4 days to the village fete and I decided that this year I would make some wooden prizes for my stall. A lot of work in a short time. Would it really be worth the extra effort. Would the sun shine and the people come?
I made some wooden cats and dogs for my game "Hinxton Clockwork Express Pet Rescue". The set up is that a clockwork train runs until it stops. People by tickets to each of 6 stations. If the train stops in their station they win that pet.
The train is a Hornby O gauge clockwork train from the 1950s. Still running well. The most difficult part of the exercise was getting the tables level for the track as the event was outside. If the table wasn't level the train had a tendency to always stop on the same uphill section making guessing the station a little too easy.
The animals were made of beech wood painted with acrylics and varnished with gloss and then matt acrylic varnish.
It took 2 hours for people to win the 15 pets. I took a total of £81 for charity. A good afternoon out.
