"I Need Thee Every Hour" was composed by Annie Sherwood Hawks during day to day tasks. She experienced a sense of nearness to God and wondered how she could survive without Him, in joy or pain. Then the title came to her and she started forming the verses. Robert Lowry, the pastor of Annie's church, added the chorus and composed the tune. It was first distributed in 1872.
We can all be blessed by the sentiment of this hymn. We need Him every hour, every minute and every second. It doesn't matter if it is a pleasant day, or one we'd rather forget, we need Him. Life is of no use without Him. May we all remember this each day as we go about our tasks. We need Him every hour.
I Need Thee Every Hour
Verse 1
I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Chorus
I need Thee, O I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Saviour,
I come to Thee.
Verse 2
I need Thee every hour;
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
Verse 3
I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
Verse 4
I need Thee every hour;
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
