TheNormalOddball 😑 now this is the second time im trying to grow back my natural hair the first time was back in 2014 .I got relaxers for about 2 years tbh I didnt like it my hair was soo thin bcz my aunt used to put relaxer on the whole lenght of my hair . oh not do mention the damn burns . I stop relaxed my hair for about 1 1/2 year at that time I didnt know what the hell i was doing tbh, I couldn't do my own hair .so my fren used to comb my hair for me she wanted to give me sew in bcz my hair was thick and box braid took long to do. so she ask me if she could relaxed the leave out so I said sure . after I took out the sew in I realized that was a stupid decision so I just relaxed the back part about 4 mouths later . I relaxed my hair my self the second time around and it came out exactly how I wanted it but then i got tired of the straight hair look . I used to try and get my hair to have some kind of curl to it . my last relaxer is one October 2016 I'm hoping I would be able transition for 2 years

Yeah it's like when people say going vegan is expensive. It's only expensive if you buy expensive food. Just like natural hair, it's only expensive if u buy all the expensive products. It's not a necessity to buy those fancy name brand products. Just get u a jar of hair grease for 3 bucks, some oil moisturizer for a dollar, and some 2 in one shampoo and conditioner and be done with it. You can get all that from the dollar store. People make things like veganism and natural hair seem expensive because they do the most.

I'm a natural newbie and it has been the best decision I've made for my hair. The perming and heat damaged my hair and it was thinning. There has been so much to learn about natural hair and how effects how we see ourselves. I like this me better, I feel freer and I love my hair kinks and all! Wish I had done this years ago.

My first concern being natural was how big my hair was. But there are so many beauties out there on pinterest and youtube that I fell in love. My husband and my friends love it. That helped a lot. And now that I know I can actually blow dry and flat iron my natural hair and it's tamed and beautiful even more, I am happy. Good vid.

This video touched my heart! I can totally relate to everything you said in this video. Going natural and accepting my hair is about so much more than "just going natural". I too have been (and partly still am) struggeling with depression, anxiety and distorted body image. And accepting my hair is definitely one important step for me towards recovery. Hearing you say, that going natural helped you with your struggles honestly gives me so much hope! Thank you for this video!

It is so refreshing to find a channel like yours! I loved my natural hair when I was younger, then got a relaxer and lost my identity. But I got used to it fitting in with the "ideal" of straight hair as real beauty and started believing it myself. It's only until recently that I wanted to cut off my relaxed hair because it was weighing me down and making me feel like someone elses ideal of beauty and that my love for crazy, black hair was wrong. And I hated hating myself for that, so I'm with you it was an identity change that I wanted and why I big chopped. And it's still hard because with my fro I feel insecure and empowered at the same time, so I can't wait to get where you're at and really love the hair I was blessed with. No matter what society or even I have said about it in the past.Thank you for sharing this an know you are touching people!!! Love this and keep doing what you're doing:)

I totally get it. I'm 2 years natural in March and I'm JUST understanding my hair and learning what products work for me. I greyed early so going from a long black or brown weave to salt and pepper natural hair was beyond a huge adjustment. I wore my hair out (coincidentally when grey hair became the trend a couple of years ago). It's been way more positive than I thought. Even though my hair isn't the biggest or longest, people love it and look at me as being brave. Who knew?!?

I started to think about going natural after Chris Rocks's Good Hair came out. I was trying so hard to have really healthy hair, skin, nail and all that The movie made me realise what relaxers really were. Like most chemicals they damage your hair in a way. When all of my white friends used chemicals like dyes they always used special products on their chemicals changed hair. I didn't do this because I didn't realise how relaxers changed your hair. Also around the time The Walking Dead just came out and I started watching the show Lost. So I started to think if I was in this situation (without relaxers, makeup, spankx, and other modern beauty things) would I be pretty. I went natural to find out

Hi, off topic but your eyebrows are perfect :-) I have had natural hair most of my life and relaxed hair for a few years only. 2.5 years ago I big chopped my relaxed hair but I knew exactly what to expect. I also have a channel where I share my journey. Also I am not A.American I am Congolese/French so for me that's just hair... And I am always VERY surprised when I hear about those emotional journeys. It took me a while to get it as the culture on that subject between black living in the USA,Europe, the West Indies or Africa... can be very different!!!! But I am glad we have KZitem to hear and at least try to understand all of those stories. So thank you for sharing!

lmao. This was great. I can relate on the depression part and how being natural makes you think about your health. It's so much work and I basically have to start over because the deposit shot stressed my body out and lost alot of hair. Still I wouldn't change it for the world.

I went natural because the maintenance was too damn much. The cost, my hair was thinning badly due to breakage, and my arms were tired from flat ironing. Also my hair and scalp was extremely dry and itched like hell. Also burns. I ended up getting some bad burns around my hairline that were crusty with yellow puss. Now it's been a year and a few months since I cut it all off, but at least two years since I stopped screwing my hair over. I'm much happier now!

In that entire school, I was the only one rocking a fro and trust me, there was a lot of black females lmao. I was stated at, petted, and complimented surprisingly. I love being natural, I'm not as on it as I should be, but I do what I can. Having psoriasis of the scalp does not make it any easier, that's for sure lmao. Love the video!

I have been natural since 1998 it was nothing cleansing or spiritual my kinky twists locked into my hair and I had to cut them out nothing more or less. If the core of who you are is jacked up then your hair, how you dress even the motivated message one may speak is moot.

Actually, it is much easier for my to manage my natural hair than my relaxed hair...We are led to believe that relaxed hair is easier, yet it's not that simple...I had to blow dry and flat iron after washing it which was a pain...With natural hair, I don't have to "fear" water.

I never knew my true hair texture until I was 16-17 when I first went natural. My mother relaxed my hair at a young age, I was 5-6. When I first went natural I was in denial about my curl pattern..I wanted to think I was 3b/3c soooo bad. When I finally realized I was type 4, I became so upset and straightened my hair...now I'm working hard to repair the damage I wanted to grow out since being relaxed. lol p.s my goal is to have the biggest fro too.

I was forced into going natural, due to medical reason. Anesthesia and my relaxed hair didn't mix. It started to shed extremely bad! My curl pattern is very very tiny curls and it KNOTS UP EXTREMELY BAD!!!. I HATE THAT!!! It is very tight and my length does not show at all! When I stretch it out or blow it out it starts to shrink back before I finish blowing it out. So, for me, I PREFER MY RELAXED HAIR and will be going back to the creamy krack😜 This is not to say I won't go natural again. I will try not to if I can help it. IT'S TOO MUCH WORK IN BEING NATURAL!!!!!😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
