I love that you're still at this. You're showing what starting a business is really like. There are no shortcuts. You grind, you fail, you get back up again and you just keep going. Seriously, you're doing it. This is the way. You spot the flaw in what you're doing and you adjust. I find it helpful to look back at where you were when you started. You have the luxury of these videos. Go back and watch where you were a couple of months ago, it'll be a great morale booster.

To be fair the pressure washer and it's accessories do cost a lot of continuous investment and once we switch to autumn and winter I'm pretty sure pressure washing leads will dry up. He's right to want to pivot. I just wished he did it somewhat sooner then 7k in the hole.

@@DynamicProGamer Sure, once he started to get into it, the business itself was clearly not great for someone without the financial means to fund it from the start. The sunk cost fallacy and weight of constantly going deeper into debt will prevent someone from seeing or acting on this though. That said, I'm not so sure pivoting earlier at say the 3k debt mark would have been better. The pressure washing business is now at a point where he can start climbing out of debt or at least significantly mitigate the costs of pivoting. Earlier on pivoting would have just been starting over in the negative instead of from zero. Objectively that isn't a huge deal, but as things are now is much better for their mental health. Most importantly, pivoting earlier would have lost him a lot of experience. He might've just made similar mistakes and chosen a business with similar problems to this one at that point. There is so much he has learned and come to understand by going through the process of getting to where he is now, that will be a great benefit when he does pivot.

Hi Jon I have been really enjoying the series so far really shows the true cost of running a business, id like to give you some pointers which may help you. firstly Facebook is a great place for advertising services on a business page as well as joining community groups and posting your pressure washing services and this can mean you reach out to a lot of people without spending so much time physically posting letters each day. many pressure washing people price jobs per metre squared which means you are more accurate with your pricing and can actually net you more than your current structure of small medium large. adding a soft wash chemical treatment after can also help justify a higher price. from working in services based businesses, every day people want someone on the same level as them and big sales talk can be an off put. hope this helps you, looking forward to the next video. hopefully this may help

Happy to see the refocus on nearby neighbors pay off so well. It really is worth so much more when they can see the quality of the work. I think you are absolutely right to consider what an employee of yours will be willing to tolerate versus your own desire to make the business work. I think you both showed that the one man show can get the fuel it needs to continue and also shows that physical outdoor work takes it’s toll and if your plan is to get others on board with expansion, then are you truly ready to sign someone up for all the challenges you face doing the work and the risk of investing in the equipment for them. I am glad you had the difficult practical considerations talk as part of the process. If you stay the course or switch over , it’s a worthwhile conversation to have. Just going full steam ahead with bravado is how you run off the edge of the cliff. You have a partner and you can get valuable feedback, so why not take the time to figure things out and establish contingencies. I hope to see some progress against the debt in the next episode. Good luck and good weather!

I'm just gonna say this: if it were easy, everybody would do it. I like to watch your endeavors, and not for the fun of seeing someone struggle, but for the hope that they succeed even though it is hard! Having your own business, while also doing everything right (i.e. admin, taxes) is very difficult, but those who persevere succeed! My advice for your pressure washing business is to focus on the higher pay jobs, as the cheap ones are generally not worth the time. However, this is fairly seasonal (maybe not so much in the UK), so you need an alternative even if you like to keep doing this in the future. Also, pressure washing is not pension-safe, because it's continuous physical work :) No work - no money. You need something that builds up a stream of income for when the old age comes. Even thin streams of income are better than zero, just build as many as possible. Keep up the good work! Edit: typo

I always assumed, I guess wrongfully, that this was content focused to grow your channel/brand and not as much about the end results of this singular business idea. Yes it would obviously be great for it to be a success, but it seemed like this was more about the journey it would take to make a viable business out of pressure washing as opposed to the flashy KZitem click bait of "I made XXXXXX dollars starting a pressure washing business!!" I say all of that to say, if you are truly doing this for your livelihood, and not for the content (which has and I am sure will continue to be amazing getting to follow the journey), then please pick something that you are passionate about and not something you are just trying to make money off of. If it is content that you want to pursue, which does seem like it is a passion of yours, then here would be my suggestion: Continue to finish this project getting it to a place where it is profitable. Sell the basic infrastructure to someone to take it over requesting that you can still upload content for monthly/bi-monthly check-ins. Then start this series over with another idea you can track. However, for whatever idea it is, already start thinking about how long you plan on doing it. Have a clear exit strategy and start getting leads on someone that would be willing to take it over after you have done the hard work of getting it off the ground. You want to be in the business of content creation not of manual labor. Your job should be that side while letting someone else take over and grow the final product you've built. No matter what, appreciate you sharing the journey. It has been great to see both the highs and lows of this project.

I honstely think next couple of months will lead to a lot of people wanting drives done before the winter, and then you will hit a massive slowdown until spring. whoohoo a full week coming up! Exciting stuff! I really want to see you succeed, so iv a couple helpful thoughts. 1. Consider better gloves and ppe. the weather in the UK will change soon and you need to protect yourself. 14 years in land surveying i learnt the hard way! amzn.to/3YUnnAf these gloves are great for outdoor work. Sealskin do great waterproofs too, they are pricey but you will sweat less wearing them, and your joints and skin will thank you years from now. 2. Consider your endgame. What do i mean by this? Well most businesses, and i mean most, don't make the bulk of the money from the actual business. They make it from the sale of the business.Yes, having a big target to hit is a great goal to keep you motivated. But, maybe add on another goal, perhaps build the business to a position of say £200k value,or if your pulling in £100k per year income, then your sale price could be even juicier. You could aim lower at say £50k for a quicker turnaround. What would you need to sell something like this? A regular order book of contacts, so emails and pre pays. Not to mention all the equipment, which you have! Network and reputation is key! And it comes with a nice price tag if you want to sell that on. 3. Affiliate everything you do with links to buy the products you use. Also start making your ebook on ''Wash Away the Competition: Secrets to Building a £100K Jetwashing Empire'', because once you hit your target, there's going to be thousands of people who would love to know the details on how you did it, as it's a great little side hustle for many with a relatively small initial investment. Also i'd like to mention there is no shame on pivoting or even changing a business if you truly feel it's not working out. But, only do this once you have really given it a really good go at. You have loads of orders coming in now, so you have cracked that marketing code. As Grant Cordone would say, you made £1k so now 10x it, go for £10k. Now its about streamlining and saving cash, reducing time on jobs and also getting those bigger contracts. All the best dude!
@nicolaszytkowiak3195

Good to hear you actually read the comments lol! I definitely feel you guys are at an inflection point, and you can probably feel it too. The net business gain since day 1 is beginning to reliably go up, and now it's just a race against time to see if you manage to pay off everything before the due date on the credit cards. I agree with Kendra that this is potentially a valley of despair; life is a lot more pleasant when you're not in debt, and have a business earning, hypothetically, upwards of £100k ish per year (based off your calculations in a previous video). Honestly, it seems to me that you should've saved up money before starting the business, or, saved up MORE money than you have (I know you had that 1 month buffer). With seed money, you could've have a much better running start. Excited to see what the next business is going to be, you could do a video (or section in the weekly uploads) going over the plan. Have your viewers critique it, and change the plan depending on what feedback you get. This will essentially save you the harsh learning you'd have to do, the harsh learning you can see in the early videos of this series. Candor is the best part of your videos, so I definitely feel that's something you should lean into. It can also be of great benefit, so people can tell you how they themselves failed and stumbled, and you can take their feedback into account. As for feedback from myself regarding your content: - It'd be easier to read the final slide if you colour code the in/out (green/red respectively). As you add more stats (which I'm 100% on board with, like I said candor is the name of the game for this series), colours help you understand the info straight away. - I'd urge you to include more of your personal life within the videos. These serious talks with Kendra are insanely captivating, and open the curtains to what it's really like to run a business. - It'd be good for you to outline some of the admin stuff regarding what's happening: = Do you have a google account for your business? =Are you getting reviews on this, and if so what are they like? =How much money is being made (and re-invested) from YT? =How much of the money is from the initial release of the video, as compared to the long-term, slower, trickle in? =How much is your editor costing you? =Are you investing any of your personal money into YT? Aka, does the YT income cover all YT costs? =What's the schedule like for YT? =How far behind are the videos, compared to what we're watching? = How long does it take your editor to edit the videos? -I think you would benefit from interacting with your comments more. I understand writing responses can be cumbersome, but hopefully something like heart-ing positive comments would show you're actually there, with your finger on the YT trigger. -It's very interesting to see the life behind the business too. How do you guys sleep? How do you make food? What does the office look like (tour)? These might seem benign and boring, but you'd be surprised how interesting everyday-life can be for on onlooker. In general, I do want to let you know these videos are of insanely high quality, compared to how small of a channel you are. Hopefully that creates a rocket-in-waiting, so your channel should hopefully pop-off one day. It's visible in the videos that Kendra is stressing, and hopefully she knows her feelings are entirely valid. She's sacrificed a lot to enable the business and channel to grow. Hopefully soon enough she'll be able to reap the benefits of her sacrifice. I honestly think the moral of the story is to keep your chin up, do the work, and climb out. Once you have a successful (even if not growing) power washing business, you'll have the leverage, and personal-life-comfort, to begin strategising for the future, and entertaining your warehouse-related dreams lol. Thanks for the content so far. Me and the missus impatiently await the new episode at 13:00 every Sunday; it's honestly, fully candidly, the highlight of my week. Excited to see what will come of it all.

Make a website for your pressure washing business showing all the previous homes you’ve done to help get new customers. Then if it’s successful at attracting new customers, use the analytics from the website to show other small businesses in your area how effective websites could be in driving traffic to their businesses and offer to make them a website. You clearly know about the valley of despair that you are in right now. But now you are starting to make sales and get some money rolling, KEEP GOING at least until you get an employee and if you see that even then the business is crap, then pivot to another market.

How about using the experience you have gained in the pressure washing and outdoor services industry to sell the products people need to complete those jobs? Customer base could be DIYers and\or trade. Could start drop shipping at first and then hold stock in a warehouse type situation and work on your automation. It could be the go-to for people for these type of products.

Why don't you charge per square meter? Surface is what takes your time, energy and fue, this is the criteria to chrge and you'll be in a position to justify a higher charge here and there. Let alone that now you're seeing the job from within, maybe add an extra fiver or two per job, it won't look much to the customer, but 5 extra customers, mean £50 extra for the business.

If I were in your situation it would have been best to focus more on lawncare since you retain customers and grass always grows, no need to go trough all that effort to get new customers. You can also do pool cleaning + lawncare package every month type of thing. Web dev is not as stable as it used to be with square space and sharepoint making a simple website more accessible it just depends on the area your in, im sure you can make it work whatever you choose good luck!

i feel like you have a safety net which makes you able to make decision to buy new stuff without think twice hence I would suggest to work in very tight budget think as if this is the last dollar I have then should I buy the thing I want

Seems you have a decent businesses. If you can grow sales to £2k per week and find further ways to optimise (speed improvements)plus add in more lead gen like paid ads it will all feel easier. If you don't enjoy it ramp revenue to 2k a week then sell it to a gardening firm for 2x revenue or something

08:15 But why are you still not pre-treating with chemicals? Or using a surface cleaner? Either way, your Tenacity is encouraging. Well done!
