That was such a fun day! Thanks for hosting that and getting us all together. I really enjoyed seeing everyone enjoy a trail that I know and love so well, and I even discovered a few new things along the way along with all of you. Really enjoyed your exploration back to that little dam. I had no idea it was there and since I can't get back there on my own, I'm glad I could see it through your eyes. Looking forward to future meetups whether on foot or on wheels!

One of the most important things needed to run steam engines is a reliable source of pure clean acid free water. Won't destroy the boilers. I suspect that's what the dam was for. The gate valve probably fed a pipeline to an engine watering facility, or possibly the tank shown earlier. The Pennsylvania Railroad had numerous water companies along it's route for that very purpose. In western PA, The Mountain Water Supply Company was one. Ranging from 12" to 36" pipe, it ran from Indian head PA to 28th st. Pittsburgh. Many parts of it are still in use today having been purchased by water companies.

Nice video, it looked like y'all had a very fun day and very interesting finds. When I saw the part where you are on the metal walkway looking over the spillway in the woods, there was a ball in all those limbs that was piled up and I started laughing to myself and said well, it must be officially abandoned!! Thank you for taking me along! Enjoyed it!

I'm kinda new at KZitem, but I seem to keep finding more of your abandoned rail line videos, which fascinate me. Anyway, I hope my remarks are not redundant. The type of truss bridge was named after the engineer responsible for the truss design. Warren, Howe and Towne were a few of the names used, dating back to the 1800's.

I would confirm that that bridge was part of a road to the quarry. I remember the trucks driving between the quarry and the Giant Portland Cement Plant up the trail about 1/2 mile. My grandmother lived just around the corner.

Cool riding video JP I like these kinds of things and a little exploring along the way I went out for a walk by myself today down to the old pipeline that my dad and I (mostly me) had cleared, there is downed trees and the Japanese knotweed was rather thick, but the trail is still open to an extent, and after seeing this video, I may just take my cell phone and do a video, there is some abandoned railroad structures in the area, even though there is an active line that runs daily through it, and if you are available, maybe you can come up to Susquehanna and I'll show you the places that are still standing,

The boxcar! Love stuff like that. So many questions. But one us could you tell by the type and look of the canned goods how long ago they were there? I’d love to walk out there when it’s much cooler. I’ll walk anywhere when it’s much cooler. 🤣 That bridge. So odd and weird with how it’s just there. I’ll go with you on that theory. The foot bridge. 😱 The things you all find. And it’s amazing how nature just takes over. Was that a beach ball in it? lol Thanks for sharing!

I wander if that old box car was derailed....? As for the brakes, either warm soapy water or Eagle One brake cleaner would cure the squeak. I think he's right about the low bridge, makes a lot of sense. I never seen a bridge that sat that low before.

I am wondering about the cement cores. Is it possible that between the old cement factory and the footbridge that they may have formed a sort of dam or road with them? From major flood damage that I've seen I think that destroyed the old foot bridge dam area and forced all the debris into the area.

I'd say that ramp is for vehicles to access the underside of the railroad bridge for repairs. That bicycle needs new break pads not WD-40! You'd be shocked how many adults ride bikes but never check their breaks, chains, cables, tires, etc, or perform, or have a cycle shop perform, routine maintenance on their bike like they do with their car. Oh and y'all, if you're riding a bike or scooter please, please, wear a helmet and close toed shoes with a heel strap, preferably tennis shoes, especially if you're going to go tromping off into the woods or on rusty, and/or possibly broken, abandoned structures. I've had nails go right through athletic sneakers and almost my foot and have gotten a few tetanus boosters due to being reckless and getting scratched or poked on metal during photography sessions. Tetanus boosters are only good for 5-10 yrs and your original dose quit protecting you likely in your early teens...Oh, and wear sunscreen and drink water. I just hate to see people behaving recklessly. Be careful. Be safe. But of course have fun!

It really sucks that the people that explore “abandon” places feel there is an open door policy, NO there is no open door policy, if it is private property it is private property, even if no one is living there at the time it is still someone’s property, maybe old family home they don’t want to get rid of. Only open door thing is for police when called to a residence, and the door is unlocked they can investigate. So no there is no “open door or open wall” policy, if it is private property and not city property you are trespassing. Look up the laws
