I have a hack if the price is written in in ball point pen. Take a small piece of sellotape and stick it over the price. Trace the price through the sellotape with a biro. Then gently peel off the sellotape and the original biro price comes away with it. If it isn't all removed, repeat the process. Doesn't work if some heathen has written the price on the front cover though!

Great that the books are still selling well. I always do well with Mah-Jong sets particularly if they are in a nice box or case. Also Backgammon & nice chess sets sell OK in the UK - I tend to leave the cheaper looking battered boxes in the shop. I sold a hardback Jungle Book today for £10. I only paid 25 pence for it so still some profit. It went via GSP & the buyer was charged a further £45 on top to get it to New York!

@@angelpotts4799 I use flat rate, up to 5kg Australia Post mailers and I’m on the highest discount they give small businesses due to the amount I sell. Pricing is approx $7.40ish for a small mailer and the bigger mailers for my bigger bundles are $10-$12.75 mostly. So for example the horror book set I sold for $69, that went in a medium mailer costing $10.16 plus I paid $4 for the books. eBay fees are about 15-18%. :)
@backfromburnout

Obviously the cheaper books make less profit but those books I sell for cheaper I either get for free or in very large hauls where my costs are low (5c-20c a book). They don’t bring huge profits but they bring constant activity to my store and the more items I sell the higher the post discounts I get which really helps! If I’m personally choosing books myself in the thrift stores I’m looking for individual books I can sell for $20+ or bundles as they always bring more profits.

@@davidatdcactradingpl4839 I don't spend ages looking through the racks of clothes as I don't want to sell a lot of it. I tend to look for a print that jumps out at me while it's hanging on the rack and then take a quick look if I like it. I sometimes look at the shorts as they are so easy to flat lay and rarely need an iron.

I now know your store(your secret is safe with me, I won't tell).... I have the bag, ball and a pair of shoes(which I don't fit into now), do you think I would do best to sell it all together or separate the shoes and sell them separately.... they are all in good used condition?

Hi Mel! Fun and interesting video as always. I was wondering how you shipped the board game? Is a padded mailer enough protection for it? Also if a customer wants to order a few items from you and you offer free postage on both, is it possible to combine postage to lessen the price for the buyer? Do you combine postage ?
@backfromburnout
2 жыл бұрын
I posted it in a double padded mailer and I also added some cardboard on the top and bottom. Hopefully it arrive safe and it felt sturdy. It wouldn’t fit into one of the Australia Post large boxes. Yes I certainly combine books if they order multiple. Because I offer “free postage” on my books they can’t ask for a postage discount as theoretically it’s being offered free. This means if I can a sale with multiple books I make much more profit. This is why I try and entice buyers to order multiple books by ticking the multiple discounts offer in my listings. Buy 2 get 10% off. Buy 3 get 15% off. Etc.

I’ve sold a few things on eBay recently & the fees seem quite high? For something I got $25 +$10 postage and only got $30 all together ($5 fee), and I have to wait 2 weeks to get the money is this all normal?
@backfromburnout
2 жыл бұрын
eBay take roughy 15% in fees or more if you promote your items higher. So you do have to work those costs into your expenses. If your selling low end items you need to be selling more volume to make more profits. In the beginning you may have some restrictions on your account where eBay will hold your funds to make sure there isn’t any problems with any orders but normally you will go into daily (Mon-fri) or weekly payments.
