*Fun fact for those interested:* The PS2 controller he has is definitely legit, and RARE, and it's actually kind of a collectible. It's controller model SCPH-10520 and is basically a DualShock 2 controller with the rumble motors removed. The timelines here are a little fuzzy to lock down, but for some time in 2006 Sony sold these controllers in blue packaging with the notice "DOES NOT SUPPORT VIBRATION" printed on them. The controllers themselves were cheaper than DualShock 2 controllers so most people thought Sony was introducing budget-friendly peripherals to the market. But in reality this was all due to a lawsuit with a company called Immersion over the vibration function of the DualShock controller. Sony was able to keep selling the DualShock 2 while they had an appeal under review with the court, but they actually lost their first appeal in 2006 which is why these controllers were released, and filed a new appeal with federal court. If anyone here remembers correctly, the original PS3 launched in 2006 with the SIXAXIS controller which also had its vibration functionality removed. Sony eventually settled the lawsuit in March of 2007 with Immersion and was granted the right to continue to use the vibration technology/design. That same year at a press conference in Japan Sony announced the DualShock 3 controller, which was essentially a SIXAXIS PS3 controller with the rumble motors put back in to it (lol, right?). Sony released the DualShock 3 controller in North America in 2008. For some reason a lot of people don't remember the rumbleless time period between 2006-2009. Even I forgot about it until I did this little research after seeing this video. When Sony released the PS3 Slim in 2009 (the one most of us had and remember) it came standard with a DualShock 3 controller, and since then we've had uninterrupted vibration functionality. So if you think about it, the controller he has in this video (and for anyone else who has one) could be considered a collectible because it was made only for a specific reason and had a short lifespan.

Purchased one of these refurbished PS2 slims from GameStop this week - in part based on watching your video. Mine turned out to be not as clean - but not too bad. The controller was a dual-shock fairly worn - but useable. The system works - plays PS2 games fine. PS1 games, not so well. Some appear to work, but then simply stop. Some don't play at all. Guessing its the laser. Will probably replace it with a new one. Enjoyed the video.

There were some early ps2 controllers that didn’t have rumble motors. I remember my very first ps2 the original model didn’t have any rumble motors but looked like a DualShock 2, and was jealous when my parents bought my sister a ps2 slim and hers came with a DualShock 2 with rumble motors

What it could be, there is a black version of the original “analog” controller that came before the dualshock which looked just like it, which shipped with early ps2 like mine, and later ps1, it looked just like DualShock 2s. That’s what it might be

@@ultramagnushurts It's surprising it happened at all given that there's a number of games that actually require the Dual Shock 2, and having owned both the PS1 and PS2 the Dual Shock 1 did come with rumble. It was an answer to the analogue and rumble compatible N64 controller after all. I digress, the DS2 actually had touch sensitive buttons which could trigger different actions based upon how hard they were pressed. While this wasn't commonly implemented it was necessary to progress in some games, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time being a good example of this as it had a late dungeon where the puzzles required this feature.
@ultramagnushurts

flarpman2233 that’s true. I’m not sure why Sony did it at all tbh either. I was 10 when I got it and remember it vividly, and I have it somewhere in my attic boxed away. I know a lot of the FPS didn’t differentiate between the analogue and the DualShock but I do remember some games had to have a DualShock and I had to breakdown and spend my allowance to buy one.

The controllers always had motors but did not have the white insert piece to hold the motors.. Like their are usually 2 black horizontal rails (black and part of the shell) on the inside of both halves with padding on the motor that squishes the motor in place with the shell. Kinda crazy the white brackets to hold them and no motors.. Anyway good vid, wassap peoples!?

I remember a lawsuit against Sony cause of the joystick and I think I remember Nintendo going after Sony for the rumble for the last part of the ps2 and the lawsuit was still going on when the ps3 came out. Remember the ps3 had six axis controllers but no dual shock. This ps2 controller could be one's off the line during that lawsuit over the rumble. It could be a aftermarket like you said though. In 2002, Sony and Microsoft were sued by Immersion for patent infringement for the use of vibration functions in their gaming controllers. I found this on wikipedia. Any controllers manufactured at the time were without rumble function. I thought it was Nintendo but it was Immersion. I don't know that company but they had a patent on the dual rumble and Nintendo was ok because the N64 rumble pack was a single rumble motor. I learned something looking at all of this. I didn't know Microsoft had legal issues over the rumble but it was a joint case.

Is there any solution to that like an HDMI mod or something? I know about component cables but I'm sure it still would look horrible that way. PS2 is still my favourite console to date I spend so many hours on that and the games were amazing, the PS3 never struck me as hard as the PS2 did. And for the PS4 its getting close to the PS2 in my opinion, such great games are released so I hope if the PS5 comes out it will support backwards compatibility for all their previous consoles. Controller model is SCPH-10520, released around 2006/2007. Sony announced at E3 2006 that it would remove the rumble feature from the PS3 controllers because of "interference with motion controls". In actuality Immersion's lawsuit against Sony considering haptic feedback was the cause for this, as proven by this rumble-less PS2 controller, which appeared at the same time.

@@common_c3nts They had an excuse, they lost the lawsuit. Microsoft settled with Immersion, but Sony continued the fight and they lost in 2006, having to pay around $90m. Even robot controllers as far back as 1950s had it. Sega's arcade game had rumble it in 1976. TX-1 had it in 1983 for a racing game. But if their shitty lawyers could not make a good argument then they should have just settled, it is the customers that pay for it anyways, not sony.

Remember when the PS3 was first released, Sony was hit with a lawsuit from a company stating that the rumble mechanism was their creation; not Sony's. The lawsuit claimed that Sony was using the rumble feature without compensating the company. Thus, the 1st round of PS3 controllers only had SixAxis controls and NO rumble feature. A few months later, the lawsuit was settled and Sony released the PS3 controller with SixAxis & rumble feature. All that said, I wonder if Sony was still making PS2 controllers at the time and had to remove the rumble feature in them?

I remember the lawsuit, but I am thinking there may have been another thing with the PS2. Not everyone liked the rumble feature when it came out - I was one of those, and actually looked for controllers that did NOT have the rumble feature. Nowadays, it doesn't bother me, but some of those early rumble features were just poorly implemented by games, and I would have controllers shake out of my hands sometimes. The rumble feature added to the cost. I remember there being 3rd parties that offered controllers without the rumble feature for people like me, which cut down on the price of the controlers, but I cannot remember if Sony did or not. I do remember taking apart a Playstation controller before to fix it and it looking exactly like that, with no rumble packs, but I don't remember which system that was, but I am guessing it was a PS2 Slim because I remember picking up Kingdom Hearts 2 day one and I seem to recall having issues with my PS2 controller buttons being mushy, and I just spent all my money on the game and didn't have any money to replace the controller. So yeah, I don't recall the exact details, but that controller and its innards look very familar to me.

Bangin' Badger Bangin' Badger it’s definitely clickbaity... it’s walking that line a little too closely. The wording of the title alludes to him not getting what he paid for. It’s no different that if I said “ I ordered a big Mac from McDonald’s, but you won’t believe what was in the bag”... Only for there to have been exactly what I ordered with no deviations. Why couldn’t he have just said “I ordered a refurbished PS2 from GameStop... And it’s not bad” ? It’s definitely more subtle than some of the overtly blatant click bait that a lot of other youtubers will use, but it’s there. The entire purpose of saying *“… And this is what they sent me”* is to keep peoples interest piqued throughout the video because they’re expecting something more/unusual/different. So you end up watching more of it expecting some big surprise, or omission than you would have if you had known it wasn’t going to be anything but what he ordered.
@joshuawilloughby2696

@@quiettimegaming3642 it's how KZitemrs attract clicks, it's almost standard for all KZitemrs these days. It triggers someone's curiosity and pulls them into the video to see what happened. I really don't blame him because he isn't one of those big channels that attract the lowest common denominator (kids) in to watch videos on fortnite. You have to have a title that draws the eye of people who arnt subscribed to the channel, who may be curious to see what he got when he ordered the ps2. If it was labeled as 'i ordered a ps2 from GameStop... And it was ok' then there would be no curiosity about the contents of the video and the user may pass the video by. I don't like clickbaity titles but it's just how the system works, regardless of if it's a video or a news article, they all have titles like this to get you to click to find out more.
@quiettimegaming3642
5 жыл бұрын
Joshua Willoughby I wouldn’t say that it’s standard for all youtubers and channels. I wouldn’t even say it’s standard for most channels. But over the past year or so I have admittedly been seeing that intentionally vague and clickbaity wording more than ever before. But that’s just and excuse to justify misleading or crappy actions. Saying “everyone else is doing it” is never an acceptable justification for doing something that you know is wrong. On top of that, if you’re willing to click bait it shows that you are willing to sacrifice long term viability and respect in exchange for a few extra clicks now. Because while he maybe a younger/smaller channel now… He won’t be forever, these kind of things won’t be forgotten, and like every other KZitemr that does stuff like this, one day someone is going to make a video and call him out for all of his instances of lies and click bait and misleading his audience over the years… And everyone will just hop all over it because people love to be outraged. You can see MatPat going through that exact same thing right now, where everyone’s calling him out for anything he’s ever done… And even things he didn’t, all Because people felt he used a misleading title and thumbnail for his recent HeartBound video. And things started snowballing from there. In fact I would argue more of the opposite position. Where, *if everyone is doing something, why not stand out by being the only person who isn’t?* The reality is that good content doesn’t need to click bait. And there was nothing wrong with this video, meaning the clickbait wasn’t unnecessary.
