Shane now in phase two you have to give your dad a whole house water shutoff if the water sensor goes off and my dad was a tech geek in his day I wish he was still here to see all the things you can do now with your smart home. Remember everyone enjoy these opportunities with your parents because one day hopefully a long time from now the opportunity will no longer be there. You’re a good man Shane, taking care of your parents and your grandparents. Enjoy doing it together God bless you.

I love your videos. Setting up this type of stuff gets me excited, I love the Apple ecosystem. 😊 Just curious, why didn’t you hard wire the doorbell on the garage, I would think that would save them from having to worry about recharging the battery? What happened to your arm? I hope you recover quickly. EDIT: I saw your reply below.

I'm interested in which smart bulbs you used or would recommend for remote management in a parent's home.
@ShaneCreates
9 ай бұрын
I actually don't use many smart bulbs personally. I wouldn't want to use them in a parent's house either unless it was for a lamp/figure and there is no wall switch (otherwise they would flip the switch and kill the smart bulb connection). If I did use them I would probably go with Nanoleaf Essentials (affordable, connects via Thread, no additional hub) or Philips Hue (but only if there are a lot of bulbs since it requires an additional hub).

Thanks for watching! If you are controlling other Aqara products, like the lightstrip as I have in this video, it's super easy in the Aqara app. You can make the button "toggle" another Aqara device on a single press. It's not as easy if automating other HomeKit devices in the Apple Home app. When setting up your button automation, you have to "convert to shortcut" and then use an IF ACTION: IF the light is on, turn it off. OTHERWISE, turn it on.

Merci beaucoup

Thanks Nick! At my grandpa’s house I just used smart plugs on his lamps and then automated them with Aqara buttons. He uses lamps mostly. I didn’t do any lighting (other than the Christmas tree and lightstrip) at my parents’ house. Not yet. @ShaneCreates
10 ай бұрын
Apple Home currently doesn't support kitchen appliances like Samsung yet. Hopefully with the Matter standard, that will change in the near future. Most people who want to integrate products (that don't natively support HomeKit) into Apple Home will use HomeBridge. It's a little more advanced than your "out-of-the-box" solutions but it's not too hard and is probably the best way to accomplish something like this.
