Welcome back to Lift Arc Studios! Formerly called "The Machine Shop". We are finally making build videos in our new shop/studio! Being that our editor Walker is now editing these videos in the studio, we needed to build him a desk, so that's exactly what we do in this episode.
Tay and Walker start at the whiteboard to figure out what the desk should look like and what it will be made of. Tay has some 2" square tubing laying around from his old metal table so they settle on using that for the desk construction, pure upcycling! After toying with some underwhelming designs, the guys settle on making an "X" shaped base that will support a 5x3 sheet of 1/2" tempered glass they picked up from Black Dog Salvage, a local architectural salvage company.
Being that the metal base cant be physically attached to the glass very easily, the base will need to be able to support itself. So the two "X" legs will be connected with a stretcher made from the same tubing.
Once the design was finalized, it's off to the races! The first step is to cut the tubing to size, piecing together the parts that make up the X. One long piece going from corner to corner, and two smaller pieces that intersect in the middle. Once the pieces were cut, it was time to weld them together! Walker, Tay's friend and video editor at Lift Arc Studios, has never welded before, so Tay thought it would be fun to teach him how to weld on his own desk build!
Thanks for watching!
