I think you're gonna get that wildest dream, JJ. Thank you for being willing to model your path for others. Hearing how you owned painful self truths, moved through and beyond shame, and are working to choose different for yourself in the future is something that all of us who listened will be changed by in some degree that tilts the culture and the world toward greater peace. Thank you.

absolutely insane to sentence a child to 40 years. there is no way to recover from that. where i’m from the maximum sentence for a 15 year old is 1 year juvenile prison or 7 years in a psychiatric clinic if necessary.

@anuncolonizedmind6296 I understand what you're saying but that was the culture he grew up in. I am his aunt and when hurt, harm, and trauma surronds you as a means of existing or dying you see it as "normal survival tactics". He nor I didn't see the harm we caused as personal or permanent until it happens because the live we lived was not real or true life in the gang culture. Thank God that we were given an opportunity to get in touch with ourselves to see the true severity of our action and change our mindset were we are mentally available and free to go back to those communities to debunk those false narratives the gang culture teaches us

His story is so important to share. It's so easy to blame and quickly dismiss a convicted criminal's experiences prior to their act. While horrific and inexcusable, his story is representative of so many other men that struggled with the same societal pressures and expectations as him. Humanity is understanding, forgiving, and giving people another chance to take accountability. Thank you for sharing this story with the world, as it may help him heal and others that may feel alone through their own process with forgiving themselves.

how do you think justice should be served in such a case?
@blazefairchild465

20 years and then 20 years parol on a case by case basis. If they both had guns and it was gangs one died one didn’t. If they are 25 + life in prison a 25 year old is a man ,15;is a dumb kid. I hope this young man ,goes to schools and explains this about the music influences on him. I also hope he stays away from gangs and does the work to give to society. Works every day for a living instead of a quick money Idea. He has a second chance now.

@@blazefairchild465 well this seems feasible, as you say depending on the case and also a perspective on Prison, is it about rehabilitation, punishment or perhaps both there's also the Capitalist equation as Prisons make money, the more Prisoners the more money is made

Your perspective on the nuances of human behavior are so similar to mine. I often feel alone in the view, and I appreciate so much that it's one you carry as well. I don't think you're a monster. I think you were a kid who made a heinous decision you were always gonna make based on the environment you were raised in. You took responsibility and are trying to move forward and put good into the world and that is all you can do. I know I'm a stranger and my opinion doesn't matter, but I'm so glad you were able to find grace for yourself and move forward trying to be the best you you can be. That takes an unbelievable amount of strength.

Our stories couldn’t be more different but this spoke to me so much. I was taught as a child that who I was, was shameful. Everything I did was shameful because it came from me. I was taught this the way you’d teach a child colors, very intentional and direct. This lead me to a lifetime of self sabotage and deep deep self loathing. It’s like I was programmed to self destruct over and over and over again. All of this lead me to make bad choices and neglect myself which just increases the shame. Through this story here I feel like I have a bit of a road map in the uphill battle to rid myself of shame and be strong enough to consistently show up for myself. I’ll definitely be rewatching this. Thank you so much for sharing. 💜

You really feel how authentic and open JJ is, you can tell he must really have done so much work to accept and love himself to let himself even be vulnerable in the first place. Really moving and eye opening. I think this would really transform how a young man would see the world that perhaps is in a similar trap to what he was when he was younger. Really important stuff. xx

I think it would be good to make a movie. It could really help people understand how gang culuture affects young people. It can help people understand how things like this are possible. And hopefully lead to transformation of such cultures and surely save lives. It can help people see the heart of a person. Help them see beyond a label. Help others see a more full picture of what is going on in this country. And develop ways to shift things.
