Soul knows no colour. Bobby not only sings this song like he wrote it - he DID write it. And a whole bunch of other songs he wrote for famous Black R&B, Blues and Jazz artists. He was also a multi-instrumentalist - who played every instrument on this song. A lot of young Hip Hop artists sampled his tunes. He was a helluva Producer, too - and would occasionally wander into others' sessions. He showed up during one of Jon Benet's early sessions - and was very supportive. He was an amazingly kind and gentle man - with a prodigious talent. He will be so missed among his fellow players. RIP Bobby Caldwell. You were loved. PS - His first pro gig - was as the guitarist in Little Richard's band . . .

This came out just a couple of years before MTV hit the scene, so if you wanted to SEE your favorite artists, you had to watch _American Bandstand_ or _Midnight Special_ on the weekends. This guy went entirely under the radar. He was published by TK Records, a label that had some prominent black musicians in its stable, and the execs deliberately kept his image off the album cover to conceal his race. Apparently _Billboard_ magazine named him the "Best New Black Artist" in 1979, only to find out a few months later he wasn't actually black. LOL! Growing up in Miami, with his mom as a real estate broker, he became friends with Bob Marley, who was one of her clients. Recognizing his raw talent, Marley introduced him around, and helped him get started. The rest is history... ;-)
