Crossroads actually would have paid more for the 4 items they wanted ($40.20), compared to Wasteland ($37.80). I usually sell my stuff at Crossroads, then take any leftovers to Buffalo Exchange, and then donate anything left to Goodwill. This was a great video idea!

@@wiildn I'm in San Francisco & have been trying to reduce my wardrobe by half over the past month so this is obviously a great way to make some cash & not be wasteful. We've got all the same stores here but after visiting my Parents last week up North in Wine Country I discovered my first Platos closet. So today I started at Crossroads then hit Buffalo in the Mission & drove the hour to see my Mom, while they went for their after dinner walk I drove 5 minutes & dropped off what was left for a quick $40 at Platos Closet which isn't much but considering they were the last stop & pretty much emptied the bag I'm stoked!

Love this video & the concept❤ Although, the title really should state that these are consignment shops not vintage shops, since the clothing items sold aren't 20+ years old. I would love to see more in this series! Especially including online consignment shops like ThredUp.
@MeganSaidThis
3 жыл бұрын
ThredUp is a joke, nobody should sell to them honestly. They reject a ton of stuff and then pay like 20 cents per item, lol. Plus I have bought from them and they mess up on descriptions often. They listed items with the wrong sizes 2x, sent me an item with paint smeared all over the back and that same item they said was a polka dot dress but when I saw it in person it had the overwatch logo, which from a distance in the photo looked like a polka dot. I also got a stained shirt. I have given them too many chances already and no longer waste my time, rather just donate my stuff, tbh.
@emilyl3169

@@MeganSaidThis While I do agree that their original selling/pricing model was predatory, I have tried it again recently and I think it has improved. Now it allows you to adjust the selling price of your items before they are listed. I sent in two boxes this summer and have made over $200 so far off of those boxes. they did mess up on the photos for one of my items when they listed it, but I contacted them and they revised the listing. While you can definitely get more value selling the items on Poshmark or at a local consignment shop, I like the convenience of ThredUp since I don't drive. I'm sorry they have messed up so many descriptions/condition reports for you when you purchased, I haven't had that experience but haven't purchased anything from ThredUp in the last couple of years. I understand that your experience may be very different than mine though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I’ve sold a handful of items at both crossroads and Buffalo exchange in the Chicago neighborhood of Andersonville. I’ve noticed that Buffalo exchange usually has wants more “edgy” clothes while Crossroads wants more “preppy” styles. For example I tried to sell a red outdoor voices hat to BF and they didn’t want it, while CR did. I think it definitely does depend on the sales person working on if they take your stuff. I’ve heard that if you bring the clothes on hangers or in a garment bag they make take it more seriously bc it looks well taken care of. There might be a great shirt in that trashbag of clothes but it feels like rummaging through the trash.

As a guy though, I felt like they were more lets just say "judgmental" about the fashion and the state that each piece was in (even though everything was washed and folded). I decided to just recycle (H&M or Zara have good programs) or donate my old clothing since then.

I used to do this back in the 90s way before it was trendy & I used to wear nice dresses & suits. Shops didn’t pay up front, you got your money at the end of the season, you had to make an appointment & they would only take clothes for the upcoming season, not current. They also had to be dry cleaned so if you took them in the dry cleaning bag you had a higher chance of them accepting, but of course it ate into your “profit.” My best selling items were from a chain store called Casual Corner. I loved their office clothes. I couldn’t ditch Coach purses for anything! No one wanted them. Office attire has become way more casual & non existent with WFH, so I just donate what few items I buy now. 😂Having said all of that pointless info., I enjoyed this piece. I guess it brought back memories! 😂😂😂

I've heard they are more likely to take items if you bring in less...maybe something else to test

I went to Buffalo in Berkeley once, and sold something for a very fair price. Not, sure but believe they have a style they are looking for if you fit this then they pay more I'd sell online now hey have whole high end fashion apps selling old tennis shoes from in someone's closet you found!

I'm picky! I have 4 or 5 Coach bags, & Dooney & Bourke that are all like 15-20 yrs old, & I don't want to sell a $200-$350 bag for $20, which I was offered. So, I'm keeping them!

Does Cali not have Plato's Closet?? In the mid west thats the only place i know to go in person to sell my clothes...they dont tag them right there but they will make you an offer on what they take and why and why they didnt take the other stuff...idk what that the percentage is on what they give you is but I have sold my clothes there over the years and they take a decent amount if its in season and in good condition..... I also sell me clothes on Posh Mark a lot bc I noticed I can make more but yes... Its time consuming... And Posh Mark takes a fee but you set your own price on items... So..

That’s kinda messed up that they don’t want to give you a quote and let you decide whether or not to sell your stuff. Like in what world would you sell it without knowing what the offer is first?

Clothes have value in the US. We can never resell them where I’m from.

Wow wee in Australia we have nothing like this if we donate clothes they just take them all I have never been to a place where they sort through them and not take them unless they are damaged in any way of course. But anyway really amazing content been following your channel for years. ❤️❤️

My sis just dropped off a ton of clothes including BCBG, some still with tags on them...will Wasteland offer more $ for clothes with original store tags still on them? Thanks for the super informative vid!
