I played DS all the way back in 2015 after I beat bloodborne. I beat DS 10+ times and this year I saw my my friend play the game for the first time and he pulled the Ultra Greatsword Black Knight all the way back to the bridge and the Dragon's fire killed the knight. My jaw hit the floor...

20:42 Iron Tarkus is the best summon in the series. He is the only NPC that has dozens of videos of him just soloing the boss. You dont have to fight Iron Golem, you can just watch Tarkus do it lmao. If you notice in the vid, his light attacks were doing more damage than your heavy attacks, and your weapon is very strong.

yeah, it's kinda shitty how everyone talks about this game like it's impossibly difficult and therefore, "only fun for masochists." Games journalism has done the souls series such an injustice to the point where literally over a decade after the game came out, people are still "discovering" that it's fun because the image they had of the game beforehand was that it's only for sweaty basement dwelling nerds but that's just simply inaccurate. They're simply very well-designed action games that have an internal, diegetic difficulty system decided by the gear and leveling choices you make for your character. Literally no one who plays strength or magic builds walks away from the game experience like "Wow that was extremely hard." tldr: of course Dark Souls is this fun; the rest of the games in the series are even better, it's just that the vast majority of the gaming population will never give these games even the lightest of college tries that they deserve because of a misconception that they're exclusively for, like I said, the stereotype of a South Park WoW player.
@lillyclarity9699
Жыл бұрын
I know, sometimes, games are fun regardless of what the entirety of games journalism as a space have to say about any certain games' difficulties. Crazy, literal insanity, right? At least until you remember that Games are meant to be fun. Anyone whose take away is that "Souls games are more difficult than they are fun," are folks whose most intimate experience of any single game in the entire series being reading articles about it needing a difficulty option on Polygon.

Dark Souls 1 was my first of the series, not too long before the release of Dark Souls 3. I was put off for a few years, the whole "Woah man this game is harder than hard!" stuff convinced me it probably wasn't my type of game. Then, a friend convinced me to try it with him in a voice chat as a semi-guide. Only providing occasional pointers as to which general direction to go in and giving me the gist of the more obscure mechanics such as poise and stat scaling. I did exactly that for another friend of mine, gifted him Dark Souls 1 a couple month ago and now he's beaten that, and Elden Ring. Easily THE title to introduce people to series. Its showing its age in some places but its more clunky and slower gameplay loop is probably the most effective foundation of how to play the rest of the series. Also: 4:25 I had no idea the Black Knight could be kited that far and killed by that method. You really never stop learning with these games, goddamn.
