These are the first notes I played today. I've been having some issues with my microphone setup, so I thought I'd just record a short sample to check it. As soon as I started, I entered the flow state and played this improvisation that has some elements that don't usually come into my free improv -- things like chromatic harmonic progressions like secondary vii°7 chords.
What I'm noticing about letting my hands go where they want, is that my ADHD allows me to wander from style to style -- to not worry about making a single improvisation internally coherent from beginning to end.
This one start with some spacey sounds, then goes to a Keith Jarrett-style pan diatonic style, then heads right to mid-19th-century piano harmony, influenced by Schumann lieder and Brahms intermezzi.
I'm beginning to accept that my brain engages with lots of different music and the "flitting" from style to style is not necessarily a bad thing -- it's actually a reflection of who I am as a musician, and everything that I have experienced, studied, heard, and played -- all reflected through my life experience and mental state at the moment.
Негізгі бет I pushed record to check my mic and this came out... [ADHD improv 91]
