I always found the best analogy in this film the way sophie makes the comparison between the inability of worms to observe light and the existence of life, because worms have absolute no notion of the existence of light, while humans 100% do. So why could it not be the same for humans as well for other phenomenon. It makes you wonder, why isn’t it possible to believe in something without it being noticeable, just like those worms light is as real as it can be, while for them the data says it does not exist. I loved this movie from start to finish, very much so because of the tension between science and spirituality :)

I watched it for the second time today and I noticed that at the end when Ian finally believes, he opens the door for him and Salomina which is funny because Sofi told Ian, "You have a door to the other side," "You won't always be scared," "You have to go in to find out."

Lucy Hon I believe her name is Sofi because it’s alluding to Ancient Greek philosophy meaning Intelligent, Wise, Clever - Only a few were/are able to practice Sophia. Sofi believed in what pretty much ancient philosophers taught - remember the scene where Ian meets Karen in his lab for the first time and when they’re both naming the variables Karen says the word “Psychopannychia” that word means after death, the soul goes to sleep and it awakens after resurrection. Hence, Sofi’s soul being reincarnated in the end.

Be careful what you wish for! For demeaning her as a child, the spiritual realms enforce her upon him as a child. When he finally finds her in his arms, he does not cherish her enough. In each and every instance, he disagrees with her subtle instincts, disregarding her refusal to be dragged out of the lift, fatally sheering her apart. Existence torments him, forcing him to hunt for her all the way in the chaos of India.

I just now saw the movie, wow, I can’t stop thinking about it. But I have to wonder most about the most recognizable actor in the movie. The salesman who does gods work in the elevator, who is only seen twice in the movie once in the elevator, and then once about to take the elevator, as the doctor walks the girl up the stairs, when I first saw him, I thought he play a bigger role, but I think he played the biggest role. Symbolically he was connected to the elevator, but finally convinced him of the connections.

My husband and I are twin flames. Just like in the movie, the relationship is effortless, comprehension, and flow are too good to be true, based we are programmed to think relationships must struggle. In the twin flame reunion you can be yourself. One person resists, and does not believe, this is a struggle that must be surpassed. Sadly she knew the lesson in this life was short. This is explained by premonitory dreams or feelings.

Just found out about this movie tonight, and i am very much looking forward to seeing it now, it looks really good! Although i find myself at times, impatient with people who dont see the spiritual, i do understand we all have our own time to choose when were ready to go beyond the materiel world, but when we open up to synchronicity, its really hard to deny.

I love this movie, and watch every once in awhile after some time has passed, so it feels fresh. When I was younger I felt deja vu a lot and it seems it was trying to teach a spiritual way of communion/connection and being a musician having the emotional sound pores open then really helped tap into my life on many levels @ that time. It's sadly dissipated as I've gotten older. But that's for another conversation. There is definitely a spiritual world which needs to be tapped into with open minds & hearts so we can learn to let go of all the petty nonsense we focus on as a specie. It would be great to witness a true positive shift in this lifetime, of the worlds consciousness, creating a more heavenly/lived experience, without all the fear, fighting, and confusion...

please read if you have doubts about the spiritual realm. i think i can turn you. i have been looking for this film for ten years. i stumbled upon it once when i was younger but i couldn’t remember the name. i thought about it so much than it infiltrated my dreamscape. tonight, i finally found it. it is everything i remembered it to be : brilliant. i myself was very cold, calculated and agnostic until i had lost my own sophie. he was perfect. it felt like divine intervention. we were attached at the hip. absolutely mesmerized and infatuated with each other. he believed in god with all his heart. in all of the little stories in that book we call the bible. he was murdered not seven months later. he once told me he was going to die first. i told him it was going to be me. he was certain. he said he would be shot. after writing my list of things i wanted, with every one of them coming true, i started to open my own eyes. the day we fought, i closed my eyes and put my head on my desk. he kept poking me, asking what was wrong. he asked it maybe 50 times. then he gave up. he stopped talking to me, stopped sitting next to me. it was months without him, until a thursday morning when we saw each other for the first time in what felt like forever. he smiled, put his hand on my head and shoved it away. we laughed. he walked away, still watching me. it was the next day that i found myself called to the window of my bedroom. it was 11:10, but i didn’t know that yet. i got up, walked to the window, and watched. as if i was waiting for something. then i heard it. a gunshot. i remember gripping the frames of my window, looking down and my chest burning. i couldn’t breathe. i was shaking. i felt the bullet as if it had entered my own chest. moment later, i heard his friend scream out his name. then his mother. his little sisters and his little brother. the sirens. the train sound. the next morning, i found out that he had died from a gunshot wound to the chest at 11:11pm. everything he said would happen happened. everything. he visits me still sometimes, not in conversationally responsive flickering lights, the exact lights we had said we would use to tell the first person who crossed over that we were on the other side, and there really was more than this. His name was Federico Abarca. He proved me wrong.

Watched it last night (Amazon Prime). Kept waking up all night thinking of it. That is the sign of a good movie. As someone educated in hard science (math, physics) I like science + spiritual. F = MA, Maxwell, etc is only the shallow parts of the world where I can put a rock on a rope and let it swing, move a magnet over a wire. I have had a life of 'paranormal' experiences which means events where a pendulum model is not enough to look at the world. I have read Ian Stevenson's MD work on reincarnation (t University of Virginia) and liked that the writer is really bringing that in with the eyes (birthmarks and reincarnation). Great movie and glad to have found it. Good for people who are in the hard science world with open minds.

I just watched this film (I was a huge fan of "Another Earth") and while I did enjoy it immensely overall... I was extremely off put by the elevator scene. I found it really gratuitous and unnecessary, so much so it almost felt like cheap shock value. He's a learned scientist, and while temporarily blind, we're supposed to believe he thought it a good idea to climb out of a broken elevator. Everyone knows about that risk of sliding through a half exposed opening / getting sliced. Should have seen that coming a mile away. Then to see Sofie cut in half... it was just so unnecessary in my view. From the moment he started climbing I was saying "nope nope don't do it, please no..." and Wham. Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I had no issue with her dying and I realize it served a major plot point... and that it was very important with the way they circled back to it with the young girl scared of elevators late in the film... I just wish they'd spun her death into something a little less shocking and bewilderingly dumb. In an otherwise brilliant film that I enjoyed this part stuck out like a sore thumb.

Your analysis is flawed since you clearly oppose science and spirituality as if one could only hold one position. But as the main character's wife demonstrated with her "hovering phone" example, if spirituality is true, it can be demonstrated by science. You also show a clear bias against science when representing the MC's position as close-minded when it's quite the contrary: he nevers stops to look for answers and follow the evidence where it leads instead of assuming he's right from the start. It seems to me that your militant view of this story robbed you of a beautiful emotional journey.

Faust Feynman or, maybe you can think about this in a different way? You see, science knows how things work but doesn't know why they exist at the first place. As the definition of "Atheist" goes, - "those who not believe in deities". In that sense, even I am an atheist. I don't believe in the GOD that people have defined. I believe in that thing from where science comes, in the reason for why it all exists. For there are many secrets that science has just begun to know.
