I've been using stilts for 18 years. Surpro double sided magnesium Definitely by far the most comfortable and durable I've used thanks for the videos buddy 👍

DuraStilt are the original stilts all others are based off since the 60's, excellent stilts. Sur-Pro stilts are good also. Have had Marshaltown Skywalkers also but found them a heavy. One tip is to replace the straps on your new stilts with wide bands, much more comfortable. I got them on ebay

Alright mate, I bought some to do some big high ceilings in January, they were rst elevator stilts, never tried them before, but I just mixed up, somehow loaded 3 bags of skim up onto two big tool crates and started. Was a bit wobbly at times but after a while lifting my feet rather than dragging them became normal. Used them twice after on the same job on other ceilings and still wobbled a few times but never felt close to coming off. Unfortunately my van was stolen alongside all my tools 2 weeks ago so I’ll be getting some new ones! Best advice would be use them on the lowest setting possible and just go For it. The more you think about it the worse it’ll be!

Oh man, that’s horrible I think it’s the worse thing you can do to a tradesman is steal his van and all your tools. The people who do this should be sent down for this. Stealing someone’s living. Thanks for the advise I’m definitely gonna take it easy when first trying them. I hope your doing alright bud and you’ve got yourself going again.👍

@@AnthonyParryPlastering cheers mate, yeah was certainly a shock in the morning when my mrs went to move it off yellow lines and it was gone! Still kind of in shock now actually. It cost 7 grand and the insurance people have just offered me 4 and a half, nightmare! Yeah mate getting there, just bought a carbon steel trowel so that sitting in vinegar as we speak, can’t wait to get back to work haha. But yeah go east on the stilts but you’ll be fine, I’m awful with balance and whatnot but I’ve been fine!

The stilts don’t matter as much in my opinion, it’s the time you spend setting them up properly. My stilts for example cost me £15 second hand from a local dramatics place who had been using them to be a giant in a play. They are not an expensive brand at all, I can’t even find a tag on them. But I swapped the crappy standard straps for the soft wide foam ones and spent a good couple of hours playing with the suspension and walking up and down my garden path until they felt ‘right’ ever since I can be on them for 4 hours at a time and be fine. Slight achy feet but I’ve reduced that by mitre-mating a pair of thick slipper soles to where I stand on them and it’s reduced it a tonne! Hope this helps 👍🏼

@@AnthonyParryPlastering 100% mate, the ones I’ve been on before absolutely destroyed my feet and calves, so I made sure I took the time with this set and always oil the springs after use to make sure they last. But the set up is always the reason people struggle with them 👍🏼

@@stevenprice4969 magnesium are best due to weight decent side /calf straps are essencial too , if their not connected properly to your legs fatigue will occur . And set them correctly to the ceiling height , a hands span from head to the ceiling , do this by holding them up to the ceiling while standing on the floor and having that hands span from stilt to head , so you know height is correct b before you get on them , if you get what im saying , too high or too low isnt good for plastering . Also lessen off the springs , you want lost of bounce on the suspension, so yoiu can use them for a longer stroke and get them to take the strain not your shoulder over extending

I never used stilts ... I used to to have a couple of 'Double Milk Crates' and a few different length scaffold boards (for different size rooms) and then tie one to the two double-crates making a very useful, easy to move around, tressle....... I see Spreads on KZitem and on sites using them and it's a worrying sight .... Many Waddle on them and STOOP too low to collect the muck .... THIS! can only be setting themselves up for a Bad Back and Replacement HIPS in the future ....... The OTHER worrying sight these days, is Spreads STOOPING al the time to take the Muck out of a bucket on the floor .... You want to SCREAM at them ..... But like ME in the past ...... They WOULD NOT! Listen ...... Good luck Anthony, hope YOU make the right decision :-)

SURMAGS lightest on the market as they are magnesium , heavy cheap stilts will ruin your knees in time . Not only that a pair of stills will increase your pull stroke by nearly double , as you can use your legs not your shoulder to create a longer stoke . Ive used them all in 20 odd years of being on stilts . Marhsaltown 1 and 2s are too heavy, ali stilts are also too heavy ....magnesium all the way .

anthony if your looking for a good set of stilts try the marshalltown stilts ive been using them for years ,wont go near a ceiling without them . theres different sizes which inables you to adjust them to suit the height you want. as for your ankles you dont use them on marshalltown stilts you use the sole plates which are on springs and work as your ankles instead.and of course stilts are totally different to what you have been using so get some practice on any stilts you buy until you feel totally confident on them
