Cool! I'm an active duty marine and it was fun seeing you eat these MREs. Meatballs and marinara is one of the best MREs by consensus. Protein bars are often the most sought-after as you can probably tell (they are always that hard). Also, the sugars can help your mood when you're in the field! Subbed. P.S. It makes it easier to do situps with a buddy holding your legs. However, you should also be grabbing your biceps with your arms tight to your chest.

I remember the last fitness exam in Army basic training (if you fail that one, you don't graduate which means you went through weeks of hell for nothing), the drill sergeants would generally help people out. So If all they had left was sit-ups and they were struggling, the drill sergeants would count by 3s. Mainly because the idea that someone who is willing to be sent into combat should be held back because they needed a few more sit-ups is absurd.
@michaelweston1042

The real trick to MRE's is to use the spreadable cheese packages as currency, you can pretty much buy anything you want from anyone after the first week if you use those to barter. Also, most of it is better if you warm it up with the heating elements they include or some other way.

For the “crunch” portion of the USMC PFT; cross your arms by grabbing the opposing bicep, and you only have to touch your elbows to your lower thigh, then go back down until your shoulder blades touch the deck (ground). At the start of MCT, we all loved eating the MRE's; had no issues with them right up to the end of the month long training. By the time we got to our schoolhouse for our MOS training a week after the hike back from Camp Devil Dog to Camp Geiger, we literally couldn't stomach MRE's anymore. It wasn't even that we had gotten sick of them after eating only MRE's for a month straight and then having a week of chow hall food, we quite literally had trouble bringing ourselves to eat them even when we were hungry.

Not to take away from the cardio base that you have already but you probably have to change up your routine and include more speed and interval training. I’ve heard that running longer distances will not make a person run a faster 1.5 or 3 mile, and it makes sense

You should do the ACFT, Army Combat Fitness Test! It’s a lot harder than old physical fitness test, not too many people have scored a perfect score.

MRE’s are genuinely not that bad, some are actually good and you get excited for like beef brisket or the vegetarian crumble. Also, I’ve never really had an issue pooping after eating them but I also drink a lot of water

Will, I feel like you are missing an opportunity man. The new US Army ACFT is great content for a video. Maybe a follow up? Obviously I'll watch either way. My first Tim Hortons experience was actually at Fort Knox, Kentucky while I was stationed there. Sadly, I'm in DC now and the only way to get Timmy Ho's is to try to make friends with the Canadian embassy staff since I'm pretty sure they get their fix with donuts shipped inside diplomatic packages.

The 2nd portion of the test is actually supposed to be crunches instead of sit-ups which don’t require as much effort. There’s technique behind it as well. I was always taught to just make sure your shoulder blades touch the ground, so you roll you shoulders forwards slightly to push them out more and then you’re supposed to wrap your arms over each other touching your elbows with your hands and keeping them to the core of your body just barely sliding them to touch your legs. You also bring your body as close to you legs and keep as little as a gap in your thighs and calves to cut out unnecessary space that takes more time. I always made sure to also keep my neck up and as tight to my chest as it helped roll the shoulders forward better and hold it. Doing all of that and being decent with abs makes it very easy to pass that portion of the test with a perfect score. I usually just crank it out max energy all the way to 90 or 100 and then give myself 3-5 second breaks in between however many I can knock out next. This makes it so that I would usually finish with 130-150 depending on numerous factors. Still getting under 19 minutes in the run is very impressive if you ask me. My best run was 19:03 and I finished first out of everyone there. I hadn’t even realized how far ahead I was from everyone else. I just didn’t know the trail we were running and just stuck with the head of the pack until the halfway mark and just took off running after that cause I felt they were gonna slow me down if I played it safe so I wouldn’t get lost. I got “rewarded” by my sergeant with “special attention” in PT workouts for dusting everyone there.

Other reason you don't put the powder into your canteen....no dish soap in the field. Also, Will, don't feel bad about only getting 64 crunches. We had a saying: "if you don't get max crunches, you don't have a friend in the corps". Crunches are counted by your partner, and there's a little quid pro quo that usually goes on there. Finally, Will's reaction to the meatballs, when he first says "it's not that bad" then realizes ".....oh no.....it's bad" is a pretty relatable MRE experience.

He actually did situps instead of crunches which is what made him slower. He almost passed even doing the harder version so he likely would have passed the easier version
