I'm 1000% here for this. Algorithm: ENGAGED
@KierenAmero
3 жыл бұрын
@David Hess To me, it's a meta thing, because KZitem is notorious for not showing content from creators you regularly engage with. For example, I listen to a good amount of ASMR, and if I begin to favour one creator over another, say by listening to and clicking Creator A's content two times over clicking Creator B's once, KZitem will stop showing me Creator B's content, because the algorithm thinks I've stopped watching them, despite the fact I'm still subscribed and have notifications turned on. Multiply my situation by say 30,000-50,000 people, and this can lead to less views on videos, which means less revenue for the creator, which could lead them off the platform entirely. Ultimately, what it means is that when people are early to a video, such as watching it within the first two to three hours of posting, they're likely to make a joke comment about engagement with the video, which actually has the added benefit of telling the algorithm that yes, you want to see more of this type of content from this creator.

Hori: you want customization? Here’s some shoulder buttons on your face! Also Hori: Don’t you DARE remap your B button!
@kubev
3 жыл бұрын
Oddly, an older version of the app (which was broken to the point that you couldn't remap much of anything) allowed you to at least swap the functionality of those buttons with those of the buttons labeled in the app. You could, for example, assign A to RT, and it'd put RT onto A (though it was unintuitive, since you couldn't see it happening until you backed out of the button mapping). It's baffling how bad and limited this controller is at the moment.
@null4814
3 жыл бұрын
I think the shoulder buttons on the face are less about customization and more because of fighting games. A lot of fighting games use a layout where there's 3 strengths of punches and 3 strengths of kicks, so you would have LP, MP, HP on the top and LK, MK, HK on the bottom. Basically the layout of the face buttons is like that to be more like the layout you have on fightsticks and less about being able to customize stuff.

The L3/R3 for the left bumper/trigger are used for most fight game training modes to reset the situation or other actions. its a good layout for a fight pad but the $30 fighting commander is a better deal for what you get, and they're built well enough to deal with being thrown in backpacks and stuff.

even as like a fighting game guy i was super confused about the default mapping, also the fact that for the first week-ish after release you couldn't fix the shoulder buttons in the software, like a button could only be either in its default location or swapped with one other button, so it was literally impossible to get to the correct shoulder buttons since that requires two swaps.

Yeah, this controller is a huge bummer as long as the app remains so limited. I mean, given how few buttons you can currently remap in the app, it kind of seems pointless to have a button dedicated to switching between four button mapping profiles on the controller. There's an older Fighting Commander available for PC and Xbox One, but HORI for some reason sees fit to make small alterations to each version of the controller between platforms to limit usability. For example, the PlayStation 3/4 version of the Fighting Commander allowed you to make the d-pad mimic either analog stick, while the Xbox version only allowed you to mimic the left stick. However, the Xbox version allowed you to do full button remapping, while the PlayStation version only allowed you to toggle between presets. It's really strange. What really bugs me about the Octa is that it's so dependent on an app that's currently not all that great, and we'll be completely out of luck if the app becomes unavailable (since there's no way to install it with a standalone Win32 installer).

I got this controller for PC and switch fighting games (using a magic ns adapter for switch), it's been working pretty flawlessly for the ones I've tried (blazblue, under night in-birth, skullgirls, dbfz). I love the microswitches on the face buttons, and the layout makes sense for fighting games (and basically every fighting game under the sun is fully rebindable anyway). Only thing is I prefer + shaped dpads over disc ones, but as far as disc dpads go it's a good one.
