Ya need longer cones or as you say funnels that go in the trap where ya put the holes with a piece of wire like the traps made from. You have a lot better catch. But with no door that style will have to be cut open everytime ya take the minnows out. I'd use little snaps like ya use on a dog chain instead of zip ties so it's easier to take apart and put together. I trapped minnows for a lot of years and the best bait I found to use that catches the most minnows is plain old white bread. 2 slices is enough for that size trap. If ya don't put the cones in your hole a bigger fish can go in and eat all your minnows. Take a flat piece of the wire ya use and roll it into a cone. One end a little bigger then the hole and the other end the size of whatever size minnows ya wanna catch. Hope this help ya all.

If your doing this for small minnows, you can do for almost free with a 2 liter or apple juice bottle. Cut the top off flip it inside out so there is a funnel. Poke holes and put a rock in it so it sinks. Use bread for bait. Duck tape the top on and just a string or rope to retrieve it.

I put it on the bobby pin because it’s shaped like a hook on both sides put it on the handle the fish were swimming in the water just enough where I had the bucket under the water line and they would nibble on the bait and I pull up the bucket slowly catching the fish live in the bucket. I got some pretty good Size fish doing this.
