I didn't realize taking things slowly was so uncommon. I've made the Shell Phone on every single playthrough I've done of this game, purely because I enjoy being methodical and taking my time, doing everything I can before I move on. Not only do I always make a Shell Phone, I also 1. Always isolate the evil biomes by making hellevators (usually with dynamite just to be safe). 2. Always make Terraspark boots. 3. Do the fishing quest at the beginning of each day. 3. When Hard Mode begins, I find the newly created Hallow and Evil biomes and isolate them, too, again with dynamite. This results in big diagonal tunnels and a ton of deaths, but is a lot of fun regardless. I've done four playthroughs on different worlds with different characters and each one clocked in at over 100 hours because I just... enjoy spending time in Terraria, I guess. I'm glad you too have seen the benefits in taking things a little slower!

The only thing I hate about this video is knowing that something similar will take ages. Well done and great job, my biggest "issue" with Terraria is the wiki infection, having 20-50 tabs open because you go down a rabbit hole of what you want to do - but that also leads to (at least for me) avoiding anything "unnecessary" (aka anything that could still be amazing/fun/great to know, but takes too much effort to explore). I've seen a ton of things in here I didn't even know about and is really useful

How to fish up hardmode armor instead of getting random corruption, plus mechs and pirates wildly spawning after you destroy an altar guide: Step 1 - fishing boxes, lavaproof tackle bag, angler set, golden fishing rod, master bait, crate + fishing potions and spam as much as you can just catching any time the bobber moves Step 2 - Obtain anvil, upgrade the furnace, and keep farming for those titanium crates Step 3 - Wait for rain, use a yoyo or box with 2 wide gap hole to kill 3 ice golems. Step 4- You can shimmer Titanium ore into adamantite ore, so you need to hit 46 adamantite bars, with 3 ice cores from previous step Step 5- Frost armor, the best pre mech armor for rangers and melee, and you dont deal with random pirate invasions/mechs spawning.

If you can't afford a thumbnail artist then you should make your own thumbnails. Incredibly disappointing how willing some creators are to completely disregard and throw artists at the wayside.
@Throarbin
6 ай бұрын
I'd love to hire an artist and I have made several attempts at finding one but have not found anyone who can make anything close to what I'm looking for. I only use AI art for videos in this series as they have become the defacto style for the series and that happened because nobody clicked on any of the other thumbnails I experimented with. I did have one in particular with an artist's work but the video flopped up until the point I replaced the thumbnail with ai art. The whole ai conversation is much more than just "ai art bad, human art good"
@DuncTV
6 ай бұрын
@@Throarbin If you can't find an artist in the Terraria community of ALL communities then you are plain simply not looking hard enough. That is a ridiculous excuse. AI art is exploitative of the artists it's trained off of but beyond that, thumbnails are one of the most blatant examples of unethical use of AI art. You don't get to use AI trained off the art of others to profit and then lecture someone else about 'the whole ai conversation'.
@Throarbin
6 ай бұрын
@@DuncTV Well I have made several community posts, forum posts, requests in my discord, and a request in the Terraria sub reddit for an artist and have gotten zero replies with maybe 2 exceptions. Both of which were fine artists but weren't able to reach the style or standard I needed. One was frankly pretty low and other, although I loved it, performed terribly. And I wasn't lecturing you on the ai conversation. I'm just saying it's more than a simple good vs. bad. For one, there's the general question of "if you weren't going to buy the thing in the first place are you really taking it away from someone?" Meaning if you could never afford an artist and so found other means, does that take away from the artist you never would have been able to hire in the first place. That's an open discussion that I'm still not sure where I land on, but it is one. As for ai art being trained on other artist's work, that brings up the question of, first, whether or not the model used skimmed the internet and took everything or used a library of images the company paid for and licensed. Are models trained from art specifically paid and licensed for this express purpose ethical? What of the internet ones? Does ai art "transform" it in any way? Does it matter if it does transform it? Plenty of artists copy or simulate the style of other artists. If copying the style is the problem, then is that ethical? If a person takes ai art and then adds several edits of their own to suit their needs, does that make is acceptable? How much can be ai generated? Can ai give a base from which to go from? Or should ai not be used period no matter what under any circumstance? In the end it is here to stay and we'll have to figure out how to navigate the whole situation. I appreciate people who do have a strong stance against it and I understand that point of view. I started using ai for the thumbnails of one specific series when all this was still quite young and it has become the style of the series that people look for. If you know of any artists, I'd be happy to meet them.

@@Throarbin I agree, it is more than good vs. bad. What I'm saying your example is bad. You are using this AI art for profit, for your business, AI that was trained using stolen assets. If you cannot afford to run your business then you shouldn't be in business. You aren't allowed to steal assets/supplies/tools just because you can't afford them. AI Art is inherently exploitative when trained on the art of others without consent. If the model is trained on licensed work or work made by the owner/user of the model that is completely different, ex. the Spiderverse movies used AI. I'm a full-time video editor and I use AI when I use the AE rotobrush. An AI pulling from a database is not the same as a human being copying someone else's art, and even then people tracing/copying art without credit is pretty frowned upon. There are cases where AI as a tool is fine and ethical, but replacing artists to make thumbnails is not one of them. If you have a genuine interest in finding artists to work with put in more effort, reach out to people, post to Twitter where there is a pretty big art community, and offer a reasonable rate. I work with artists regularly both in my own content and the content I edit for others. Hell if you make a post I'll boost it for you, help people get in touch, etc.

@@DuncTV Well, I don't know if I'd call this channel a business as much as the thing I do to keep myself busy, but I guess I am making money 😅. I don't have really a twitter account, I made one very recently but just to deal with a whole different situation. But I can make another community post and see what happens if you want to point some people to it 🤷♂

Great video, I'm loving it so much, but something stuck out to me. It's the assertion that "other mods will often buff vanilla weapons to keep up with their modded things", which is something I've only ever seen Calamity doing, since it's considered bad practice to do so among most mod devs, simply to ensure a basic level of compatibility.

I don't know why, and I don't even play Terraria, but I'm really enjoying this series. It's such a well-made video to have made me watch it all, even without Terraria knowledge 😭

my respect has risen so high in this video, as a person who beat the game in one month, i could never see myself being in a world for one year. ill think ill try it next year

Yo! I'm only at the start of the July part rn, so excuse me if this was solved later in the video. I believe the glowing crystals problem you were having could be solved by a better textured block, painted how you like, with activated gemspark walls behind the blocks. Since the activated walls glow, it gives the effect that the blocks in front are glowing!

Your idea with the floating base was really cool, in my world i have my biome specific npc’s on floating islands themed as their respective biome. So seeing someone else do something but with their own base made me happy

I used to not like building but what got me into it was just to start doing it. once you start building you begin to learn techniques and styles eventually you look up block pallets and have missions to find and collect the resources you need to make a build. Also drawing (even shittly) what you want to build will help with inspiration and drive you to complete it!

The ability to fully fine-tune the amount of pressure Terraria puts on me has kept me playing at least 3 times a week since 2015. Pure bliss.

This is what I look for in a terraria play through, it’s suppose to be savored and enjoyed like any good game. It has so much to offer it gets easy to overlook

Dude you just made me wanna comeback again I love the idea of going slow and not moving on fast. You tend to always get overpowered fast so it’s shitty but the fact is you getting items normal don’t and actually making the world change with all its builds is so cool

As a player that likes to take her time and constantly hears complaints about how i progress "too slow" and i "over prepare" I really appreciated this playthrough. Also my ONLY complaint was the episodes were released so far apart (i mean i completely understand with this format) that i'd often forget where you were in progress or forget to watch the new episode altogether so putting this altogether in one big video had to of been a lot of work but it's extremely appreciated.

I played Minecraft first, and when I finally jumped into Terraria for the first time I noticed something different later between my play-style and other people who played Terraria first, or preferred Terraria. My method of playing the game was very much along Throarbin's in this video. Taking my time and just building, exploring, gathering and just doing whatever little thing I wanted. I wasn't worried about following progression. Granted because I didn't know there was progression to do. Going in blind and not using any guides, except by word of mouth from friends, made the experience feel much more lively and lengthened quite a lot. I would go through the grind of resources, build grand structures and just play the game; not try to beat it. I enjoyed just playing Terraria and experiencing it. When I first fought Skeletron it was after several months of playing the game and just exploring and building myself up through mining and finding different stuff in the world, and stumbling upon it. Naturally I died, but prepared a bit, and then tried again, and the challenge and lack of knowledge going in was such a fun time. I recommend this method, for virtually any game, as it can bring such a different richness, then going in just to beat it. Not every game is marked a 'SANDBOX' game, but I go in and make it my sandbox game by taking my time and learning what the game has and using it to enjoy my time there.
