A very useful video. I've spent a lot of time researching Tongkat Ali (TA) with a view to using it myself and there seem to be a number of studies (some more comprehensive than others) and a lot of anecdotal evidence from users, suggesting that TA does increase testosterone in humans. What surprises me is that few seem to be discussing or considering the potential effects on other important sex hormones - it was great to see some consideration of this in this video. By way of individual example...I'm a 41 year old male that has been very focussed on strength training for the last 12-18 months. For interest, I got a comprehensive blood test which revealed that my testosterone levels were towards the bottom end of the normal range (albeit I wouldn't say I'm symptomatic of low T), but my estradiol (estrogen) levels were at the top of the high range, much like in this video. So my levels in isolation are not clinically abnormal, but there is an imbalance in the testosterone/estradiol ratio. My understanding is that this is often seen in aging males (and particularly in parents of young children - the theory being that the parent needs to nurture, not reproduce, so T levels naturally drop) and without intervention, could well continue in that direction (increasingly low testosterone and increasingly high estradiol). The one clinical study I'm aware of that has been done on TA in humans (young, healthy males in their 20s) that measured testosterone, but also measured estradiol, showed that both testosterone and estradiol increased. The experience in this excellent video supports that outcome. In the clinical study, testosterone increased by an average of 16-18%, estradiol by around 30%. Those focussed solely on T levels might say "this is great" (and feel great for it), but....for men with existing high levels of estradiol, such an increase could elevate them to dangerously high levels and substantially increase the risk of prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc. (there is a very clear established link between these conditions and high levels of estradiol). This is a significant consideration for a lot of men that undergo TRT - if you increase the amount of testosterone, you inherently increase the natural process of testosterone to estradiol conversion (by the aromatase enzyme). Estradiol levels spike and some TRT patients have to be given aromatase inhibitors to ensure their levels do not put them at increased risk of cancer and other diseases that result from excessive estradiol. The only study I'm aware of that suggested Tongkat Ali reduced estradiol (supposedly by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme) was done in a cell culture (in-vitro) in the leydig cells of rats - so totally isolated from the wider endocrine system and not in humans. I mention this because a lot of people online seem to have latched on to the potential for TA to act an aromatase inhibitor as a way to increase T levels without substantive evidence in humans (indeed this video counters that very notion, albeit acknowledging this is an individual case study). There are no doubt many benefits of using TA both in terms of health and performance (you only have to read the multitude of positive comments from TA users), but I would argue that considering the effect of TA on testosterone in isolation is not wise. There are obvious benefits to increasing testosterone (unbound/free), but if treatment with TA also increases estradiol levels (the mechanism for doing this is evidently not well understood), then such treatment would be potentially very risky for some men who may already have high levels of estradiol. I commend the author of this video for his regular blood tests and awareness of hormonal effects beyond testosterone. Anyone taking any of these supplements must be aware of their 'start-state' blood levels. It was my relatively high estradiol levels that prompted me to exercise caution and do more research before ingesting TA. The challenge of course is that most people experience relatively rapid benefits of using TA, but don't necessarily experience any potential negative downsides for some time. I'm not trying to discredit TA - everyone is different, and it will affect different people in different ways, but when some poor individual dies of prostate cancer at the age of 48, no-one is likely to link it back to their excessive estradiol levels following the use of supplements - the broader effects of any of these substances need to be well understood beforehand, so that people can make informed choices based on their individual circumstances (and routine blood work and analysis). I'd be really interested to hear of other people's experiences/blood work results in respect of Estradiol levels following TA use.

High estrogen doesn't cause prostate cancer. High DHT does. Do your research a little better. Men with high testosterone already have high estradiol levels. Both estrogen 2 and testosterone are cardiac health promoters and a biomarker for longevity. The culprit for a lot of illnesses is what we consume. The process junk creates a high biomarker for cancer called mda= Malondaldehyde. This breaks up DNA and consequently the mutated repair can cause cancer cells to form. This dampens our Superoxide dismutase activity which are zinc and copper base. This lack of activity allows ROS to rise causing lipids to oxidized and form plaque in the arteries. When ROS is too high cortisol rises forcing the conversion of your free T into DHT. Which is a inflammatory marker at this point. Further exacerbating prostate cancer. This causes testosterone to decline severely in American populations. The other source of "estrogen" issue is if your testosterone is clinically low while your estrogen is clinically high. Causing man boobs and infertility on top of plethora of issue which has been link to process dairy and seed oils. So long your testosterone is in good range your estrogen can be high. Also couples that live together have the male testosterone become lower than single males. If you look into insulin resistant that too has the same down stream and that happens when you consume too much process fats. If that was the case with estrogen causing prostate cancer. Then why does finasteride successfully reverse and prevents prostate cancer. Which is a DHT blocker. Context matter. That way we don't keep messing up.

I'm 51 and I've struggled all my life to gain muscle. The last 18 months I really concentrated on my nutrition and protein, and at one point was doing 6 days at the gym on a push-pull-legs split. I barely put on any muscle. I got lean like I always do, but my strength saw marginal improvements. Fast forward to the last 2 months on tongkat ali, and I am putting on more muscle all over my body than I have at any point in my life. My arms especially have grown to the point where I'm finding it hard to believe they are even mine. They look like all the other gym bros now. I've noticed it in so many other aspects of my life, for example wood chopping. It's easy now to split wood whereas I've always had a hard time. I'm looking forward to my next blood test to confirm what I already know; this stuff works. I'm on 3 weeks on/one off, but I'm going to move to 5/2 days. Find a good supply and stick to it!

Worth noting that temporary shedding is to be expected with any substantial hormone shifts in the human body (such as you saw in your free T and E2 levels). It doesn't necessarily indicate androgenic alopecia and there's no reason to suspect that Yongkat Ali is accelerating baldness (since it's not directly androgenic). Although having higher test levels does tend to accelerate balding, but it should be minimal in this range, is highly dependent on genetics, and is frankly the price you pay for sick gains :) Appreciate the video and I'm happy somebody actually used REAL BLOODWORK INSTEAD OF BROSCIENCE

For me when I have supraphysiological levels of test in my system my hair grows way faster and thicker as evident by my previous test cycle I’ve done. The body will try and balance it out with aromatisation/converting some to estrogen. The estrogen keeps nails, skin and hair healthy. My nails definitely grew faster than they ever did before. It’s when you start blocking estrogen that test starts causing side effects. But if you don’t block estrogen and estrogen is too high then the estrogen will cause worse side effects than test can. It’s okay to have high levels of estrogen if your test is also high and your blood pressure is fine. How each individual body converts testosterone differs. Some people a lot gets converted to dht, which causes better strength gains but hair loss, for others estrogen and some lucky people don’t even convert much of the test into anything at all

You might add something like DIM and actually lower the aromatase process lowering your estrogen while maintaining higher levels of free test. I take a supplement that has Tongkat 300mg daily but also DIM and Fenugreek and some other things mostly for mood. I know I am feeling better more energy and definitely higher libido. But I also started back skateboarding vert ramps at 49 years old, so some of that adrenaline and overcoming fear is gonna be responsible for some of the testosterone increase too.

Actually the recommendation is to take Tongkat Ali about 600mg and Fedogia Argrestis about the same 400-500 mg as well. It’s the combination of both that works the best. Research and tests have proven this. It’s seems taking this supplement is no different than taking Creatine 5mg daily There was no difference either doing a loading phase or not. And taking it long term did not affect anything. On a personal note I’ve been taking it for years with no side effects of anything! It has put on around 15 lbs in about 2 years. That’s my suggestion and success.

Doesn't the body naturally produce more estrogen in the presence of increased free testosterone thereby making that result somewhat expected? I started taking Tongkat last year and definitely feel the results as far as test and libido, no adverse reactions to report other than the effect does seem to taper when taking it daily week in week out. As you mentioned I'm not sure if this experience is due to tolerance developing or adjusting to a new baseline. I would definitely recommend this (anecdotally) for any man who feels like they may need a boost but feels too young to go down the TRT road just yet. I haven't had my bloodwork done before or after so this is all anecdotal but I am very athletic but am also 38 so have definitely noticed a bit of a decline in the qualities associated with higher test in the last year or so. Tongkat Ali has filled that gap for me quite nicely, affordably, and naturally.

Tongkat Ali with 200:1 ethanol-based extract ratio cannot compete with standardized hot water extraction method. At least from my experience as a herbalist, more consumers are switching to Tongkat Ali supplements with superior hot water extraction, which guarantees consistent bioactive compounds (i.e eurycomanone, eurypeptides, glycosaponin). It has higher safety limits which means you can use higher dosages over a longer period.

I am currently using clomid for my low test. I thought adding some Tongkat to the mix would only improve my hormone levels, especially free testosterone. During the short time I've been using it I have actually noticed the size of my testicles decreasing. That's right, they are smaller now than before I started the long jack. Because I messed with steroids many years ago they were already smaller than normal. This is why I am on clomid. But they feel even smaller when on long jack. Longjack may not be an issue if you're not on other meds, but use caution if you're taking clomid. I cannot understand the phenomenon behind shrinking of the testicles when this herb should be increasing their size and efficiency. Something about the clomid tongkat combo is not good. If anyone has any insights into this please let me know. It's impossible to research this issue. It simply doesn't come up anywhere that I look. All comments point towards an increase in testicle size/volume. Something is wrong with this picture....

I doubt Tonkat Ali is causing the hair loss directly. Rather, as your androgens increase (Testosterone, DHT, etc), then you may lose hair because DHT receptors on your head cause hair loss whereas DHT receptors on your face cause hair growth. This is largely dependent on your genetics, so this is why some muscular men are bald with thick beards, but other muscular men have no hair loss at all.

Interesting you say this. I have the exact same profile, with t on the low side but all other bloods in check aside from FSH. Have never managed a solid answer as to why, even from endos. Question - what dose on your on days did you take? The curve implies 700-800 if taking the 10% nootropics depot sup, which would be 7-8 pills a day? That seems off?

My anecdotal experience; it definitely raised my libido even at times it felt abit unmanageable lol but as for gym performance not too much to comment on, it strangely gave more heat resistance though (lasting longer in saunas, less hot when doing cardio) I was only consistent for 45 days though so I 90 day review from you would be great to see as I do feel there's potential promise!

My opinion, based on experience and research, all supplements are pebbles - the rocks are lifting the weights, eating right and recovering properly. It's what you can do to actually stay consistent with that long enough to see the results you want.

Fair point, that I don’t really disagree with, maybe just that also enough sun exposure for the vitamin d. You might also just be extra tolerant to supplements

@@ConnorCurtis for sure. Just any light exposure - because we for example barely get any sun in the UK. If you are specifically deficient in any minerals or vitamins, there will be a lot of value in supplementing.

I’ve been taking toungkat everyday for about 2.5 years in varying doses, most recently about 1000mg taken in the morning with food. I’m 24, and had been suffering from low T as a result of pro hormone use in my late teens. I initially started with about 200mg and noticed very obvious effects, libido, endurance and muscle mass being the biggest. Not to mention overall well being. Hair loss did occur quite rapidly with lots of thinning throughout. It seems to have stopped, but I’ve also improved overall health practices. I notice the hair loss is much worse when drinking alcohol. Overall, I still have a full head of hair, just not as obnoxiously thick as it used to be. Zero side effects thus far other than that. It’s been life changing for me honestly.

Can you come with a follow up video with strength test and more importantly bloodwork in a couple of weeks off it, even if its a short video since it might not get that much traction. It would be very helpful to see if you still have some of the benefits and at what level.
