I do 3-4 minutes around 4-5 times a week at 40-45F. In the morning during the week after cardio I skip the day if I do a strength session due to the studies about effect on ice baths after strength work outs not being a net positive. I would like to do them every day but by the time I get home its too late for me to jump in as it effects my sleep if I do it too late in the day. On weekends I do them in the morning after I wake up and get moving before the kids wake up for the mental clarity more than anything. Great way to start the day before the chaos of 2 boys aged 6 and 3 happens.

I wanted to see you carry the ice bath back and forth a few more times. Haha. Great video Brandon!

just syphon the water out of it in your garage with a hose and a $20 pump from your local hardware

Or not even a pump submerge the entire hose cap it and stretch it out where you want it to drain.

Also what's that tracking app You're using to keep an eye on your recovery? Is that whoop?
@BrandonTalbot

Yup! I like Whoop cause I can actually track the effect of specific behaviors like doing ice baths. Nothing else really does.

How long is your typical ice bath session? And if a cold shower was the alternative, would you maintain the same time or extended to compensate for the less effectiveness compared to the ice bath
@BrandonTalbot

It’s about 4-5 minutes. The data shows you want around 11 min a week for cold exposure so I would assume it’s going to be the same for a cold shower

@Brandon Talbot Here is a thought...when it time to drain...can you stop up the Out flow from inside the Ice Bath and hook up a hose the the Out flow pipe to drain outside of your garage??

That’s where I am headed actually. Using some sort of a vacuum might be the other way to go, but more importantly I have time to figure it out and I’d rather be doing them than not doing them because I’m looking for a perfect solution.

wow. this sounds a bit like taking drugs. you had no problem. then you start doing the ice bath drug and you feel better. Now you are at the point where you can not stop anymore. not a advertisement for ice baths. :)

I think you misunderstood that completely. When you eat really good nutritionally dense foods instead of shit foods, you’ll feel better, that’s not drugs, that’s your body feeling better. I’m not addicted.

@@BrandonTalbotI think what they’re wondering is if you would be reliant on ice baths if you never started in the first place?
