Relatives from the village constantly throw me antique embossed pillowcases and white sheets. They don't need them, but I'm happy to take them and remake them. Nowadays you rarely see such beauty.
Previously, you could buy similar embroidery at a flea market, but now you can’t. It's good that there is still white underwear left. I have a whole shelf in my closet of white sheets, it is gradually decreasing, but it will last for a long time.
The quality is completely different than now. The fabric is dense and soft, a little rough, but at the same time tender. One feels one hundred percent cotton, without any impurities. The sewn items turn out beautiful and cozy.
This is the case when old fabric reveals all its virtues and turns into a cute decoration for the home.
I will sew a decorative pillowcase. My pillow is 30 x 55 cm. I will make the pillowcase 2 cm larger on all sides so that it does not tighten the pillow.
At first the idea was to make 5 ruffles along the pillow. But then I remembered that I have antique cutwork embroidery. I will use it as a base, just the size allows it.
1) I cut out a 34x60 cm rectangle and placed the embroidery in the middle. From it in both directions I drew two parallel lines, every 10 cm.
2) I tore strips 6 cm wide from the sheet for ruffles. I turned the edges on both sides.
3) I laid two lines in the middle at a distance of 1 mm from each other. She pulled the lower threads and collected them. In order to have enough gathers, you need to take the length of the ruffle strip 1.5-2 times longer than the length to which they are attached.
4) Stitched it.
5) I sewed bandages from a strip of fabric 3 cm wide. I attached them in 3 places on the front and back of the pillowcase.
6) I sewed a flap to the back.
7) I connected both parts of the pillowcase and stitched on 3 sides. I sewed the seams with an overlocker.
8) It turned out incredibly delicate, like a bride’s outfit.
Simple elegance allows you to take a break from the rhythmic life and relax.
All the best!
