So what it is the common mistakes most Upwork beginners make?
1. Sending longreads.
In most cases, short and sharp answers perform better.
Most job offerings are getting 20+ proposals.
Imagine reading every single one.
I prefer the "Whatsapp group" style of response.
Something like: "Hi! I read the offering, and I
worked on similar projects.
Here is a link to an example of my work.
Let's schedule a call. I have some ideas."
2. Dear Sir/Madam
Get rid of all the "Dear Sir/Madam"
or excessively formal "To Whom It May Concern."
The first thing I do when I am interested
in sending a proposal is check feedback.
High chance of finding
the name of the client there.
Starting the message with the name is not only
the most appropriate way but shows preparation.
If I can't find the name, I am just trying to use the
most appropriate way of greeting.
For example, If the job is described as
"We are looking for someone…."
then I can start with "Hi, team!".
Keep it simple but professional.
3. I don't have relevant experience, but …
Nothing someone says before the word "But"
really counts. The only intention of someone
who posts a job - is to get it done.
If you aren't confident that you can deliver -
Better to bypass the offering.
But if you believe you can handle the task,
just describe your experience and let the client decide.
I am sending hundreds of proposals and never used
The phrase "I don't have relevant experience".
By the way, soon I am going to make an episode
with the statistics and insides from my first 1000
proposals on Upwork.

4. "I did a draft for you."
Some freelancers start doing a job to get an advantage
over their competitors to show drafts.
Even before communicating with the client.
As usual, it has the opposite effect.
It shows how unprofessional you are-
starting the job without a precise understanding of the task.
Also, it emphasizes that you don't move along the lines.
Unpredictable, in other words.
And putting efforts in advance puts the client
in an uncomfortable position.
I have a rule - I am always trying to be a
reliable and comfortable partner.
5. I totally got the task.
It doesn't matter how well described the job is;
better not to make a statement that you got it.
And do not promise anything in the proposal.
As for me, The core idea of every proposal.
I sent it to schedule a call. You can share your
vision during the call and ask the right questions.
