@@rikk319 These are two totally different scenarios. Aragorn correctly stated that the orks didn't want to take over Rohan, they wanted to kill everyone in this country. In this case, you have to fight for your life. But the trade federation didn't came with the intent to kill everyone on Naboo, they just wanted to get a new planet under their control. The queen could've ordered the guards to fight against the droids until the end. But in this case, there would've been fights in the streets and the capital city would've been bombed, resulting in many civilian deaths. So she made the decision not to fight in the first place and call for help later. Sometimes it's better to surrender if you can't win a direct fight. In WW2, Denmark did the same when Germany invaded them and spared their people a lot of suffering.

You people forget how difficult is to prepare for a parade, it takes months of rehearsals and practice, an army can't just decide to have a parade the next weekend. Not only the drills have to be perfect, the uniforms, the weapons, the vehicles, the regimental flags, even the head of state and the brass has to rehearsal weeks before the parade, the speeches, the command voices, the places they take on the presidium and the movements they make.

I was there for this parade in 2009 (the PRC's 60th anniversary), and have several in-laws (my wife is from Manchuria) who have served in the PLA infantry, and it is safe to say that mechanistic precision in marching and drill is essentially all they train to do during their time in uniform.
@CSUnger

That’s what I was wondering. Thanks.
@chouyi007
6 ай бұрын
@@CSUnger Oh yeah, it's not treated by its government as a real fighting force except for a few elite units, but even they do not have the mindset of even the average infantryman in the U.S. military. Mostly, it is a tool for parade ground display and secondarily as a crowd-control and dissent-suppression force, for which the precision marching and preened uniforms are helpful as a deterrent. For all but the most elite units (I have one in-law who was in their version of Delta from the '80s through the early 2000s), it is actually a government jobs program. If one has done two years of service in the army, one is guaranteed a cushy, do-nothing civil service job for life, and so getting to be a PFC is a real prize. My aunt and uncle paid the equivalent of $30k US in bribes just to get their son - he was intelligent, in good shape, and had no record of bad behavior of political unreliability - into the regular army, so he would be set for life. He loves to talk about how all he did was eat three square meals a day, practice formation marching, and only really take anything seriously when some party official or general came by the base for an inspection, always known weeks in advance. The older relative who was in the Scouts (their army special forces unit) had done a bit more serious training, but even what passes for that there is not much. Basically, only the best units ever even practice force-on-force with blanks, which was the most rigorous part of their combat training. I also learned that marksmanship is barely even considered, and the standards for a Scout in rifle marksmanship are significantly less than Marine rifle qualification. Also, a huge limiting factor is the equipment, as their 5.8x42 ammunition is steel cased and in addition to being made with wildly low quality standards, even the bullet jacket material, for example, differs greatly between production lots. The rifles are also not capable of serious accuracy, even if some factory were to produce high-quality, brass-cased 5.8 with a tight-tolerance match bullet. For the purposes of what is essentially a Roman Empire that has never disintegrated, and which is intensely inwardly focused and prioritizing keeping its huge population docile and afraid, though, the Chinese military serves its intended function quite well. The attempts to show force and intimidate serious, professional militaries from countries like the U.S., though, are laughable, because that is not what the PLA is set up to do, just as the U.S. military is not set up to crack down on dissent and keep the domestic population in obedience to the central government.
