I used Excel from the time it became available in 1985, and retired 3 years ago. I grinned through this entire video because I've used these methods so often they became second nature. Alas, I don't get to use it anymore [and I loved it] but will check out your other videos anyway. Am sharing with a former coworker who I taught a few of these to. Boy I miss using this program....I'll just watch you when I need a dose of Excel fun because that's how I looked at it - using it was an absolute blast. Thanks for sharing, very well done!!!!!

This guy is way above what I can do in Excel. Respect. For finding a number above a certain value, I simply highlight the column and hit Sort. At the value needed, I highlight in ascending or descending order. This is an awesome video by a true expert. Excel is far more powerful than most of us understand. Thanks!

If you don't have Excel 365 (or 2021) you won't be able to use the SEQUENCE function to generate the numbers 1-100. Instead, you can use this formula: =ROW(1:100)

As far as i know you dont even need any formula to do that. Just fill like 3 rows with numbers in the sequence you want (like 1,2,3) select all of them and drag it down like a formula. Excel automatically tried to predict your sequence and gives you the numbers.

Conditional formatting slows down the excel sheet by a lot when you are working on huge data. Instead, if you want to delete use "Remove Duplicate". If you want to know the duplicates then add a column next to the data and use "Countif" condition. Wherever there are duplicates you will get the count more than 1. This way the excel file will not add unwanted size and lag the file.
@chandoo_
Жыл бұрын
I like the "remove duplicate option", but disagree on CF. Unless you apply CF over 100,000s of rows, it shouldn't slow the file down. If anything, the COUNTIF() trick might actually be slower than CF.

I am following Chandoo dilligently around year and a half now, and I can note that the content growth is amazing and inspiring since i am learning a lot myself. The adjastability to consumer needs is up to date, easy to follow, adjuatable to feedback. Me vs Boss trend is greatly done, the format is nice, i would suggest since this is a tik tok 🫰 format to try to reduce the length as much as possible, not necessarily in minutes (i would suggest 4-5min top) and just divide the content to include up to 3 ideas in one video. For example I would cut this video in formatting tips, and adding blank rows,2nd one for reports pivot tables and adjusting charts in another sheet and a third one for dates in excel or the sequence formula. This is my pov as the new generation wants everything in seconds and i think thats the target audience for this series. Lots of 💕

Thanks Tina for that comment. I am always experimenting with content format, length and topic coverage. My analytics tells me that 5-10 minutes is the sweet spot. Shorter videos can't cover anything in depth or breadth. Earlier I tried 3 tips in 3 minutes video, but the response is nowhere near as good as what this video got. As always, I am running the do → learn → change a bit → do again cycle.

There is an alternative for SEQUENCE. Just fill in the first two cells, select both cells and drag (lower right corner of the selection) down. Excel automatically will fill in with increments choosen by the two cells. This works even with months by name (Jan, Feb .... filling in Mar, Apr ...). Btw. don't mess up numbers and strings. Allways use strings for identifiers, accounts, telephone numbers. You never sum up telephone numbers.

I loved this video, you came up in my recommends and i dont know why however,…. Litereally i do need help learning excel. So here is some questions. I do volunteering as a secretary/treasurer for a very small non profit group. How in excel can I input the expenses and income from donations for the balance sheet, in a way that excel does the math? So every time i have an additional item(s) added to a category i dont have to re-add everything by hand, just the program does it so i can input it into my balance sheet by category for our meetings? Oooh hey does excel have the ability to even create the printable document in category form? As in for income we have things like fundraising, grant 1, grant 2, grant 3 (we list them by source) donations, membership dues, entry fees etc and expenses we have categories like merch costs for the fundraising items we sell, coffee tea, lunches, judges, prizes, bursaries etc. we are a small organization that does a competition every year so we have categories, and some categories can have 44 items all added up together (competitor entries and then prize moneys paid out) . So on the balance sheet i want to just have the totals by category listed (like entry fees, or prize money paid out as a total) but i need the master breakdown of the whole category items for accounting oversight reasons. Like all the receipts etc. can excel do that? I am not a tech savvy person just doing volunteer work and hoping to make life easier and more accurate. Loved this video, very helpful and the way you described each thing with humour kept me awake. Otherwise i’d have glazed over and fell asleep 1 minute in. This was awesome! Thank you. :)
