I left one Fortune 100 insurance company to go to another back in 2003. I expected they would cut me loose after I submitted my two week notice since I was going to a competitor but they didn't. Instead, even though I had been an exemplary employee for six years, most of my coworkers spent my last two weeks at the company treating me like I was a traitor--being openly hostile towards me. On the Wednesday of week two, I left for lunch and never went back. It was the best career decision I've ever made--I left a company with a toxic corporate culture, the company I have worked for since leaving makes employee engagement their first priority.

My brother had been a tv news reporter for 10 years and he was great at it, but he went in one day and just quit. He went to law school and now with a couple buddies, he has his own firm. Dude is my hero, takes a lot of guts to pursue a dream like that.

Wow, kudos to you! I didn't quit my job, but I stepped down as Division Manager of a major corporation for the same reason. I accepted a job making $12-$13 an hour to the amazement of my family and friends. What I found is that as the salary increased, so did the immense responsibility. Like you said, life is too short. WoW! WoW! Im torn listening to you. I’m a physician and I worked so long and so hard to get where I am. We have two kids who are seniors in college and working allowed me(us) to financially prepare such that their education is fully funded and beyond. There were hard times doing both when they were little but I made it work and I have an amazing relationship with my kids. BUT… I’m 60 and I’m living my best life now but I’m starting to feel I could LIVE even better if I retire. I have a wonderful job, I’m well respected and my schedule is mine to make. I’m so grateful. This is where I feel you..I’m getting close and I can do it whenever I want. The joy on your face is magical. You did this with such class.

“You will never get back the years that you miss with your children.” Good for you. I’d rather be there for my kids than a job. At a job, almost everyone is dispensable. No matter how good of a boss you may have. They don’t care about your life. Money is important, but it’s NOT EVERYTHING. I’d rather be a mother that is present for my kids... not the babysitter, not the daycare and not their teacher. Celebrate your freedom!

Hi Cindy! I am usually a background watcher of your videos and when I saw this video pop up I clicked on it so fast, because this is what I’m planning to do when our baby gets here in November. I’m in my early 30s making plenty of money, but I have never felt more unhappy in my life. My husband actually quit his miserable corporate job in February so he can completely change his career to be a freelance web app developer, and I’m planning on leaving corporate for good after my maternity leave. I have older friends who were incredibly shocked to hear my plans but I have no interest in pursuing a “career path” I don’t even enjoy by sacrificing my time with my family. I found your video incredibly motivational and I hope this new journey makes you and your family happy 😊

I’m happy for you that you said “no” to what isn’t working for you. Enjoy those babies!!! Time flies.

What courage! I relate to you. I quit just last year my 10-year career at a previous company (at the height of the pandemic, which was just crazy!) for almost exactly the same reasons you've mentioned! There was a lot of back and forth in my mind about it but now, I DO NOT REGRET IT! I prayed about it and made the right decision to quit. It was a toxic job even more so when we started working from home due to Covid and I was miserable. The day I quit, it was like a great burden had been lifted off! It was just the best feeling! I was then able to get another job later on with much less demanding hours, great flexibility plus a potential career...something I never ever thought existed! It's still sort of like a 9 to 5 job but one day, I will gather the courage to quit completely and do what I dream to do which is be a stay at home mom ❤

I love how happy you are!! I actually just quit my job 2 months ago and was able to take a month off to just heal and spend more time with my partner. I had climbed up the ladder in my old corporation very quickly and had put my life on hold to fulfill their needs. I am happy to say my partner was patient and loved me enough to let me immerse myself into my job. But I am happy to say that one day it just clicked for me and I took my key off and handed it to my superior. I walked out of my job that day feeling better than I had in years. I always thought I would feel afraid of the unknown as I like you feel secure in having control, I am pleased to say I took priority in myself and now have a team and boss that knows I am going to put me first and they support me. Thank you for sharing your story!! I hope that anyone seeing this feels understood and supported!

Very happy for you! Just a word of caution, hopefully you will not take it as a negative comment😃 I left my corporate job to be home with my kids. Fast forward 15 years and they are grown and pretty much out of the house. And I feel completely displaced. It’s nearly impossible to re-enter the corporate world with such a long gap( at least in the world of accounting/finance) and it pains me to see all my “working “ mom friends having well paid , established careers while I feel pretty much kicked to the curb. If I could do it over again- I would probably not make the same decision and may be find a job that will allow for better “work life balance “ but not leave completely. Hopefully this will not be your case- especially because you have this great KZitem channel which you can keep working on. So you can feel fulfilled! Best of luck to you. 😀

Congratulations on stepping up in life! This is a major decision Cindy, not everyone can be brave enough to leave a full time job and yet what's important is that you're happy and doing it for the family. I'm a medical professional and decided to quit my job few years ago just to concentrate on having kids and taking care of my husband. Told yah, it's not easy at first, there's a lot of challenges just being a Mom and staying at home and taking care of everything apart from the fact that you see your colleagues at the height of their careers and miss your job once in a while. I guess am not really used to domestic life but being a stay-at-home Mom atleast for me is the most challenging yet gratifying job ever in my entire life that's why I have high respect for women who set aside their career and stay home to take care of their families. I'll be back soon in my profession, like you, covid made me think about life's priorities. This time that my kid is big enough, I am needed again in the hospital to serve our people. It feels surreal to start all over again after long years of hiatus but I won't trade my life when I was there for my child when he's growing. It's the best feeling. So goodluck to you, I know you made the right decision. Family first, you can always go back to your profession whenever. As long as masaya ka, nandito lang kami supporters mo for you;) Mag artista ka na kase! Bagay sayo!;)

Congratulations!!! I'm also in the process of trying to leave my current job to find something that is fully remote! I'm also taking this as a sign!💕 Hopefully, it will happen sooner than later! I'm sure your kids will enjoy all the time you will be able to devote to them now and you will get to fully enjoy the life you have created and are blessed with! #BeenReadyToQuit

Deciding to take that first step is always causing mixed feelings but one should always follow the heart, it is that little voice inside that eventually leads us to the right direction. Life is about priorities and there are just some things that time could not turn back for. At the end of the day everything is a process that we need to undergo for a better tomorrow.

That is amazing news! You go girl! You and your family deserves this and you won’t regret it. There is always time to “work”, but your kids are only kids for such a short time. They are worth your time and those beautiful memories 🥰. Congratulations!

I am glad you have family that supports your decision. You will miss your corporate job after a few weeks or months, but you will forever be grateful for your time with your kids. They grow up and change so quickly.

Good for you! You are making history, one of probably millions of Americans who are demanding more of a work-life balance from their employers. And you will enjoy spending that time with your children. The time when they are little does go by so quickly.
