I really miss my childhood so, FUCKING, bad! By the time it was (late) 2012, I was actually STARTING to miss it (born in 1999 here). My 13th birthday was on October 26th, and back in 2012 (it was on a Friday, BOO YAH), it was LESS than 2 months away towards the date the world was actually going to end! According to an ancient Mayan prophecy. And, surprisingly enough, when that dreadful date has come and gone, many people have moved on with their lives, celebrated the holidays, forgot that this shit has even happened in the first place, and became happy again! However, a VERY small amount of people (including myself) HAVE been reminiscing over the pre 2012 era for OVER a decade because 2012 was actually the year EVERYTHING has began to transition or change. Some changes were good, but some were bad as well! The world, as we know it, has actually ended (and exploded) on December 21st, 2012. And, it actually has NOTHING to do with growing out of one's childhood! However, I still miss my childhood (just like MANY people my age, particularly those CURRENTLY in their 20s). Here are some of the things that I miss from one's REAL childhood (growing up without technology taking over).
1. Going to the playground with family and friends, and NOT being judged for that! Some were outdoors, and were decent. OTHERS, were indoors and GIGANTIC! Take, for example, Bonkers FunHouse Pizza in Peabody, Massachusetts (closed permanently in February 2019 to be replaced by InTheGame, a big KNOCKOFF of Dave and Busters). This was the kind of place in which a child could spend HOURS at and still not get bored! Various arcade games (especially the row of pinball machines underneath one of 2 rope bridges), pizza, fun carnival rides like the Frog Hopper and Giddy Up Go merry go round, and of course, the HUGE playground would keep your child entertained for a very long time.
2. Biking, which would give me a GREAT amount of exercise for a growing boy! My favorite bike trail growing up is the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway in Massachusetts. Particularly the stretch of path from Arlington Center to downtown Lexington! When me and the boys (one of them was my ex best friend named Jared) would AGREE to bike this part of the trail on a hot summer day, it was towards Candy Castle! A small business located in Lexington, Massachusetts that was home to LOTS of candy and ice cream. It closed sometime in da late 2010s and I am SO sad that it's gone! :(
3. The Boston Children's Museum, what can I say? It's home to Arthur, his family and his friends in 1 exhibit beginning in like 2007! :)
4. Slurping some ORIGINAL GoGurt, which, while GoGurt is still around as of 2024, is actually NOT the same portable yogurt that it was back in the day! Why? Because back in the 2000s, a tube of this stuff actually had MORE sugar compared to now. By December 2012, Yoplait has secretly decided to cut down the sugar on ALL their yogurts, including their kid friendly GoGurt (made official by 2013). Not a good idea! :(
5. Celebrating Christmas with an EXTREME level of happiness! Particularly towards the lights, the presents, the cookies and Eric Hill's Spot! :)
The 2000s, a decade that is EXTREMELY overhated by many people, was actually the BEST decade ever, and a great decade to be a child in! Too bad that it was SO underrated compared to the 90s (I'm telling ya folks, the 90s actually SUCKED and don't deserve to be remembered). You had technology, sure but it was actually BALANCED with real life. Phones were actually NOT popular in the 2000s leading up to December 2012! Politics were not too bad, and food actually tasted AMAZING (I will NEVER have something as delicious like the OLD Domino's Pizza from 2008 EVER again). The people were nicer, and entertainment was at an ALL TIME HIGH in my opinion. There were SO many options for entertainment that throw me right back to being a kid when they are mentioned now! No COVID, no franchises going downhill (I'm looking at YOU, Spot and Spongebob), no censorship and barely ANY popular social media that has seemed to emerge in 2010s. However, bad events like 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and The Great Recession has happened in the 00s, but hey. No decade is perfect! If I had a time machine right now, then I would SO go back to the 2000s (and 2010s from 2010 - mid December 2012) and stay there.
Enjoy this video, and let's PRAY that scientists will 1 day make time machine that has an option to make yourself YOUNGER again! :(
