I am so glad you’re talking about this! Every other video I’ve found is only focused on bad prep at the reason for lifting. But I haven’t found one that talks about one specific client with problem nails, what the issues could be, and which products are best for the different issues.

yes!! i feel like my nails are too bendy and wool separate from anything, especially at the tip. when i greet tips i find that my free edge is able to be moved from the enhancement on at least one finger within a week and probably more and i do gel it’s the same thing, the nail moves, the gel doesn’t, they separate and then i have to take the whole thing off because i’m worried ill get water in it which causes my nail to be thinner and damaged

👏 thank you for both showing your process and what can go wrong and including things you are learning while humbly admitting you don’t know it all. It shows a true commitment to your craft and your continued education that you then pass along to the public. 100 points to whatever house you’re in!

I have terrible retention, nothing stays on my nails for longer than 7-10 days. I tried gel base coats, rubber bases, builder gel, nothing stays on. I do extensive prep work, I use dehydrator, even tried an acid primer (which I am convinced is the absolute devil cause it burns like crazy) and still nothing

It might be your lifestyle! I’m lucky to get 12 days but I lift, wash my hands/dishes by hand a lot, and hike. Now I just do my nails at home with regular polish and change every 3-4 days because I can’t take the chipping 😂 also changing my shape helped, went from square to oval and that lack of edge made a difference.

Hey! Nail tech here, i also have this problem with retention. I use acid primer and a hard top- such as acrylic or hard gel. Builder gel and gel polish are too soft and break/lift on people who have sweaty palms and fingers. Since i switched to acrylic and acid primer i don’t have the problem of lifting. Also look into how much are your hands exposed to water and oils- from dishes or just washing your hands. If you wash your hands every thirty min its an issue. When washing dishes or doing any cleaning in the house you should always wear gloves. Also my recommendation is avoiding creams for hands. If you do use hand creams, i would avoid the nail area, and put just around the cuticle area and not too much.

My God, I love you. You seriously explains so much yet so Simply I do my own nails at home because I had such bad lifting at so many of the salons I went to in my city since I’ve taken over. Yes, I’ve learnt the hard way with filing too much but now I use poly gel, keep my nails short and just enjoy painting different colours and styles rather than trying to outdo anyone with crazy long nails. I would read a book that explained about the chemical reactions that happens in different forms of gel, poly gel, rubber base, et cetera… so interesting.

I've had to add a layer of builder gel when working with a rubber base. You might want to try builder gels on top of a thin layer of tinted rubber base then coat the cured builder gel in the tinted rubber base for color. I found that there was no shrinking when a builder gel was added. Plus they give me more strength structure to the nail. I've had way better retention so far.

Me too! I just tried polygel for the first time and when I took it off, my nails were SUPER bendy and soft. Everything I look up says they may end up dry and brittle, but I feel like mine were the opposite. I could even scratch an itch without my nails bending like rubber.

Yes! This happened to me, i ended up switching nail techs as the last one would fall of my naisk within a DAY! they blamed it on my medication making my nails oily. My new gels last a whole 3 weeks with onky slight lifting, they explained i have oily nails (NOT caused by medication) and how that salon is known for using cheaper quality gels.

I had a client that no matter what I tried or used on her - I bought many specific prep liquids and bases, acidic, non-acidic, X Bond, protein bond, you name it - nothing ever worked. But she kept coming back because she loved the short amount of time she had with her nails when she got them done 😂 some peoples' nails just aren't meant for nails. Not many, but they're out there. Kind of like how some skin rejects tattoo ink or piercings or some hair doesn't pick up dye the way it should. Sometimes it just doesn't work.

Sometimes they need to take a break for a month so her nails can get air and hardenup a bit. Sometimes they have to much oil, i cant wear gel ever and now i can no longer wear acrylic. Since im in the business im just to busy doing nails than to wear them anymore. They get filed off when im filing so nevermind im over pretty nails on my self i will make everyone else pretty.

Can you explain the issue with acidic bases more?
@eileen58
Ай бұрын
Acidic bases work by making small holes in the nail plate, if you keep using them it keeping making holes and more holes and breaks down the nail making it thinner and more prone to breaking. So you can’t keep using them over and over because it’s causing damage to the nail plate.

What wrong with using acid primers, it’s required I used it on my self for 25 years, not an issue.
@eileen58

It’s not required, you can use non-acid based primers. A base is required, but it doesn’t have to be acidic. Acidic bases work by making small holes in the nail plate, if you keep using them it keeping making holes and more holes and breaks down the nail making it thinner and more prone to breaking. So you can’t keep using them over and over because it’s causing damage to the nail plate.
