Spoke to Paula Pant several years back. She was offering her real estate mentoring on an incremental basis on some platform I can’t even remember. I just remember feeling so dejected. She came on a bit late and after I mentioned that I worked at a non-profit and didn’t make much money, she got off hastily a bit early. I felt like I was completely blown off. I don’t recall receiving any real advice for my time and money. I wish her the best and am glad she has found continued success. But, this is a reminder to be kind. Treat people with respect. Even if you can’t help them or don’t have good advice for their situation - say that without being dismissive. Everyone’s time and business is worth your respect.

keep in mind that the opportunity cost for her is much lower...its harder for someone to leave a $90k or $100k salary to start a business because they are trading the salary + benefits (healthcare etc) in exchange. trading $23k salary is a much "easier" decision from that perspective in the sense that if it doesn't work out it's easier to jump back in to another job at this salary level. it's not as clear cut but something to keep in mind. I think there's a trend of people seeing this and jumping ship but this might not be for everyone. if you are burned out in your current role, starting a new business (which is arguably more prone to burnout) is not the solution

@@K-wx6ki I need to address your original comment as well. Opportunity cost is an interesting criteria. Let's say I'm out of college & I get a $100k offer, entrepreneurship with no prior experience & NO SAVINGS & student debt is a very high cost & risk decision. Difficult indeed. But if someone's mid career, with $100k & been financially smart, you are in a much safer position & hence much "easier" for you to start a business than someone with $20k. They're struggling, have no savings, no safety to fall back on. You seem define opportunity cost on wants and luxury rather than actual needs & struggle. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is where her journalism background shines. In her Ask Paula episodes she approaches questions by explaining how to think through various options seldom giving a definitive answer, so that the caller needs to weigh the choices she helps lay out. She also is accompanied on these podcast episodes by a former financial planner. The podcasts are free for you to listen to, though of course there are sponsors. She read Rich dad Poor dad for sure: There were certain, seemingly harmless things rich dad refused to say, one of which many of us - including poor dad - tend to say without blinking an eye: "I can't afford it." Rather than stating, "I can't afford it," rich dad would ask, "How can I afford it?" "One lets you off the hook, and the other forces you to think," Kiyosaki writes. "By automatically saying the words 'I can't afford it,' your brain stops working. By asking the question 'How can I afford it?' your brain is put to work." "'I can't afford it ' also causes sadness, a helplessness that leads to despondency and often depression," he continues. "'How can I afford it?' opens up possibilities, excitement, and dreams." This doesn't mean you should buy everything, he emphasizes. The point is that you should constantly be exercising your mind, coming up with creative solutions, and thinking how can I make something happen, rather than I can't make this happen. I forbid myself from saying, “I can’t afford it.” I have disciplined myself to ask instead, “How can I afford it?” Asking myself how I can afford something opens and challenges my mind - to think. The words we say to ourselves and the words we believe are the most powerful forces in the world. In my experience saying, “I can’t afford it” is what poor people say. That is why they are poor. There is a difference, I’ve found, between “broke” and “poor.” Poor is a state of mind that we all have the power to change.

Must be nice to just decide to move to the USA ..... I am sure Mexicans and others South Americans wish they could just move there. The fact is that she had numerous advantages that 99% of people don't have. So yeah, not that impressive. She decided to travel the world....... ok, yeah how many people can do that without a job? Her parents had money, connections, and if you have that, that's 99% of the struggle for most people.

The Market has been pretty bad until today it decided to surge. Everybody was Practically Crying then. It kept dipping. That's what you get when you feel you can navigate the process on your own. Big thank to Hilder Ferguson. I'm not bothered with how bad the Market is because my assests are insured due to her advice and I still receive my profits

One thing I admire about Indians is their ability to communicate to people in a way they can easily understand. When they want to say something their facial and body expressions are also more vocal compared to other ethnicities. I guess that’s why they are more successful..especially abroad.

How to get rich? Start youtube channel and wear expensive clothing. Even gets some high quality fake watches and rent some super cars to pretend you own them. Then air bnb a mansion and pretend you live there. Travel around different countries and sneak into top hotels to pretend you are staying there (secretly living in cheap hotel) Create a course on how you have a secret quantitative method to get rich for $195. Boom you are rich.
