I see it as an alternative to gastric surgeries for the people too mentally weak to lose fat. It prevents physical mutilation, that is all. And stop calling them fat loss medications, they are appetite-blunting medications, of which fat loss is the intended effect. However most people also lose a substantial amount of muscle as it doesn't meaningfully improve lifestyle or diet.

Maybe one for a follow-up James, but what is the best or most reliable way to tell what a good bodyweight is for you and to ensure when you're at/near it that it is for the right reasons i.e. you've not become skinny-fat? You may know you're overweight, but by how much? Some people may be storing more fat than they realise internally etc. Is something like a Dexa scan the most reliable way of getting the information?

Everything you've said, applied to me. Food was overpowering my brain. First shot of Ozempic caused me to, sign up for a gym, stop all thoughts about food and weirdly sent me into spiral of motivation. 1.5 years later, I am down 130lbs (starting weight 370, lowest 240), eat healthier by choice while still enjoying food, gym 5 days a week and have aspirations to become an amateur bodybuilder/powerlifter. If you caught me early last year none of these things would have even been attainable. I will shill Ozempic for the rest of my life, because it did in fact, save me. I will also add, my testosterone levels were low-normal at around 400, I got bloodwork done recently it I am now sitting at around 890s natural.

The last bit and the graph is actually a good point - ozempic shouldn't be the cure-all use everyday stuff, just when you feel like you're gaining again, use it pre-emptively to get back to "normal" weight + you consume less food + you get (probably) more mindful about how good it feels not to be fat and MIGHT start exercising or doing some other type of activity. In reality probs most will just abuse the drug... but hey, if it helps an odd thousand get into better shape and way of life, it's worth it
@ondrej1893
8 күн бұрын
Actually the weight cycling wouldn't be ideal, you are better off taking it "forever". As long as it's cheap in the future and maybe in pill form, that wouldn't be a problem. The way the meds work is - from data (STEP 1 and STEP 3) - if you just take Wegovy and do jack shit pretty much, you lose 16% bodyweight on Wegovy. If you take Wegovy and undergo intensive behavioral programme of diet and exercise (very good professional programme), you start losing weight faster, you lose more weight temporarily, but it comes back and at the end of 40 weeks you lose 17% bodyweight and trending towards the 16%. Basically the extra effort beyond the effect of the med works like any diet - it doesn't. Literally the entire fat loss result is from the med altering your long term appetite. One thing I'd recommend is lifting, to alter the muscle:fat ratio of your body composition.

Even if regular doctors insist on lifestyle accompanying the meds in PR messaging - I suspect part of it is they want to keep the drug for those in need, part of it old bias dying hard - the studies really show that you just take it and depending on drug effectiveness in general and for you specifically, you land on your new weight plateau where you stay, so far it seems "forever". The extra lifestyle effort, although good for health (esp. the exercise part), doesn't really add any long term weight loss, as it is basically adding a drug-free diet on top, which doesn't generally work and you gain the weight back. (As you did before, without meds, which is why you even went the meds route) Lifting seems key as you will be losing some serious weight and want good muscle:fat lost ratio. So lifting pus meds might be the ultimate recipe, and along the way you will "automatically" also make better food choices.

If someone is overweight it is highly likely they eat food that is very low in nutrition but they remain just about able to get by nutrition wise on volume alone from their low nutrient foods. Obviously they are eating too much food and this drug will cause them to eat less... of what they already eat. I don't see how it will help change WAHT people eat. I think the unintended consequence of this drug (if not used exclusively with the supervision of a dietitian) will be people forming the same conditions that malnutrition causes in starving people. But at a "health weight". Imagine a sudden increase in cataracts, organ failure and the worst of all SKINNY FAT PEOPLE EVERYWHERE all among people who are supposedly now at a "more healthy weight". I would have thought from the fitness industry this would be more obvious, especially given your comment on BMI suggesting you are obese... I don't see this ending well as people will treat it as a miracle drug rather than using it as an aid to help them adjust to a healthy diet. The drug itself is not bad, as with most drugs, it's the way it is used that can be bad.

I'm well into my 40s, family man, senior role but I have to make sacrifices sometimes, that either means getting up very early or accepting that I won't do some things that I want to in life. The peptides/drugs/supplements work, the research and the results have proven that. I think my point is that some people, perhaps edge cases, seek the magic bullet rather than the lifestyle. Maybe I'm just skewed in my perspective. 👍

I have a gym, on average sit around 110kg with my last scan putting me a 62kg of muscle mass. My wife after 2 kids wanted to try semaglutide as the weight loss has been a big struggle. Due to her anxiety about taking things, ive been a guinea pig for her and whats another needle a week right. So I've been taking it now for about 3 and a half weeks and honestly i feel great, still prioritising protein and training consistently as i have done for 15 years. As of this morning im 98kg which is the lightest ive been since about 2021. Im a fan, its a great tool. However the embarrassment of not finishing food when im out has been hard.

So you've dropped 12kg in 3.5 weeks or have I read that wrong? Seems hard to fathom more than 1kg of fat being lost a week

@anynamewilldookay you're correct. Honestly, watch James's video again. He lost 4kg in a fortnight. It's full on. Keep in mind ontop of this I'm weight training 4 days a week and running 2 days. Probably helps. But you could imagine the benefits of somebody who's sedentary.

Good content, however over- simplifying the issue. It’s not really about just losing body weight or fat. It’s about nutritional deficits. Being slim doesn’t make you healthy. Last resort option fair enough. But truth is: ‘your health WILL NEVER be found in a pill’ .. end of.
@aimeelinekar3902

You are again lovely, handsome, and not entirely correct. It is, depressingly, entirely possible to eat healthy food and exercise, but not be able to maintain a deficit (or calorie equilibrium for a healthy weight). The ‘plebs’ are often trying as hard as we feasibly can, around the restrictions of our jobs, health, kids, time and finances, but it’s not enough. We’d be even more unhealthy if we weren’t exercising and if the (mathematically quite obviously) excess calories we were eating were coming from junk rather than healthy food in excess due to our appetites - but we’re not healthy enough with the interventions that are feasible in the long term, either. Please don’t propagate the myth that we’ve given up. It’s worse than that - we’re really trying, but it’s insufficient. I took saxenda, a weaker GLP1, for about a year and had tremendous results. I didn’t have to adopt a radical new diet or exercise plan - in fact, I was able to reduce the exercise a bit, as I had better control over hunger. Sadly I had to come off it for other reasons, and now I have the pleasure of hitting the bike and the pool daily but have gradually gone back up to my old set point. Can’t wait to start again.

Ozempic(the one prescribed for diabetics, but is the exact same medication as the fat loss one) has been on the market for almost 7 years (since December 2017). 7 years going strong with no long term downsides.

I am currently 119kg. I dropped to 100kg while doing a carnivore diet for a while until I stopped and put it all back on. This made me realise that I have an addiction to food which is only helped by feeling satiated for long periods. This led me to look into Wegovy and Ozempic. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to afford them and I don't think Ozempic is available on the NHS so I'll be going back to carnivore. The only downside is that I hate eating meat all of the time 😂 hopefully these things become more accessible in the future as good addiction is just as bad as alcohol/drugs.

@@ecwfanaticdude, if you hate it you're not going to sustain it. Every single diet on the planet works if the calories in are less than the calories out. Your diet could consist of Mars Bars and you'd lose weight just so long as you're burning more calories than you're taking in. I'm sure you're aware of this. The best way is to find a way to cut out all those small things like swapping out something higher calorie for lower calorie. Will I eat that entire bag of crisps? No I'll have a whatever it is you don't absolutely hate but cuts out like half the calories or more. And you do that for as much as you can think of or bare realistically. I also have to say this "oh I'm addicted" thing is bollocks. It's just laziness and apathy. I'm not saying there aren't addictive things out there, of course there are. But the reason some people do and some people don't isn't "oh I'm an addict", it's f that I'm not sufficiently motivated enough to not do that so f it. Then they use it as an excuse. I've been there, in a massive way!

I’ve used Ozempic for a while and it really keeps your appetite low and those cravings at bay. However they don’t vanish miraculously and with a lower appetite one might want to eat only small amounts of crap instead of well balanced meal. It’s very important to change the diet: you can’t eat a lot of meat and low-fiber crap since your gut slows down. You have to add fiber and veggies to your diet.
