Thank you for making a video of the learning struggle. One day when I have to this with my old kiln sitter (new to me), I will be coming back to this.

My kiln had a couple "relay" intake boxes that were incorporated with the ends of the elements I think that makes it more confusing. I used to get a hot cone 5 in 12-13hr and now I get a hot hot hot 6-7 in 5hr way different life now!

I bet that changes glaze reactions tremendously.

Way to go! I recently changed my elements in my Paragon A88-B and AA-8B top section. I replaced all the wiring while I was at it, and replaced most of the bricks in the top section. I had the same problem you did with the old coils breaking, and had some damage to the bricks. But I also had a problem getting the new elements seated properly. In fact, I broke one of the new elements adjusting it after it had been burnt in. That sucked! But, yeah, you're a big girl now! Yay you! Great job, and thanks for sharing your experience. Did you do a burn in cycle? I was told to fire the kiln empty to a cone 05 before putting anything in it. It seals the elements and makes them last longer (provided you don't try to stretch them after they are burned in!).

Oh darn, that stinks to break a new element! I did what my supplier said to do. Run it to 300 to burn off residue. Then load it and run a bisque fire. It all seems ok by doing it that way. I’ll be starting a glaze fire tonight hopefully.

Thanks for sharing your project. I came upon a small paragon kiln that has no elements. It’s been sitting next to its big sister kiln looking lonely and unused for several years. I’m gathering the courage to update the mini, and truly appreciate your video to help get going.

lol definitely. I want to say it took 2-2.5 hours. Which isn’t bad, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that hard getting the elements out.
