I don’t think anyone has answered it yet, so regarding your question about whether (bodily) fluids can ruin a leather chair, the short answer is yes! If it’s fake leather, moisture will absolutely accelerate how fast the fake leather will start to peel and break down, and real leather can get stained, warped, or outright damaged by excess moisture. So Jafar’s concern about his chair was, in fact, quite warranted! 😂

One of the tricks in media law if you’re *bending* the rules is to make it so embarrassing, no one would take you to court over it. Like if you made a character based on a real person, you would make the character so horrific they wouldn’t want anyone to know it was based on them. In this case, it’s simply not worth Disney’s time to prosecute. They’ll get bad press by having their name associated with smut. They also aren’t losing any money here-they’re never going to monetize this kind of material. It was a smart move on Katee/the publisher’s part.

Regarding the House of Mouse, I *think* she can skate on these because none of them are actually original Dis creations - like, Hades is from Greek mythology, Jafar is from 1001 Nights, Peter Pan is in the public domain. @@ReadswithRachel I think if she had a deal with them, she wouldn't have changed the spelling of the names. And I find it very unlikely that she does have a deal with them due to the fact that they have their own line of adult romance novels. Unless she has been contracted to write one of those or has said herself that she has Disney's approval. Otherwise, she's just violating copyright. And while that might not seem like a huge deal because Disney is so big, it really opens the door to violating smaller creators' IP. That said, really nobody seems to care in the romance world when people are "inspired" by stuff they don't have the right to play with.

I just cannot get behind the whole "my father sold me to [insert sexy bad guy]" premise. I can suspend reality for just about any other premise, and go along with it even if it's outlandish. But any contemporary book that begins with a grown ass legal adult saying "my dad sold me..." just makes me roll my eyes. No he didn't. He can't. Not in this universe, at least. How is that legally possible? I am going to have to see the legal paperwork and the state and/or federal bodies that approved this transaction. And if there isn't any, then it’s human trafficking. Also, hats off to the author for the whole element of "consent" and safewords, but why does Jasmine have a safeword. You mean to tell me Jafar is super cool with buying other human beings and murder, but draws the line at not listening to a safeword?! Ugh!!! (who is an interesting figure in his own right btw, his memoir the _Book of Travels_ provides some insight) The Middle East had a long oral storytelling tradition, and it's unsure where Hanna Diyab heard it from. Perhaps he was influenced by the Tang dynasty wuxia tale of Kunlun Nu (崑崙奴), or even his own life story.

The thing with Christianity... Most not all, especially stricter sects they emphasise its the woman's job to satisfy her husband.... Like consent isn't necessary. It's even in some of us' cultures making it worse... Plus the whole verse in the bible saying submission is needed from the wife: and people abusing it to further their agendas... Yeah

No but my first Dad crush WAS Aladdin's dad. Like I never saw Aladdin as a crush. He was just kinda... a jerk? But holy sh*t Aladdin's Dad is so... that man is just; whole series is justified with just him, the Genie being the Genie because we love him, and adorable little Sultan.

Kind of sounds like Katee's books are the kind where you have to turn off your brain to enjoy them... no thanks! Really enjoying your review though. :D

The heck did i just listen to? The book sounds... I mean, nothing against other peoples kinks, but to read it on pages, listen to the audiobook. I had to stop. Through all of the sex and uncomfortable ,,flirting,, i didnt find enough of a good plot for me to continue reading after capter 3.

I binged a bunch of Katee Roberts over winter break (I don't exactly think the books are good, but they are weirdly compelling), and the worldbuilding absolutely breaks my brain. Basically, I think they are set in our world, but Olympus is somehow separated by a magical (or technological?) barrier that makes it difficult to go in and out. Carver City and Sabine Valley are not separated, but the rest of the United States just ignores these super fucking weird cities run by BDSM crime bosses. The crime bosses never do anything too terrible on page because they're the sexy characters, so they gave to be less evil than the other crime bosses but not visible evil enough to put the readers off. Does any of this make sense? Absolutely not! I didn't catch that Carver City Hades is the dad of the one in Neon Gods, and this makes everything clear as mud. 😂 Not gonna lie, Chuck Tingle's worldbuilding is much more consistent, although it also breaks my brain for *other* reasons. I feel like for erotica you have to either use an established setting or actually build a world and plot for it so it becomes a regular novel but with a lot of sex. Katee Roberts kind of splits the difference with a semi-familiar setting with confusing changes pasted on, which is deeply confusing for readers who pay attention to the setting and want it to make sense. (That said, I do like that so many of her characters are bi, that in the m/m/f romances all of the pairs within the triad have a developed emotional connection, and that consent is a clearly established thing 99% of the time.)

Look, I fully understand coming up with a fanfic and thinking “hey, I have a pretty good plot here; maybe I could rework it into an original story!” If one goes that route, however, one should maybe change the names to lower one’s chances of getting sued?
