One of the worst architectural decisions was to design the wettest, warmest room into a place where there are no windows and an insufficient extractor fan. Bane of my life in multiple hotel and rental accommodations. The wall stains look like damp/steam stains more than anything as a result. On a different note, the more I see your videos, the more I realise that places like Premier Inn have upped the affordable hotel game considerably, and many other traditional brands are now left behind, running their business on their old reputation only.

If you want to be impressed, stay at a Curio property. The Gantry in Stratford is a nice one. Hamptons have free breakfast, Doubletree buy up older properties and are quite basic, but you get a warm cookie on arrival. Garden Inn Hilton’s have outdoor space, and usually free parking. I highly recommend staying at Hilton Silverstone Garden Inn, it’s surprisingly cheap if you don’t go on a race day, or before a race day. You can get track facing rooms which are awesome and there’s even a real F1 car in the lobby, and next door in the shop. Back in the 70's The Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London was the business very luxurious. They had an amazing club in the hotel called the 007 which was of course James Bond theme and it was open to non residents as well as guests. Free entry, resident singers, friendly staff who wore posh uniforms and a great atmosphere. Only drawback was the price of drinks. Every drink cost 1 pound no matter what you ordered (in 1977 that was a lot of money). I remember starting rate for a room was 49 pounds a night. Way out of my league. Just enjoyed the summer of 1977 visiting the 007 club with my best friend every Saturday night. Great memories!

I work very close to that Hilton - lived in Bournemouth for 7 months now and although there are many tourists, I think that the businesses have become complacent. I’m used to working in London and having to keep 4 and 5 stars by AA or Forbes standards, whereas some of the 4 star hotels that brand themselves as 4 stars aren’t actually maintaining the credentials that would justify it, if there were to be an inspection by either of the awarding bodies. For instance, my reception team had to mention the guest by name at least 3 times during the check-in procedure for AA. My door staff had to use the guest name when greeting guests, those were just requirements for 4 star. I managed to work with my exec team and get one of our 4 star to 5 and the requirements were even more strict. Growing up, my mum was a general manager for Hilton and I spent many, MANY nights staying in the hotel when she had early business meetings, I remember the standards back then were exacting. It’s such a shame that now, these brands only seem to put that level of effort into their premium offerings.

I have been a Hilton Diamond member for 7 years but not for much longer!!!!!! Hilton's wonderful management decided to not have rooms cleaned daily and it shows. This is why the rooms are filthy and disgusting! Management is using COVID as an excuse but in reality they are saving money and pocketing it for themselves. The staff is also not happy. Hilton definitely has gone downhill.

You should,of contacted the front desk and asked the manager to come up and see how the roomed looked! Normally they would have apologised and offered you another room, often an upgraded one or at the very least offered you something to make your stay better.

This shower head is awesome. It seems to be a Methven Aio shower head, futuristic (~£60, you can get less expensive ones like the AQUA wave xjet or Triton Kylie shower heads) but it sadly doesn't seem to fit in this whole room. Always thought the Hilton is more pristine and glamorous. Not what I expected too tbh. Thanks for showing us around in the Hilton, they need to do a lot of redecorating to be the 4 star hotel they claim to be.

Ive stayed in Hilton, Doubletree by Hilton and also Hampton by Hilton hotels and they all are similar yet different. Ive found the Hilton hotels can be a bit hit or miss depending on the age of the building. Hampton hotels are often newer buildings with better facilities. The Hampton one by the ExCel centre in London is my fav, tho the bar area is on the small side and looks like something out of star wars lol My son used to work for a Doubletree and he said they always had issues with the cleaning staff as it was subcontracted out, not sure if thats still the thing now. Those walls tho were nasty! The room was nice but definitely showing its age .

That shower head was something else. I stay in a Hilton in Amsterdam and it was a fantastic experience. They even brought up chocolate waffles for my birthday.

I'm quite surprised the state of your room. I stayed so often at the various starred Hilton to have obtained the Diamond tier on their loyalty programme--to say I have never been in shoddy room as yours--always stellar service and clean, lovely rooms. You ought to have complained to have a room changed due to it being unacceptable.

Wow for that price you would expect the walls to be much cleaner than that. Another great video tim😊

Thank you, Tim. Another great video. Interesting how so many have different perspectives on how the coffee cups are placed. That other guy on KZitem who tried to copy your channel (and who, in my opinion, fails miserably) complained…in the only two videos of his I bothered to watch…about the coffeecups facing up. I can’t really decide. Then again, I don’t drink coffee or tea, and would never use a kettle in a hotel room even if I did. Once again, another great video. You are amazing.

Hi Tim, not art deco but '60's Mid Century Modern. In my young days Hilton was the top name in hotels. Sadly IMHO it lost that honour many years ago and is just mid range when it comes to quality. I would not have stayed in such a dirty looking room!

I stayed in the Hilton in Cairo, during the Arab Spring. The hotel across the road was fire-bombed by a mob. The hotel staff kept us safe. Obviously a very different kind of hotel, with apartments. The restaurant had lots of delicious Egyptian food, too.

Hilton is their mid market brand and within the brand they quality and price varies widely. Hiltons are generally large convention hotels. I am a little surprised that one isn’t flagged as one of Hilton’s more boutique brands as it doesn’t appear very large and it has more personality than most Hiltons I have stayed. They also have Conrad, LXR, and Waldorf Astoria which are more premium. For the price, it seems about right.

I think most people would be of the same opinion as you that Hilton is/was the name of expensive and top quality hotels. Looking at the room you have, though, it makes me think of a really bad paint job or the heat/condensation has built up in the room quite considerably and stained the walls, that and some relatively poor housekeeping. The room looks very comfortable, and the bathroom looks really comfortable too but I'm not enamoured by the lack of general cleanliness!

Don't let this hotel put you off. Most Hilton's are way better. I'm a Diamond Hilton Honors member so stayed in quite a few now. I stayed in this one recently and wasn't impressed. Also stayed in Cambridge Hilton recently and it was way better. If you ever get the chance to stay in the Conrad (top end of Hilton brand) definitely go for it. The one in London is really good (try and get an exec room to use the lounge).

Hilton need to focus a bit more on the condition of the rooms and lifts rather than putting endless mirrors in corridors and have a row of typewriters for no other purpose than decoration. I don't think stained walls are acceptable at any price point. That said £109 seems like a decent rate for a 4 star hotel on the south coast. Many years ago I stayed in a Hilton in Scotland and the communal areas of the hotel were very nice but the room was a bit plain and lacking in character for a 4 star hotel. The nicest chain 4 star I've stayed in was the Radisson Red in Glasgow. Room was £90 in February 2020. Could you possibly review a competitor to Hilton such as Radisson?

I stayed in the Birmingham Hilton, for about £200 a night, it really wasn't great, in all honesty. There was a member of staff roaming the corridors who was extremely unprofessional, shouting and swearing. Plus, it's the only ever hotel I've ever seen a mouse, running through the corridor...
