@@Addison0526 Because showing off for competition > longevity of joints for a lot of people. Thats why a lot of Olympians end up crippled or unable to move without severe pain ND endless surgery by 40 years old. Training like that to do those things destroys your body, no matter who you are. Its a flaw of biology. But if you have good form and don't over exert its not as bad as people think.

@@tweedledee5850 No no no I meant the compitetions themselves my bad. Like, the Olympics became a thing to show off how good a countries athletes were. I articulated that poorly, that's my fault. A lot of the exercised and activities done in the Olympics are INSANELY bad for your body, and a large number of Olympic athletes get permanent life long damage just from training for them. Gold medal winners tend to require life long scheduling of surgery as well. Micheal Phelps was talking about all the damage he had to have repaired and still has to get fixed. And how many of his peers can't even walk or stand up without chronic pain because of the training for these events. That's what I meant not so much the exercise itself.

It's common to hold at a particular stage of a lift and rep there. Take snatches to hold and squat reps for example. Or clean to power press reps. Or hang above the knee to snatch reps. It isolates a specific part of a lift and can help balance out your game. I'm fascinated by the technique and flexibility this sport takes.
