the deep South, as us older folk grew up with Grannies wearing ankle length dresses with the bonnet!)

My mom uses pliers to pull stitches through leather when they’re really stubborn, and I have done the same on occasion sewing thick layers. If you should happen to make another, stain it black, ad a few metal studs/spikes, attach some sickly green LEDs in the bottom of the eye holes, then black out the eyes by gluing bits of black mesh (like pantyhose) in the eye holes. Then break out the rest of your black, spiked covered leather gear and boom! You're an early '80s fantasy monster!

There's a couple of easy tricks to check to see if your face is reasonably symmetrical! 1: Center part you hair, from your nose. If your part isn't straight down the middle, you nose is not in the middle of your face. 2: If you wear glasses, you can check your nose pads! If you wear plastic frames and they are always cockeyed, your nose is likely not in the middle of your face. If you have metal frames, you can just look to see if they are centered. I'm focusing on the nose because it is the major factor in comfortably fitting things that go on your face. I know both of these tricks because A) mom gave up on center parts for me as a young child because she could never get them right And B) I need glasses. Guess how we found out my nose isn't in the middle of my face? That being said, how the heck do you make masks when you absolutely cannot go without glasses? I'm heading twords legally blind and I can't get close enough to my eyeballs to wear contacts!

Wilson is the unassuming groundskeeper for a high school. One year the kids do a halloween prank that ruins the baseball diamond and in a mischievous rage, Wilson sews a scary mask together using the scraps of a couple old baseball mitts. Little did Wilson know, he'd mostly used the mitt of a convicted serial killer from when he was a student at that school and planned all his future kills in a notebook that lived in the kid's back pocket right next to the folded mitt. Kida who later used that mitt over the years had a tendency to be violent but nobody ever realised theyd all used the same mitt. So now Wilson is donning a murder mask for a revenge prank that will inevitably go very very wrong.

I think the insanity aspect of a serial killer would be better emphasized if the two sides weren’t symmetrical. That would require making both sides of the masking tape mask, then cutting them up differently while still making sure the pieces conform to the compound curves of your head. It might even save on the scrap. Of course there’s the cheat option, use your life mask as a template and just cover it with the leather scraps you already have, trimming them so they will stitch together a little better. Yeah, I know, everybody doesn’t have a life mask, and that’s why you showed the masking tape step. That’s why I called it the cheat option. 😁 Anyway, this is one of the coolest DIY Halloween ideas I’ve ever seen. Thanks for posting it.

I would personally not rely on mirroring a pattern for masks. I have made many plaster masks, and while that is a little bit different as you can just apply it all to the face, faces are NOT symmetrical, especially the older you get, and some people have extremely crooked faces! My partner's nose and soft pallet are all twisted, if i were to make a mask for him, half a pattern doubled just would not work for him, and even myself, while not visually prominent unlike my partner, my face is not the same shapes on both sides. And the taping technique you used is pretty easy and quick, so i would just do the whole thing as to not have to deal with shaping on the back end and possibly end up ruining hours of work later on ❤

Thats a good point. I think it helped that I was making it out of leather and planned to wet-form it. The wet forming helped me adjust to any inconsistencies between the sides of my face. However, for other methods and materials, it might cause problems to rely on reflecting on it.

Some of the opposing players knew that they stood no chance of winning the championship, but if they could just get rid of the other team's star receiver (Wilson) they could win the upcoming game. So they planned to cut him off on his way home from practice, hoping he'd be injured and wouldn't be able to play. The plan was stupid to begin with, and car accidents are unpredictable... Wilson ended up trapped in his car as it burned. Back country as it was, it took over half an hour for anyone to arrive, and the burned-out car was empty. Devastated at the loss of their star player, Wilson's team could barely focus enough to play let alone win the championship game. Every year, on the same date as the championship, a menacing figure in a leather mask emerges from the woods where Wilson's car veered off the road and hunts down just one of the players responsible for his accident. One of them tries to hide in a barn, barring the door and thinking he's safe. Suddenly, from the darkness between the piles of hay and tractor: "Cute, but you always knew I'd find the hole in your defense..." Dealer's choice if Wilson is undead or not. He could have survived with burns and that's why he wears the mask. Maybe the audience doesn't even know...

Wilson's family lived in a small off grid cabin in the hills of West Virginia. when he was just 17, a band of outlaw bikers came upon the cabin, and started trashing it, looking for anything they could steal, and breaking everything else. when his parents saw them coming, they told him to hide in the root cellar, while his dad defended the cabin. after hours of loud screaming, banging and destruction that shook the floor above his head, he smelled smoke, and began to feel intense heat. Bursting up through the trap door, he found both of his parents mutilated, and the cabin was on fire. he tried to get him mom's broken body out of the fire, and was burned severely over his face, chest and back. He woke, several days later, half in and half out of the creek behind the still smoking shell of the cabin that had been his only home. after building a stone cairn for what he could find of his parents, he found the bodies of 2 of the bikers. He felt a small sense of pride that his dad had done some real damage before the gang took him down. With a grim determination, taking the torn, slashed, and somewhat burned leather vests form the dead bikers he sewn together a mask to cover the hideous burn scars on his face and head. Wilson spent the next 3 years, building his body, and his rage. He grew tall, and strong. He vowed to wreak havoc on the Biker gang that killed his family, and the society that spawned such abominations. they had made him a monster, now he would teach them what a monster could do.
