It's never easy to talk about our weaknesses. This was a tough video to make. It brought up a lot of stuff for me. Life throws curveballs. You get through them. Even if it takes 2 decades. Keep going 💪

As someone who's been struggling with hand pain for 2 decades and frustration over the detrimental effects it has to my piano practicing capability (- to quote the bible "the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak") I found this very inspirational. Thanks Paul

I I hope my story helps others that are going through difficult times stay focused and resolute!. Situations and circumstances don't always go the way we thought or planned. And sometimes we have to be more patient than we intended. But I believe that these situations make us stronger and more complete. As people, good people. We have to use those difficult situations and circumstances and turn them around.

So, coffee drinking AND piano can exist in the same universe now 😉 Interesting to hear your back story!

Did I have a coffee on my piano again? I usually get a few comments when I produce a video and have a glass of wine or coffee on my piano - it freaks people out. I really don't recommend people put anything on their piano. It's just wrong! The risks are high and the pain would be great should anything spill. And thanks for watching the backstory!

@@Jazzmentl Oops, maybe I came in a bit too lateral; it was with reference to your doctor's warning that you would never be able to pick up even a cup of coffee again if you continued playing; but now you're playing again, and I assume picking up a cup of coffee is no issue; so, both coffee drinking and piano can exist in your world now; whereas, before, it was one or the other :)

@@TinyMaths oooohhhh. 😆. Of course! It's funny. I really thought I had a coffee on my piano again. Yeah Dr. Chung made me put my seat back about a foot and corrected the seat height. And then I had to correct my left hand wrist mechanics by 2 mm. And I had to learn how to release those keys faster and not push them down. It was a whole frustrating and devastating period in my life. I can remember going to the car and having a meltdown and taking it out on the steering wheel. It was the worst news of my life at that time. And really it was all about poor body mechanics. I would have talked about how all that suffering was due to lack of knowledge about the body mechanics in greater length but it would take a whole other video.

@@Jazzmentl My arm used to hurt quite a bit but much better now thankfully. However, I have discovered that it's playing fast (or attempting to play fast) that bothers it and I have to limit the amount of time I practice that. As far as a video, perhaps it could be combined with other thoughts you may have on technique for playing fast.
