I loved this book, it really shows the power of a book and what it can do. How real the characters felt, how invested you get, and opens up a world of life we never thought possible. That’s what books are about bringing a different perspective, people have horrible traumas and some people have little to none but it’s nesscary to understand we all have different lives and that we can work to understand how that affects us. Such a good book, every character had such a powerful purpose

I worked as a Judge's Assistant for a while and let me tell you... Jude's story is not entirely uncommon. Not in the precise details but in its severity. Real victims like that don't get to close a book. I think this book is incredible and I'm genuinely offended by people calling it trauma porn because that insinuates that this book, it's content, it's too disgusting, to horrific to consume. So what are you telling victims when you say that? Hollywood does a great job watering down scenes to make it more digestible for the general public, but those experiences exist in its purest, uncensored form. There SHOULD be at least one book that offers that, and this is it.

I am a sucker for a soul-destroyingly sad book now and then, and A Little Life takes the all time prize for me. In that vein I recommend (with all the asterisks possible) Hanya Yanagihara's newer book, To Paradise. It's not quite as bleak, but you definitely get some of the same feel of hopelessness and self-destruction.

I’m so happy I read little life years ago before it was known and hyped over online. I was drawn to the title and cover in a used bookshop haha I expected to be a sad story but damn. I feel like such an odd-one-out for my opinion on A Little Life. I DNF'd it around 600 pages, but it wasn't because I couldn't handle the story or I was too sad and heartbroken, I just didn't care for it. the story didn't do anything for me (I didn't cry once and I'm an emotional mess all the time) and I got to a point where I was wondering why I was reading it to begin with. definitely just isn't my genre but I appreciate it for the light it shines on its subject matter

I'm not so sure I agree with if he had been with me being realistic, I know it is a common trope to have 2 characters madly in love with each other and neither of them realizing it is reciprocal, but it was too painfully obvious for even an awkward teenager not to notice especially from her perspective and the fact that she had a passion for writing and books, the author didn't properly portray that from her perspective she could have been getting mixed signals she was just oblivious for the sake of the plot. It is easier to imagine a world where magic and monsters exist than her not noticing.
