A very fun episode. Now *obviously* if you didn't care about safety this would have been electric power, because that was kind of the main thing about the Ghiza's Wheel was that it 'ground into' enemies. I think with that the effectiveness (and I imagine using an in hub motor like you'd use for an electric bike) would reduce the complexity and failure rate of the device. Still, with what you could feasibly do, it was interesting seeing such a 'device' tested.

So, if you do have to commit mechanical insanity on the battlefield, a buzzsaw is better than a chainsaw?

In game it uses magic to spin. We don't have magic but we do have machine. You can take machine from chainsaw and add it on that. With off/on switch.
@bolbyballinger
2 күн бұрын
Sure, he could. But those blades were coming loose from a hand crank. Best case scenario with a chainsaw they just completely dangle becoming near useless. Worst case scenario they snap off and fly back at the user. And be it hand crank or chainsaw, machines don't like getting suddenly stopped. Which is exactly what would happen in combat.

I don't know what's scariest, if the fact that one could use one of those hub motors to make one of these powered with around one horsepower at least, or that you don't really need to go through all the hustle of building a complicated contraption, because you could just get a grass trimmer with a metal blade... Wait; hmm... There's a model that comes with a six bladed head, guarantee of them being razor sharp... OH MY FREAKING GOD! They also come with straight up buzz saws! When did gardening got so scary! 😅
@Linkin911s

Taking into account that this weapon originates from Bloodborne, i think it makes more sense in the context of the game. Considering that most of the time you have to fight monsters who don’t use weapons, the player probably doesn’t need as much agility as when fighting against humans. So the main goal is to inflict as much devastating damage as possible in the shortest amount of time 🤔

If that was heavy already, adding motor to it would make it pretty much unusable. Blades were kinda loose'ish. Making them more rigidly attached would probably help with the cutting, but they would probably snap easier. Especially with the motor with higher rpm. Honestly i think you rated it too high. I'd go with something like 4-3-2-3. Maybe even lower. Yes it can kinda cut while spinning, but it aint spinning after 1-2 hits. Powering it by hand, while safer and i understand why you did this, it just require a motor for constant spinning. But it'll make everything even more unwieldy and dangerous, and prone to snaping and braking. My personal verdict: Disassemble it now! Are you crazy? Is this thing even legal to build or have at all? I feel if you show this to Shad he'd dissasemble both it and you. My god i don't want to be anywhere near it. XD

Nice video. I think you should keep it together. Hear me out. I know it's expensive, but you're going to have the coolest damn pizza cutter on the block. 😂 On a less ridiculous note, you could perhaps counteract the gyro effect by having another, much smaller but equally heavy flywheel type situation for the pommel. I know, it would have to be enclosed somehow so you don't get clothes, appendages or scenery stuck in it, make another point of failure, making it that much more complex and costly and it would not be true to the in game representations (unless I'm missing something). On the other hand, it could potentially make it a much more feasible implement of dooooooom. Not saying it would be anywhere near a sword in it's simplicity, elegance or ease of use. A pizza cutter of doom is still a pizza cutter of doom, though. Edit: Spelling and grammar derps.

@WilcrezTheWanderer
Күн бұрын
Just to point something out, this is not in any possible way the Whirlygig Saw, because that weapon is (1) a hammer first and foremost, and (2) powered by something other than magic, perhaps merely an incredibly wound spring mechanism that allows it to continue function. Most Bloodborne weapons are purely mechanical, albeit not realistic, but the WGS is 100% a big blunt disc hammer that has twin sawblades on either side of the disc, like a deadly Oreo cookie. But this Ghiza Wheel you've made is really cool!
@Leifflei
Күн бұрын
Like other people suggested some possible upgrades to make this more "functional": - Use a brushcutter/weed eater/weed wacker for the drive chain/axle. This would be relatively light weight and less issues compared to the un-tensioned chain. - For powering it a modified low speed hand drill with grip safety toggle/trigger. - I'd be concerned with the sudden jolt if the blades did catch and the power source was trying to torque through it making it wrench from your control. So there would need to be a freewheel or something to keep this from happening. You could still use the frame and general setup you have for structure with these suggestions.

Making it Bloodborne-style with buzzsaw blades instead of knives could make it safer, at least in the sense it wouldn't be as stabby and prone to flinging broken bits of blade in places in case of failure. A tighter chain or a complete gear system would obviously make it more reliable, and at that point I'd probably add a motor as well.
@shovelchop81bikeralex52
Күн бұрын
Nice idea, a chain tensioner would be a very good idea, stop it falling off all the time, you have an engineering background yet the word sprocket seemed unfamiliar to you, odd; I come from an engineering background too but I'm also a motorcycle mechanic (studied motorcycle engineering along with a Bsc(hons) in product design and of course my Harley Davidson certified mechanics courses) so maybe I'm a bit more sprocket au fait lol! I still think maybe a lower HP or wattage motor like a Dremel would be safe enough with all your gear, although I do share your dislike and distrust of electric grinders but mostly for the godawful noise they make! I have a newish air grinder I hope to try out soon!

essentially just a brushcutter is an interesting point. Other ways to take this idea is to make it longer, and counterweight it a bit. Couch it like a lance. this way you could hold it with one arm, while turning the crank.(if not just attaching gas/electric motor, and backpack fuel/battery..) or, like Brush cutters. counter weight is in the back(motor). and they are carried at the hip, with a STRAP holding the weight/pivot point over the shoulders, freeing both hands to aim.

I thought "it's hand powered, it can't be THAT dangerous, right?, if you used a drill or something maybe" oh no, i was mistaken, once i saw that thing spin oh boy also you probably need a chain tensioner if you want to revisit the build and improve it, it will prevent the chain going loose 🤔

Some kind of better construction combined with a powerful electric motor would make that thing absolutely insane. Though I'm wondering how much a bladed wheel spinning at high speeds might pull against attempts to swing the thing around...would it be kinda like a gyroscope, or something?
@daywither927
Күн бұрын
This looks absolutely horrifying. Though regarding the games design, if the wheel spins on magic then the hooked blades might get stuck but the magic would (probably) push through until either the weapon or the target breaks. And as we know, game weapons resist everything.

Did you consider using a small electric motor of some kind? With that you could put the activator somewhere on the grip/handle that is most convenient, or most comfortable while still allowing you to wield it like a 2 handed staff/sword/spear/spinny thingy.. Lol not a complaint or criticism, legit just curious your thoughts on it. I'm sure it wouldn't be the safest way to go about testing.... I also think from what you built and the results of your tests..... it's quite clear with an electric motor to power the wheel..... it's probably gonna be devastating lol..... So I have been assuming you didn't go with the electric motor simply because it wasn't really required to test the concept and it's also way less safe lol. Both of which are legitimate reasons to go manual over electric for a first run at least.

I would have 1000% powered it with an electric motor and wired in a safety switch that stops the wheel if i let go of it. It would also be able to keep is torque and velocity up during the attack instead of relying entirely on momentum. That would have made it much safer and more effective.
