WARNING ⚠️ do not watch this vid on empty stomach or you will be sorry...as was I 🤪 I as a Czech living abroad for over 20 years have to work on my “dumpling deficit” every time I go home. For all of those thinking isn’t this a bitt heavy on the stomach? the answer is yes, but don’t worry, there are two excellent remedies for that in every restaurant, they are called Becherovka and Fernet 🤷♂️ PS: you need a raw egg in you’re Tatarák 😉

@@ArepasforDinner I would also say that the sauce looked like it could have used a little more cream. The lemon is also a necessity, everyone likes their svíčková differently. The veggies its made from make it a little sweet and even though the chef makes sure it is well balanced, they should serve the lemon. Oh and btw the dumpling is mostly made of "coarse flower" and usually has only a small amount of bread in it.

No they should not. I dont like when they put lemon there without any warning :D. This should be fully optional. I cannot eat that even if i put it out becouse its allready contaminated. Quality of sauce, tells the quality of cook. As the old sayings go. I am glad you managed to enjoy the day - Czech cuchine is one on the heavy side, where is hard to enjoy multiple recepies at once - especially when mixed with beef tartar. Quite delicious recepies worth trying are Rajská omáčka (tomato sauce with bread dumplings and meat/or meatloaf slice), Segedínský guláš (sauerkraut and cream goulach with bread dumplings and meatbites), Uzená medová žebra (smoked, honey flavoured ribs with bread), Koprová omáčka - might be liked by vegeterians (cream dill sauce with bread dumplings and boiled egg), and some sweet/sugar tasting recipies - Buchtičky se šodó (special bread-bites in cream-pouding like sauce - \BTW tasting similar as Svatební buchtičky - weding sweet bread), Vdolky (un/filled european donuts with jam and whipped cream on top - you can eat warm or cold and use only hand with no cutlery... :D). Regarding fish recepies, - trout, pike, carp, perch. Czech republic is land-locked, but czechs LOVE water and to some degree the fish dishes. Also, there is (to a degree exclusive) side, called Bramborák - grated potatoes with herbs and garlic (+possibly something extra, not sure with the recepie) merged into mash and afterwards baked like pancakes. Sometimes infused with bits of smoked meat or bits of sauerkraut. Home version is bigger (almost a plate-like size) and is served one after another, "side" version some restaurants use is smaller size (kinda like bread dumpling slice sized) and multiple bramboráks (3+) on a plate. It can be eaten as a main dish, but restaurants tend to sell those with china-like meatbites with vegetables - and sometime sauerkraut, or shaped as a closed pocket with cheese inside. Or even with chicken meat inside - being kind of "schnitzel" made out of bramborák and meat. Hope you will discover foods in czech cookbook, that you may enjoy. BTW - last not least - Big Thank you to Jan for his support to you and steady cameraman hand.

Especially if they are made in a honey-based sauce. But in most places, the skin of the knuckle is not eatable. In your case it looks delicious! Then soak everything in sauce a put it into your mouth. This way it tastes much better. It is common mistake of foreigners, they eat everything separately. Nikita Rungta oh that one is hard. There’s a couple of options (vegans no but vegetarians) maybe I could try doing one like that soon. I’m not a huge vegetarian myself! Don’t get me wrong I love vegetables but I don’t think I eat much vegetarian foods. I suffer from anemia when lowering my meat intake 😭 but you are not the first to ask so I’ll try to 🤗

czech Republic is meat-country :) but some vege foods can be found there: N/Kulajda | Kulajda soup N/Bramborák | Potato-cake - delicious, unhealthy but damn delicious! N/Smazeny kvetak | fried Kvetak with potatoes - healthy+delicious! N/Kapustove rizky (karbanatky) se syrem | Cabbage cutlets (meatballs) with cheese N/Koprová omacka s vejcem | Dill sauce with egg /there is meat, but You may ask not to put it there/ S/Dukatove buchticky | DUCATI BUNS WITH VANILLA CREAM N/Fried cheese - there are modifications: eidam, or Niva, or Hermelin cheese. - lot of soaps with no meat inside(Potato/spinach soup etc.) N/olomoucké tvarůžky | Olomoucian cheese N/Dumplings with Egg, but very hard to find in restaurants S - sweet food N - no sweet food. - first 3-5 are quite common national foods - in self service restaurant Havelska koruna there are lot of foods where You can choose by Yourself to take or to not take food with meat .

@@ArepasforDinner Beef when cured can taste good, still raw beef is toxic. I would much rather eat liver pate.Cured and smoked salmon or trout tastes awesome but can carry parasites like tape worm. It's a risky food. Beef sausages fried or BBQ ed taste great. What do Czech sausages taste like? I like Spanish spicy sausage.

A Peppermint Candy indeed they can as sushi does. But as sushi in japan is far too common of a dish here so the meat is treated with special care when used for Tatar. Is not just burger meat. Is actually lean knife shaved steak! But if you don’t like it no worries. There’s tons of amazing foods here! Well Czech sausages are very different from chorizos for sure! But even tho I’m Spanish I prefer them! I think czech sausages are the best sausages out there! Counting Germany! 😋

@@ArepasforDinner I probably will taste one day.I love chicken liver pate a lot on a crusty bread and smoked prosciutto. Also Serbian sausage-mild is super tasty. It has garlic and lots of paprika and it's either dry-smoked or raw ready for frying. What you were having looked very good.

I'm yet to understand the hype around fried cheese. It's not bad, although unless we're talking fried Mozzarella or Niva, the usual Eidam one tastes like a piece of fried cardboard. Having grown up in CR I can confirm it might as well be the national dish in terms of popularity though, everyone - especially the tourists - is just devouring metric tons of this stuff and it's still confusing the daylights out of me. If the US will ever need a supporter in the crusade to prove Cheese is above all food, Czechia's got them covered.

While the fried cheese is sadly a part of our cuisine and there is nothing we can do about that, it's not a part we are proud of I would say. People eat it, yes, but it's sort of like a fast food and I am sure that the vast majority of Czechs wouldn't serve it to any foreigner as a typical meal or something to showcase what our food is about. Svíčková on the other hand is definitely one of the most typical dishes that is truly Czech I believe.

You are a great resource for those of us making the move to Prague. We are in Panama and are fed up. I swear this government wants to model Venezuela. So in February, once our lease is up we are heading your way. My wife is Panamanian and we have 2 1/2 yo. Maybe I will bring you a few kilos of Arepa powder. Jajajaja. We have been to Prague twice and love it. Keep up the great work!
