This has been the most helpful resume video for entry level IT so far. I am still in school so I don't have much experience except in my labs. Thanks so much!

another question that sparked on my mind while ending this video is, while I have no prior IT experience, would listing that I installed 2x windows os version along with my Mac OS on my mbp count as a skill to list? [I haven't done this yet, but I am thinking about looking it up via KZitem on how to add multiple windows on my MBP]

+I.T. Career Questions QUESTION: I'm trying to change careers out of higher ed. into IT. On paper, I should be going for an Entry Level position (though I'm well versed in Linux, Python, Networking stuff, etc.,) however, I am the sole provider of my family and need at least a mid-level pay. Every entry level position I've seen would create a 7-8K paycut for me and that's just not doable. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hi I don't know if you've secured an IT position, but maybe someone else has this question. In my experience, experience comes from the tasks that you've successfully completed. So start listing your personal accomplishments such as setting up a secured network in your home, or installed and deployed Windows 10/11 on your Mac using UTM or Parallels. When you're doing labs for your certifications such as the CCNA, you can list that you've perform such tasks, used such equipment. Just keep practicing on those labs.

What section would you put, the things you are learning, the platforms you are using to learn and what certs you are currently studying for? Also, If I am taking college course towards a Cyber security degree, where would I put that on the resume? Thanks!

Wait. Customer service experience is relevant on a resume? I do account management for an internet payments company and most of my work is anti fraud and educating customers on phishing and internet safety best practices. That would carry over??

What can you recommend to someone who isn't that great with verbal communication?
@TacticalPower88

Work on your communication skills. Being able to articulate what you know is more important than actually knowing it when you are in the job hunting phase. Not judging, I can get better in that area myself lol

Try to get a job with customer service elements (basically every entry-level job has it). You'll be forced to interact verbally and that will boost your verbal communication skills over time.

I'd disagree about applying to any entry-level job you can, even if you don't meet the minimum experience requirements. Many online services just throw your resume in the trash if you don't have the listed number of months or years of experience in the method they ask for. I've applied to jobs and immediately been given rejection emails because on the box to type in years of experience, I typed in 0 instead of the 2 they asked for... and this was for an entry level job. I'd recommend lying about your years of experience in online applications just to get your application not immediately discarded. Just don't lie during the interview.

Please don't ever lie about anything in regards to potential employers, your resume, experience, skills, or education. This is the absolute worst thing that you can do. You won't know for sure if your resume/application makes it past an automated system unless you take the time and fill it out. I have heard of occasions hiring directors or mangers going through the rejected candidates because their pool of "qualified" candidates were less than satisfactory.

My only critique for this video is that you talk specifically about how to get into I.T. for the majority of the video and I think most of us wanted to see what it looks like on a word document instead of talking about. You should have a video dedicated entirely to editing a resume on a word doc or google doc so that people know what they are putting in.
