Hey, I was the second developer in the video. I sadly didn't use my time efficently to create the game in my mind :(. It was an exciting challange. Thanks a lot for letting me participate in this.

For a second I forgot I made the first game. It felt like a gameplay review 😊. Working with godot for the very first time wasn't very straightforward. Figuring out where things are relative to unity was a lot of stress. Also, I didn't find much available tools in godot compared to unity. One of the major factors of game making is getting your fundamentals right. When you have your fundamentals intact, a change of tool is something you can always easily adapt to. Overall, the entire experience was interesting for me because I finally got to work with another game engine. Though I couldn't accomplish all that I initially had sketched out, I'm pleased with the outcome 😊. For now, I won't consider switching to Godot but I can try a couple of more projects in it.

I really love the first game. Considering that person had to learn fast and came up with a 3D escape room idea shows that you don't need to know everything about Godot in order to use it long as you have your fundementals in check.

Exactly, even if there were reused assets...you still have to work within Godot's system (nodes, GDScript).

Thanks 😊 A lot of my development process actually happens outside of the engine and on paper. When you have your game designed, you can always pick the specific parts of the engine that helps you achieve what you have in mind and based on my unity experience, it was quite easy to do a Google search of what tool I needed.

@@shegzy6061 I'm starting to understand that now. It makes it a lot easier documenting how to you want your project and mechanics to function rather going off of your head.

I currently find myself in a similar situation. Only it's been over a year since I last touched Unity (or any game-engine/programming interface) and I was never that great to begin with. Anyway, I do quite enjoy Godot so far (though I've only created a third person character controller). I really like some of the quality of life features and quick start-up time Godot has.

Sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right tool for you. That could be Unity, Unreal, or Godot. All are amazing tools when you think about what it used to take to make games, even like the ones in the video.

@@stayathomedev Hell, the Quake engine was magicical back in the day (it still kind of is in a way) but to have that for free today and with graphical features that even offline-renderers couldn't pull off 20+ years ago is insane. Still, if my first (and only) game is any indication, no matter what tool you put into my hands, it'll turn out terrible.
