I really enjoyed your reflecting of the factors that can play into the enjoyment (or lack of) of playing games.

Splendor was one of my firsts as well and still works so well for me. So smooth and people can pick it up so fast. 🙂

Also, the reason I like Azul and Splendor is the awesome feel of the game pieces 🙂 The games are good, but should they be with cardboard pieces, my life would be incomplete.

The tactile nature of games makes game pieces so important to me. Does that mean I have to shell out extra money to upgrade the pieces in my favorite games to acrylic or wood and metal coins? Yes 🥲 but it's so worth it

I loved Skip-Bo growing up, but I'm remembering the fun of playing it with my grandparents. I kind of wish I'd learned some more card games from them, but the memories are what I cherish.

Agreed, Rococo Deluxe's insert is trash. One of my favorite games, and one that I need to get back to the table again soon. Splendor is still in my collection because it is so easy to teach to non gamers. It's rarely one I'd choose, but it's always a good time.

I remember hearing on the R&R show a while back that you were living in Halifax; is that still the case? I love the video by the way and the reflections you've had on how board games should facilitate fun, even if it might not be your type of fun.

@@floen I was there for the shows talked about at the beginning of the video, but my current home base is Toronto for now. Definitely could see myself moving there in the future though, just would depend on a number of factors

@@RoomandBoardReviewsThanks for the update. I live in Halifax, so it's always surprising to find out a board game KZitemr lives/has lived in this not-so-large city.

Playing "old" games is something that my group are doing with conscious effort. There is often no reason except recency bias to not replay them. That said, these games have been played often and some people know they either don't like them or aren't really good at them. So you have to manage relative to the group a bit more. New is new: nobody has historical problems with new....
