I am fortunate enough to live in Kelowna. Wlhen a family situatiion took me to Europe for a short stay which turned out to be 20 months, Noah's icredible video's helped me stay connected to home. I frequently referred these videos to inform many people I met about the beauty of home and it's many attractions. One video was especially relative when i suddenly realized he was featuring my friend Lou's Wakesurf attraction. So they were a valuable tool to introduce both the place and people to future oversea's visitors Noah's videos are helping to attract

I hear you about hating Kelowna. It’s a beautiful town but it’s not for everyone, and certainly not me either. The thing with me was no matter where I went in that city, my heart just kept telling me that it wasn’t home. I just naturally didn’t feel happy there and couldn’t put it into any more words than that. Although the social aspect of that city and the people were hard to walk away from, Vancouver has otherwise given me more of that true feeling of home. Just the people here are 10 times worse than in Kelowna.

I live in Kelowna, have my whole life. It's great, but there's a lot of crappy people here. And the city development has devastated the beautiful scenery. People think it's beautiful now, they shoulda seen it before this disgusting cancer of a city was built. Orchard park mall is called "orchard park" because it's literally built on-top of land that used to be all orchards. There's plenty to do here but the city is getting out of hand. Really sad for those of us who appreciate the nature aspect of this area.

As much as I love Kelowna for all the great things you mentioned, it is turning into a big city and starting to lose its appeal. We don't have the infrastructure to meet the needs of population growth, and urban sprawl is unsustainable not to mention very expensive. The outrageously priced housing market in Vancouver has lead to people selling their property there and buying available property here, inflating our housing and rental market prices. Our municipality is doing the best it can to keep up with transportation demand. We already have a significant struggle with single-occupant vehicles, but more sustainable options are being worked on. I'm not trying to be a downer, just sharing the other side of the coin.
@Littleblaza
3 жыл бұрын
You are correct what is happening here is high tech is taking over kind of like San Francisco last year it was already the biggest economic driver in K town. 1.7 Billion to be exact throw in the great exodus from Vancouver where 2 story house prices average over 2 million and you have a perfect storm for insane house prices. In 10 years my prediction is double current average house pricing 800.000 x 2 = 1.600.000 Million no joke.
@ThisTall
3 жыл бұрын
The municipality is doing everything it can to make the single occupancy vehicle issue worse. There must be 4-5 miles of rd in the down town core or within 20 blocks of it that were 2 lane and desperately needed to be made 4 lane. And while totally having the room to do it, instead they made the 2 lanes 3-4ft narrower and made 15ft wide sidewalks and bike lanes on each side, with 1% of the parking previously available there. And before anybody complains “oh but we need more bike lanes” , sure, but we don’t need 4-8ft of high maintenance grass or brick on each side of each bike lane AND sidewalk. It’s only 50% usable and 50% completely wasted aesthetic space. They’re essentially turning the roads into sidewalks in Kelowna.

been living in the area for a few good healthy years now, i can fully agree with this video. the surrounding area's if kelowna are breath taking. until you notice the gas price's jump for no reason, sun shine tax effect's EVERYTHING, real estate is fairly close to van (IMO), and an ever growing amount of out of province buyers. the bridge leaving kelowna is a murder fest as well. after the bridge into town the lay out of the city itself seems to have been done with a person tossing darts at a farm house. that's me being nice and NOT complaining about the nick name smokanogan from the several years of being smoked in by the wild fire's. that's been just kinda unfortunate.

Good video and nice view from Knox Mt. :) I actually had considered buying property in Kelowna, but find that like pretty much every other suburb in Canada, public transportation is severely lacking. Remove the mountains (which are purdy) and it's really no different than any other suburb in Canada, as in everything is really spread out and car-centric. The downtown is nice though and walkable, but outside of that little pocket, you pretty much have to have a car to get around.

Now I’m speaking as a guy who was born, raised, and grew up in Penticton my whole life which of course is a 45 minute drive south of there. So I was already familiar with Kelowna with having visited it countless times throughout my life. So Kelowna was the first city I moved out of Penticton to, and lived in from 2012 to 2014 minus the summer of 2013 in between. At the start it was amazing, but then it grew old very quickly. And I’m not so much concerned about the people and the “cliqueyness,” etc. It was more so Kelowna itself as a city to live in that just didn’t quite feel right. In my heart, I just felt it wasn’t home and that I needed to get out. But I felt way more of a community vibe there, and that the opportunities to meet people were much more immediate. And I loved the H2O pool and fitness centre! I now live in Vancouver, and as a city it feels more “complete.” Like I feel more sane and comfortable. Just I find the cliequeyness here is ten times worse than Kelowna, and that a lot of the people here are even less friendly. So that’s my kind of “taking the good with the bad.” That being said, Kelowna will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s beautiful yet limited, thus why I prefer the lower mainland as a bigger center with that much more to do. That’s all.

Actually it is not true! It all depends on the person.... Kelowna in fact was and is retirees final destination. If you are mid 20s, 30s or even 40s you do not belong to Kelowna. There is no major industries, businesses, ect here. Houses are super expensive to buy and to rent with lack of rentals to consider as well. There are not much rooms or opportunities for growth. There is no culture & no nightlife (pretty dead small downtown all around the year except 3 months of summer) as compared to big cities like Toronto or Vancouver all around the year with tones of choices for different ages and choices. No doubt Kelowna has a fantastic nature, Big White for skiers, campers, fishers etc... so if you are calm down, quite person with the least expectations in life, Kelowna will be your place to live... so I believe your title is not really realistic, it is just based on your present time personal preference which can be changed a few years down the road..... cheers!

I was born in Kelowna and although I live in Edmonton now holyyyy. I remember my grandmother’s place having so much wildlife. There was way less traffic and everyone now has a major superiority complex. I visit now every summer to see my family and I agree. I used to be so excited to go for summers, but now it lost its homey feel.

In the next 10 years there will be more growth here than in the last 50 years. Everywhere you look a new condo is going up for that reason I call it apartment city. Buying a house here is out of reach for most with the average 2 story home now costing 800.000 and a new build is 1 million with NO lot just a 3000 square foot house.
@fionadrews4347

@@Littleblaza My family has been there for decades. My grandparents bought a lot on the hills and built a house there. They were offered the whole street it was way back when but refused. Their house is so old and there is no AC or heating save for the wooden fireplace, but it still will go for over $1 million. Freaking crazy. There used to be no one living around the area on a higher hill above them. It’s littered with huge ass houses for millions of dollars. There used to be way more wildlife and it felt smaller more homey when I went there. Now it’s painful to see. Such a small place with overwhelming traffic and new houses taking up all the space for wildlife.

Ha ha...as much as I appreciate your enthusiasm for our fair city it might be somewhat misleading. I have been here since 1973, it was the perfect size then. I have raised children here, one has had to move away as it is impossible to raise children here on minimum wage because the rent is too expensive(still hold jobs here but can't afford to live in the city they work in). Seems many from Vancouver and Alberta are finding their homes here and pushing the the long standing residents out. Geographically it is a stunning city, one of the most gorgeous I have ever been in, but sadly as I wind down to retire...I need to find a home somewhere else more affordable. And don't get me started on the traffic/parking and the horrid drivers in this city. Kelowna is great in so many ways, if you are young, have money and have no dependents. All the best to you Noah...enjoy your stay.

I lived in Kelowna back in 2009 and distinctly remember going to an employment workshop. The woman guiding us for the day literally told everyone in the room to move to a different city. She said Kelowna is a place everyone wants to be and there simply aren't enough jobs for the average Joes. If you own a business, like yourself, that'll help tremendously. Housing in Kelowna is through the roof and, consequently, renters get sodomized shamelessly by the landlords because they know they can charge whatever they want.

Ayo I’m born and raised (21 y.o.) and was considered a prep. Honestly ^^^ most people in kelowna are very very rude cause it’s true, it’s very LA rich vibe yet it shouldn’t be like that cause we are all humans just trying to enjoy nature. It’s extremely upsetting. I mean heck, I literally have a handful of close friends that live here, nearly all of my friends live in Vancouver cause they’re way more loving and nice and overall inclusive and less drama fuelled. If you live here, you understand why it’s rare to find born and raised locals. We don’t fuck with other locals either 😭
@angelicenergy3279

That’s why if you’re out in public and smile at those walking around or say something nice, they act extremely shocked and half the time ignore you 😩💀 As I said I wish it wasn’t like this. But as someone who has lived here for their whole life, it’s like this :( Also if you want to have fun, go downtown, but only the the handful of picks available and never EVER go downtown on a Friday to the strip clubs if you’re in a girl only group. It’s shitty but a lot of my close friends ended up getting drugged on those nights by local gangs and whatnot which Kelowna runs rampit being slightly controlled under to an extent. Stay clear of that and you’ll be good! And don’t take the rudeness to heart, most people here just need a good hug and reality check lol

Loved living in the Okanagan for a few years, but the rents and property prices were far too high in relation to wages. Unless you make over $60,000 per year, you'll be living in poverty. You need to make over $80,000 per year to have a reasonable lifestyle. Other than that and the insane tourism traffic in the summer, the Okanagan is one of the most beautiful places to live.

We vacationed in Kelowna for years. Only because my daughter had friends there. If it wasn’t for her we easily could have found better places to go. Even Jasper isn’t as crowded and far more beautiful. Housing is probably similar in value. I honestly didn’t think Kelowna was that nice but people we met were friendly. The over crowded only highway ended it for us. We got tired of sitting in a parking lot going in or out of Kelowna. They need a monorail or LRT going down the Center of that highway. It would reduce traffic significantly.
