Another great video, thanks Amy. Love that you said you didn’t know it was going to work at the beginning. It’s reassuring to know that an experienced artist feels that insecurity when trying something new.

I had some charcoal powder, and it was everywhere when it got here. The stuff turned out to be a huge, expensive pain in the romp. I tossed it in the garbage. I have used Krylon Workable Fixitive for years! It's awesome! Your wolf turned out awesome!

Great job. A little tip I learned in a class . Break your willow charcoal and use it on its side to get coverage over a large area quickly. The blend it with piece of cheese cloth to even it out. You have inspired me to get some more charcoal supplies. Enjoying your channel. Hope your health issues get worked out soon.

I've given some thought to trying pastels on canvas. I think I would use a canvas board and I would, for sure, coat it with clear gesso. Sennelier fixative does not seem to darken the pastels as much, if at all. I look forward to any of your experiments. The charcoal on canvas is a huge success.

Go for it! It sounds awesome! Although I do have the sennelier soft pastel fixative and it does darken some. But not as bad as some of the others. It's my favorite for sketchbooks but still I don't like it on my full pieces. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!

Wanted to let you know I was watching Lachri last week, she uses a fixative called Spectra Fix Degas spray, does not change color. She puts it in a fine mist sprayer, said bottle it comes in leaves droplets. The video was pastel, lady bug on mushroom.

I have it and unfortunately it does change the color. I have a video up here some where on my channel where I show the change of color with it. it's not as noticeable as some sprays, but it's still noticeable. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I think you did a great job! Spectra Fix fixative doesn’t darken the color on pastel paintings as per my experience. You have to spray it in a fine mist so I usually transfer it to a fine mist bottle. Maybe some paint brushes for charcoal from either Creative Mark or Trekell would be fun. I have them and for certain parts of the artwork it makes it easier. Very good video ❤

Ill bet a mask can be a game changer for charcoal. I was working in it about 6 years ago or so and the dust kept making me sneeze. One or two of them came without warning and there went a days worth of work - scattered into the air! Now I laugh but then it was traumatic! It sounds like your experience has been so much better than mine, even with a leaky charcoal powder jar. That is really easy to make, btw....take a stick of willow or whatever charcoal you want and run it back and forth on sand paper. Before I would begin, I would take a piece of printer paper and fold it in half and that is where I would collect the dust. It's super easy to pour into a small container that way. Love the wolf, btw!! I had no clue anyone used canvas but it makes sense because you do need a little bit of tooth.
