You won’t believe how often actual film equipment was used as sci-if prop, most of the stuff just looks like weapons or just military tech. In Aliens they mounted guns on a camera stabilizing vest, in spectral they used large cameras for energy weapons, the technology we use to stabilize cameras on camera-cars or helicopters is derived from a system to stabilize guns on tanks, same for widescreen lenses, those were first used for wide & sharp tank gunners sight. The battery connectors used for some electrically assisted weapons is the same we use for connecting lights…

For those asking about the colorful diagonal lines across the screen: they are not present in person. They are a "rolling shutter" visual effect/artifact. A modern camera does not capture an image all at once, it "scans" the image from top to bottom. CRTs also create an image by scan from top to bottom. So normally, if you match the frame rate of the two, you can capture a pretty still looking image, because they are both aligned and scanning top to bottom. However, KZitem shorts are vertical, and to capture a vertical video, I had to rotate my camera 90 degrees. So now the camera was scanning from right to left, while the CRT was still scanning from top to bottom. This misalignment of the two scanning directions created the visual artifact of the diagonal lines. You can learn more about this effect by searching "rolling shutter".
@richardwattior
Жыл бұрын
genuine question - why not just film vertical video with ur phone? a newer iphone would look just as good as this video quality (in my opinion, i truly don’t mean to sound like a pretentious dweeb lol)
@ShankMods
Жыл бұрын
@@richardwattior For the most part, newer phones try to do everything "automatically" and do not let you dial in the settings as much. In order to film a CRT, you need to manually adjust settings to synchronize the settings with the refresh rate of the CRT. So like framerate and shutter speed. If they are not matched, the CRT will just flicker like crazy and not be visible in the video. I cannot for the life of me get good photos or videos of CRTs with my Pixel 4A camera. Phones still use a rolling shutter, so the same issue also applies. Most phones will likely have the shutter setup for the landscape orientation, so if I have the phone in the portrait orientation, it will still be misaligned with camera. The only real solution would be to film in landscape and crop the sides of the video off, which would result in a VERY low resolution video.
