We do care about your dance classes!! Please keep updating. I've actually been trying to do a minimum of 100 pages a day lately just to get myself back into the swing after months of very little reading and it really does help so much! And I feel so accomplished haha but I really feel you on the temptation of Love Island! So addicting!
@katsfieldnotes

Omgosh I love that you've been doing that naturally! I find it really does help! And its sort of manageable too. Reading is one of the easier habits to slip back into and having this little goal helps give that last nudge! And Love Island is straight up dangerous. Like how am I suddenly 37 episodes deep???

Omg what a cozy vlog!!! Lol in the moma shots i actually was like “oh it was a low vol day” bc girl on the rainy day i went it was like we were sardines 😭 But this method is how i get in my volume - each sitting i aim for 50pg but bc im kinda ocd i like an even 60pg and i try to get in 2 sittings a day for most days and that’s like half a book. Plus the audiobooks i read while doing tasks! I look at the pg count of each book, get a sense of the pace, and figure how many days a book will take me as soon as i start it, and try to work it around my timing/sched.
@katsfieldnotes

Hahahhah its ALWAYS packed but I figured Id try a random week since I never get to do that, but that was a wash too! I can only imagine on a rainy day 😭 And thats so fascinating! You've been doing this naturally all along! The 50 pages in two sittings is so ideal too. And audiobooks are such a mood thing for me, I love that you consistently read books on audio. That definitely helps too!

@@katsfieldnotes I’m fairly certain within the first 1-2pg I’ll know how I’ll feel about the book, but giving it 60pg in one sitting will def make me feel like im giving it my full attn/better understanding of it

Firstly, you look stunning in the green with gold earring combo, wow. Secondly, Murdoch is wild and I always feel so profoundly moved by her writing but also confused for a long time,, usually about the purpose of certain characters over others, but clearly there is something to emotional understanding that gives strength to who we are as readers, right? Murdoch does so much with her work, so I would love to see what you think of another of her books!

I also want to know more about your dance classes! I was very interested in your last video when you’ve mentioned it! Do you have a random dance partner or how does this work? Dancing with a random guy sounds intimidating af to me because I’m an introverted and shy person but I looooove dance so much. I can get sucked for hours on instagram just watching dance videos lol. And I love dancing around my apartment a lot. I’m a 30 year old single woman but it honestly brings me so much joy. I truly feel like a loser sometimes :D. But please share more about your life besides your reading life (only if you feel comfortable of course) but I really enjoy these vlog style videos! The 100 pages sounds too intimidating to me hahah I couldn’t do it I think... And you cracked me up at 24:37 min hahaha I LOVE YOU!! Also I've started today with „Whereabouts“ and giiiiiiiiiirl I love it so much already!!!!

Also I want to say it's kinda relieving hearing you say that you had a bad mental health day because I've been having them a lot recently and it does help to hear that we all are in this together I guess.. But your videos and good books are a great medicine! Thank you for sharing ❤I appreciate it a lot!

I sooooo look forward to and love these vlogs Kat! I’ll honestly listen to you talk about anything. I’ve been trying to get back to reading more consistently as opposed to devouring a book in a day (recently did that with “We Do What We Do In The Dark” by Michelle Hart) then finding it difficult to continue that kind of momentum, so I’ll definitely have to try setting small reading goals like you’ve done here. I’ve been hesitant to jump on the Yellowface train but I just might have to pick it up. Also can’t wait to get into Roman Stories when it releases!

Aww this means so much to me, thank you for that sweet sentiment! ☺️ And okay, but I feel like that Hart book is SO HARD to slow down around! I also consumed it in like two sittings when I read it because I couldn't get enough! But I totally relate with you on the post-read dip. I cant say enough good things about the mini-reading goal. If you do end up doing it, let me know how it goes! Hahaha its a RIDE! It moves so quickly and kept me at the edge of my dang seat! And Lahiri is always so so wonderful. Have you read any others by her? Thank you again for the sweet comment ☺️

@@katsfieldnotes You're so welcome😊! She definitely is -- I've read The Lowland, The Namesake, Interpreter of Maladies, Unaccustomed Earth and Whereabouts. I still have to read her essay collections so I think I'll probably get into those while I wait for Roman Stories.

our first Murdoch was a W!LD RIDE! thanks for the buddy read bb! i've come to my conclusion with the machine, what is sacred, what is profane: love is sacred and profane. the ways in which we withhold or act on it. in both acts, there's an inertia, one that drives ugliness and one that drives beauty. but when that inertia is set in motion, when it takes over people and moments, there's no way of stopping. i'm reminded of that one line in CMBYN: "is it better to speak or to die?" and whichever way we move, there's no halting, there are only consequences or pleasures. from the title itself, derived from both the painting by Titan and thought by socialist Durkheim, Murdoch modernizes the two with her contemporary thought on the idea of something mechanical. Durkheim states: "religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden." also in Durkheim's theory, the sacred represents the interests of the group, especially unity, which were embodied in sacred group symbols, or totems. the profane, however, involves mundane individual concerns. Durkheim explicitly stated that the sacred-profane dichotomy is not equivalent to good-evil, as the sacred could be either good or evil, and the profane could be either as well. spinning the psychology from the painting's perspective, the clothed figure being "sacred love", and the nude one "profane love," with Durkheim's thoughts, there is neither good nor evil but complex inner-workings meddling past with present to create stronghold inertia in how we play out our future, our decisions, what drives us through the cast of characters and their individual concerns. tl:dr -- people are complex! and love is even more complex! with all our different tallies in traumas, how do we keep on going and try loving one another? it's a machine because it keeps on going. it must. because that's all it knows. thanks for coming to my ted talk

Oh I love this! Companion piece to the book by Nathan, coming in clutchhhh. I think the more I thought about it too, the more Ive settled on the love machine being the existence of the good with bad, or bad with good. Theres exploited and exploiter, dynamics of control and power, loved and unloved, harmed and (strong word but) perpetraitor of harm. They kind of have to exist alongside one another, all these cogs. And so what you say about sacred and profane not being good/evil really resonates! humans are hella complex! how do we keep on keeping on! Loved reading this one with you! 🤍🤍🤍

Ahh that's so great! So glad you've found a style of dance you love! I did a short musical theatre dance class at the start of the year. It was a total hoot! My friend and I also tried a salsa class a few years ago. This guy came straight over and asked us if we were together or wanting to hook up with someone (ERM NEITHER) and it totally put us off wanting to dance with him. So we started doing our own routines at home using youtube and our imagination! Haha! @@katsfieldnotes
