I purchased the Ice Barrel 500 about 3 months ago. I set up the water chiller and water pump to it just like what Maus showed and it is simply the best $2,100 I have ever spent. It is so nice having it in my home gym and I use it every day at 43 degrees and absolutely love it. If you are thinking about it dont think anymore....Buy it! Find Maus's video on how to set it up and do it. I am actually away on vacation this week and missing the daily plunge.

From a performance standpoint the IceBarrel 500 won wih only a 3 degree variance vs a 4 degrees with the IceBarrel 300. Also there is more volume of water in the 500 hence the higher temp.

Excellent video!! I’ve been wanting to see a test like this for well over a year. I just received my Frozin 400 plunge, hooked it up to the chiller. I had been using a stock tank DIY for over a year but the DIY insulation job wasn’t cutting it. The Frozin 400 was modeled after the Grizzly, so hopefully it’ll be good. Thanks for doing the work and getting these test results, very helpful information!

Might be a useful test if your goal is to use a little ice as possible. Volumes of each are different, so if you want to test which insulates and stays coldest the longest you should try to adjust amount of ice to the volume of each tub.

Great point! That wasn’t my goal. I wanted to see how cold and how long each got with the same $ spent on ice.

Hello sir! Been watching your videos trying to choose a plunge and am trying to decide between an ice barrel 500 or the Nordic Wave. Do you have any thoughts on one or the other? Not sure if you have tested or tried out the Nordic Wave! Thanks!

They are all awesome! Don’t know much about the team at Nordic Wave. I’ve seen the product and it’s cool, but for the money and what you get I have to say the Plunge would be top choice followed by the 500 DIY. That would be the best and most budget friendly way to go.

What up Derek!? Appreciate the vid. I’m currently in an apartment and will be for the next 2 years. I buy about 7 bags of ice and throw them in the tub but I’m really looking for a good chiller and barrel so now looking into the 300. Thanks for sharing!! Any recs on a good chiller?

Hi Dave, I’m in central FL and can’t find a place to cold plunge. I’ve decided to buy a portable. I don’t have a lot of room for it and will probably have to put it on the patio (not covered) What insulated portable do you recommend? Thanks!

I just bought my second ice barrel 400, I used your discount code, thanks a lot for saving me some money 👍 I’m designing a full insulated cover for the ice barrel that creates 3/4 of an inch of insulation, can be zippered on an off within 15 seconds and users will be able to choose a solid color or images like the American flag or slogan, or a Viking image .

You have any bubbling on the IB500? Just got mine this week and the lid has bubbling where the plastic wrap has bubbled up. Seems cosmetic but also kinda annoying for the price. Curious if others have the same. I also have some smaller bubbling on the side as well. The lid bubble is maybe a foot across though and more visible.

Wait the 500 had a 3 degree change compared to 4 degrees with the 300. What am I missing here? It cant be based on starting temp if the idea is to find what Barrel holds temperature the best.

@@TexasHeightspark The IB 300 holds 77 gallons and the IB 500 holds 94 gallons. If you put the same amount of LBS of ice into them...there will be a difference in temperature drop. IMO after 10 hours should have an asterisk since it was used by his family, but it's a real world use case. The inverse is true if you have people go into a larger volume of water for impact of temperature raising. (3 vs 4)

Just giving the info. I was looking to see which got the coldest with 56lbs of ice and stayed the coldest. Yes, the water volume is different and made a difference. It wasn’t really about a winner or loser but showing what each did with the same time and use.

Looking at the video it seems there are a couple numbers that are in consistent. I think the main idea still applies and liked the video a lot! The Ice Barrel 400 Tan at hour 7 was 77 from the video and the grizzly shows 69 but your board said 66 for only a plus 1 deg increase. I think the findings are still great and applicable. The different insulation values will end up making it significantly more or less expensive to operate either from ice or chiller.

The volume on the ice barrel 300 is much smaller so for the same amount of ice, less water, it is expected to start at lower temp and hold it better. Doing cold plunge kind of blew off your test as the plunges you started with are surely the ones who got more effect from your bodies temperature. I would bet on a like for like test on the Grizzly or the 500.

Love wife's idea on height difference. Heading to her channel after this. I'm 6'3".... can't decide what to do. I would get ice barrel 400 if it was insulated. I'd get ice barrel 300 if i knew i would fit. the Ice barrel 500 feels like overkill on space and cost.
