After shooting professionally for over 20 years, and owning more equipment than I can remember, I’m down to one camera. My 26 year old M6 and a 50 mm F2 lens. It’s probably all I ever really needed. Great video, very different, thanks. Rick….. 🌴

Great shots! And a great idea to rent it. Now you know for sure what to expect and if it's going to deliver what you're hoping for.

Thanks for the video. I have never rented any photographic equipment; therefore, I enjoyed sharing your experience. I shoot an M6 with the following lenses: 90mm f/2 Leitz 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss 21mm f/1.4 Leitz

Moved from a CL with a broken meter to an M6 last year, the switch was so worth it! The peace of mind of having an accurate in-camera meter was huge. Happy shopping Chris!

I truly LOVE LOVE MY M6, the metering is what made me go for it instead of the M4. Sweet shots here. My ABSOLUTE favorite is the one @9:01, just PERFECT and BW. AWESOME capture.

Really liked your video. And I really like the shots you got. I’ve been shooting large format (5x7, 8x10, 11x14) for the past few years, but just recently started using my M6-TTL again. (The industrial neighborhood under the 6th Street Bridge over the LA River is a great shooting location.) The internal meter on the M6 is amazing. I haven’t used an external meter once while shooting with the Leica in the past few weeks and my exposures have been great (I do sometimes compensate by looking at the scene and thinking… this shot needs two stops more… or something like that.). I got an Voigtlander 50mm f/1 which I’m having a lot of fun with. Anyway, I’m looking forward to more of what you shoot.

Your M4 does everything an M6 does, been using mine for 7 years. I’ve owned an M6 and MP and wasn’t impressed by the meter, for me the best film M with a meter is the M7.

Chris, way to go Mama! That mirror shot with you and your little was great! Great images and the video was really well done. I believe you've already sold yourself on getting an M6 but as a huge M3 fan and former M6 owner, I'd suggest you look into getting a cold shoe light meter. Lime 2 or the reveni labs meters are great. But I think you are already set on an M6. ;-)

I prefer the M4 to the M6. In my opinion, it is a better built and more solid feeling camera. I find the built in meter on the M6 to actually be more distracting than using an external meter. I usually take an initial reading and make subtle adjustments if the light changes (if it is a dramatic shift, just take a new reading)...over time, I have found that it has trained my eye and I reach for the light meter less and less. I also prefer the aesthetic of the M4. Just one elegant engraving on top vs. the three mentions of Leica on the M6. Enjoy your M4, it's a beautiful camera.

...I purchased an M6 brand new in 1986 - it is still in regular use with my two MPs. The M6 replaced my long-retired M4 and has *never* had a single build issue. Re: the M6's built-in meter, there are whole bodies of work by professional photographers out in the field (and indeed amateurs) that are testament to its efficacy. Of course YMMV.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Loving the Baby Selfies! Good for you! Glad you got to try it out. I have the same internal argument all the time about whether or not I should buy one of these. For now I’ll settle for my Canon 7S (the poor man’s Leica, LOL!).

I got the doomo D meter for my M4 and it’s been accurate and fast, have been trying to shoot more without it recently and just to pay attention to the light and learn to use sunny 16 but I get that it can be frustrating.

I certainly hope you have been able to get into your new M6 and taking many photos. I have not had any complaints over the years aside from learning and remembering to turn it off and protecting the batteries. It’s something you’ll learn to do, but I know many a new M6 owner has had complaints about this issue. I still keep plenty spares of the Enerpe 2LR44. It’s a two battery pack that’s connected. They’re inexpensive and easy to replace. Happy shooting!

Before you pull the trigger on an M6 I strongly recomend looking into the M7. I was also under the belief that the M6 was the only Leica to buy and with all the KZitem over hype on the M6 I didn't even think twice. Fortunately when I went to buy an M6 the store had an M7 and once I tried the M7 the M6 was no longer even a consideration. The M7 is everything the M6 has and much more. The fact that you don't have to keep chimping at your shutter speed dial and are abble to see the shutter speeds right in the viewfinder is huge. Also, it has Apreture priority that makes shooting incredibly easy and the viewfinder is antireflectent just like the new Leicas. Yes it does have battereis but the battereis have now lasted me over a year and it can shoot at a few diffrent shutter speeds without batteries. In the end the M7 is so much more bang for your buck and offers much more useful features that are handy for the craft. The M7 just has the essentails that are really used by a photographer. Forgot to mention it also has exposure lock when in apreture priority, I use this feature all the time.

It’s Baxter!! What did you do with Jason???! 😂 I love my M4 but the 6 is definitely more convenient. However, when shooting street, I find that I prefer to meter surreptitiously with an external reflective meter, then bring my camera to my eye and shoot quickly. Your B&Ws look really good.

My M6 currently has a dead light meter ‘cuz *someone* didn’t use it for a couple years, during which one of the batteries started leaking. So for now I just use an external meter. I’ll get it fixed but for now it’s okay. The thing I really like about the M6 is the extra framelines. I didn’t use to like ‘em at all, but more recently I’ve got into the 28 & 75mm focal lengths and an M6 is just the thing for ‘em.

Don't overlook the M5. Much cheaper than the M6 and has a great meter! (some say better than the m6). Physically larger in the hand and you can't use collapsible lenses unless they are never collapsed. People just rap tape around the barrel of the lens as a reminder...easy.
